Chatting in linkshells with this app is a must.
will it just be a data pull read only or will we be able to interact with the game i.e. buy stuff out of the AH, talk in LS, invite new people to the ls, craft etc.
I think they should only make it possible to do interaction if you log out in your residence. Then the content could be like a small room 2d that lets you do the same mini games in the current game on a hand held like crafting provided your mats are in your inventory already, or you switch over to the AH app and buy some more. God that would be awsome. I might actually not hate crafting if i could do it on the bus, at work, at a wedding mahaha.
pocket-craft is the holy grail! You would win so many people over from other MMO's if you had something like this. "Did you know you can play final fantasy 14 on your cell phone?" BOOHYAHH 100,000 subscriptions.
I completely disagree. It is possible to create an APP to see LS chat, LS players online, exp activity, party activity. Even talking with your LS "TOS depending".
These are all features I'm working on!
A couple of suggestions, for the future FFXIV app:
- LS chat: Allow the FFXIV app to be integrated into the chat system, so when you log on you choose a character, after that you will be inserted into your character's LS chat channels, I would love to annoy my LS with the random things I am doing :P
- Authenticator: Add an authenticator to the app to allow you to use it instaid of a security token, other MMOs do it so there should be no problems, also you can even reuse the algorithm from security tokens, just need to run an algorithm that uses the IMEI of a phone rather than the model number of a security token, then it will be unique to each device.
- Make an app for all smartphones: Too many apps are either only on one smartphone, e.g some apps are only on Iphone, whereas others are only on android. It would help the whole community if the app was on iPhone, Android, Windows Phone and Blackberry, there is no reason to make it exclusive to one type of smartphone.
- Keep it updated: I have seen alot of apps that take awhile to get updated to new APIs (still having some problems running apps on android 4.0.3 (Love my custom firmwares)).
- Keep it reasonably priced: Please Please Please don't over price the app. It would be best to keep it free if possible, but if it isn't possible please take alot of time working out how much people will pay (better yet ask the community a little close to the date)
- Allow Apps2sd: This works atleast with android possibly other smartphones, too many app devs overlook apps2sd, but it is one of the most important features especially if people have phones with low memory.
- Allow us to use the market wards: With the market ward search and retainers, allow us to search the wards, buy just as the buy from search interface works, including the tax if you see fit, also allow us to manage retainers bazzar, possibly even exchange items using the app if possible.
- Allow us to manage our SE account: This would allow us to, for example, add crysta, change payment options, activate a service account, or cancel our service account if for some reason we couldnt get access to our PCs
- Allow us to craft from a phone: this could be the same as FFXIV crafting, would be best not to have a complete animation, just icons to show how the craft is going, so a little orb, the colour it would be ingame, and a way to show sparking and unstable elements, nothing too fancy or it will be a battery drain.
Ok that was more than a couple, but oh well. These will make the app awesome and a must have for anyone who owns a smartphone and plays FFXIV, I know it would be alot of work, so feel free to roll them out as updates, but the authenticator and LS chat are what I would see as a priority.
Brilliant news this will be happening though :)
At least give us a secondary security token app SE! Please?
One of the things I would like on my phone is the ability to SEE my character. Not sure if that's covered in the Character Info. I want to pose (sit/stand/walk/attack) with it being animated. Animated backgrounds and home city backgrounds for it would be awesome. Can even have backgrounds that are only available seasonal so there is always something different to show off.
I'd love a chat and character viewer for my tablet.
If the mobile app amounts to merely "information" as the community rep says, I for one will be extremely disappointed.
also you can see the fourms very nice on mobile phones can you also add that?
originally it was mentioned that we'd be able to manage retainers from an app. looking at 'information' about our characters is something that can be done on xivpads, the lodestone and other sites already from a browser.
No Miqo'te Hot Pics of the week feature? :(
Definitely need linkshell chat support. Managing retainers bazaars would just make me feel like Michael Douglas in Wall Street- but I wouldn't complain :p
I'd personally like to move some in game widgets to a smartphone/tablet.
I appreciate the functions of the widgets but I hate having so many taking up screen space, feels like you have to play the game looking through a window.
Idk if a wii u version of ff14 has been given consideration but it would have a touch screen they could put the command bar on (make it so much more fun to use). They could apply that same concept to a smartphone/tablet. Having all 3 bars displayed at once and being able to touch them to use them would be a sweet alternative input method.
Authenticator/Security Token would be the best. Please include that in the app!
Good ideas:
- Security Token
- Tie to in game chat
- Tie to market wards search (and buy)
- Tie to retainers, allow listing items already on retainer
- Tie to LS calendar, allow events to be scheduled, signed up for etc.
In game chat was enabled through an outside site for FFXI already the ability to do this is already partially coded for FFXIV, you need to be logged in game for the service to work but I've seen people talk from a PC through a website to ppl in game in FFXIV. It was buggy as hell but if an outsider can get it to work even partially I'm sure SE can enable this feature.
I like the idea of this, and Being able to manage your Retainer from the phone. (even though i don't have a smart phone)
FFXiVPortal for IPhone is best app I know of. Add bazaar item, server chat, world status.
What about smartphone to in-game LS chat capabilities? Many games including EQ2 and World of Warcraft have the ability to participate in guild chat from outside the game with external PC and smartphone apps. Obviously it's a little trickier with the ability to be in multiple LSes and needing to equip/unequip pearls, but its a very well received feature and seems like it would be easier to think of during 2.0 development than trying to hack it in later.
It wouldnt be that hard, they just add an option to log on as a character, it would then show you a list of linkshells, or work just like the chatlog and add you to the chat channels of all linkshells, and a setting to change which one is active, just like it does ingame.
I was just talking about this to friends today, and how i hope SE will have the foresight to make a lot of the game accessable to smart phone and tablet apps. Yoshi has already voiced his hopes for apps after 2.0 but i really hope that we get something more than AH/retainer access.
A few of my ideas are: gathering apps, crafting app, mini games(ie app user card games or parly)
Gathering will not work, because you need to go to nodes to gather. To do this they will effectively need to port the whole game to a smartphone, which will be verging on impossible, or they could ofcourse break gathering so you can do it anywhere, so no one gathers ingame they just do it on thier phone because most of gathering is running to nodes.
It would require that they have a very low graphic client that mimics what you do in game where you run your 'character' around a zone built for mobiles by yourself unless you are using a wifi connection. I'd be very curious the amount of data having all the people moving around would hit in a month of heavy usage.
Btw these are the words, from Yoshida himself:
From interview: http://pc.rpgsite.net/interviews/327...-naoki-yoshidaQuote:
RPGSite: Have you considered bringing FINAL FANTASY XIV to the PlayStation Vita?
Yoshida: Yes, currently this is all post-2.0, but because we’re doing a reconstruction of our server system, in those plans, we’re going to make sure that the servers can be accessed by outside devices such as smart phones. Not just the Vita, but also smart phones, so that kind of access will be allowed. What that will open the door to is things like applications that people can used to check their inventory, or check the market and purchase things from the auctions. Those are the things we are laying for in our server foundation, so we can be ready to implement those after 2.0.
For example, beyond that, maybe an application that lets you raise your chocobo, and then transfer it back into the game.
It wouldnt be that simple, a phone would have huge problems, you would only beable to see about 6 character models most even low at extremely low resolution, even the size of the zones could cause huge problems, it would require atleast 1 year just to make it possible to gather, and it would be completly impossible on a low end smart phone (my android phone lags on alot of angry birds levels) high end ones like the galaxy s2 and iPhone 4s may beable to run a low resolution client, but it will take along time to make and really wouldnt be worth it.
I don't think gathering would work either.. But crafting is a different matter entirely.
even if it simply gave us the in game crafting interface with a small indicator to show synth colour/stability, this would give us an option to get a bit of crafting in when we are out and about. Because really... crafting isn't the most engaging content available right now T_T
Since I have Xperia Play, maybe usefull FF14 on android platform would be great.
And even better, if one can play the entire FF14 on cloud gaming platform like OnLive services. :D
I would really like to see a app for FFXIV. I know the developers are hard at work on ARR, but after launch this would be a great opportunity for more SE revenue. And like many have already said there could be lots of possibilities for things for SE to provide via an app.
I want an app for my Android phone! An app to check the market trends! Have a flying moogle with a camera going through all the zones(like the FFxi live).
In game event calendar that can be viewed out of game on the website ect is a must. The calender should have the ability for you to create events invite people, have people in your guild be able to sign up.
I appreciate that.
Maybe SE should Consider also following Informations:
- Ingame Calendar ( i.e. Ferry Departure, Moon Phase )
- Timer for Instances
- Selling/AH? History ( So you could check if you sold something )
AND...
- Triple Triad - Mini Card Game !!!!!! ( This would make me buy it )
Would be also nice to have some sort of "Message System", i could use to type a quick message to a ls-mate or w/e. Since it would be Character-linked, if you can see friends and stuff, it shouldnt be hard to implement something like that.
Could be also have a "light" and a "premium" version of course.

Since this old thread got bumped, I’d like to let you know we are planning to have an app for smart phones that is linked to game data. For example, we are thinking about having a background created by Akihiko Yoshida and making the following information viewable:
Character information
Friend information
LS member information
Free company information
…perhaps in the future, something related to housing information and such as well.
Though we are not able to share any details on this just yet, if you have any feedback please let us know.
Count down timer to when Dalamud touches down.
Duuuuuude! you gots to give me the source for that app!
