I'm a seven-foot tall ex-basketball pro, Hindu guru, drag queen alien, but I choose to play as a Lalafell.
It really doesn't matter the character you choose to play. It's FF meaning you won't often play a character that is like you, but often very opposite, and escape from the real world.
Anyone who makes a stink about it, is lacking enough maturity to Role Play and play the game. If they are trying to hook up with girls or guys on the game, that is sad, sure some people develope real relationships, but typically it's a fantasy world that isn't based on real.
Mature players don't care.
Some players, myself included, might make jokes from time to time but nothing is meant by it.
Then there are a few people who do either have an aneurysm at the thought of stepping outside gender norms or treat MMOs like a virtual dating game.
For the first group, don't take it seriously cause they certainly don't. And for that second group, ignore them and just enjoy the game.
I think it's interesting to note that you clearly seem to associate masculinity with negative traits & behaviors.Quote:
In other games, like Mass Effect 3, I'm a complete and utter asshole to everyone, so I chose to play as a bloke. In Skyrim, I'm a hardarse who has a problem with authority (read: kills authority at any opportunity), so again I'm a male. In EVE Online, I'm a fair but firey industrialist - and I chose a female character for that.
We may need to bring you in for some psychoanalysis.
Doesn't bother me one bit. But if I say "she wanted to x" or "he doesn't seem to care" based on your character, please don't jump down my throat for not being psychic. Its getting old.
I know someone that played a female character in FFXI for 6 years before admitting they were male IRL. And they milked it for what it was worth too.
I just assume that everyone playing is male and if they correct me, then that's fine.
I want Male mithras to come out so I don't have to pretend I have boobs anymore :<
I'm pretty sure the only reason ppl believe I'm a girl is cause I'm always playing with my husband lol. But then there have been times when random ppl think I'm his duel box character >_<. Idk why not like I auto follow him 24/7 lol. Even when I would say something they thought I was him and I'm like "uh I'm his wife btw >.>" lol
And yea I can't help it when I see ppl unless I know you I always just refer to them as what sex their character is unless they correct me. But doesnt really matter to me if someone plays as w/e, I just prefer playing as a character that resembles me lol.
"Girls dont play video games"
Carve this phrase into your mind
And you should know, OP, that no one has a gender choice with miqo'te or Roegadyn yet. Even so, there are still those that prefer to play female characters. Just accept other's differences. It's not even that serious, or serious at all.
It depends on good/evil alignments.
Usually in any game where you can choose to be good or evil, I pick a male for the good guy, and a girl for the villain.
It's the same sorta situation when I choose between playing my Wizard Jinrya, or my Paladin Ryajin. Sorta role-play when it comes to choices.
Plus Monster Hunter girls have way cooler armor than guys.
In most games girls armor does look way cooler that guys, if you dont like the 'Bulky' apearance that they often give guys, even tho you dont get any more defense out of it. but, in FFXIV everyone looks pretty much the same. I would chose a girl character if I didnt guy armor appearance.
Tis one of the reasons i'm going to change to male miqo'te in 2.0 :).
I play female characters in a lot of games I play, simply because i'd rather look at a girls arse for 6 hours on a sunday, much more than a I would a male gladiator.
Plus I care about the character more if she's going to die.
For me it is normal to play in a (j)rpg game not only chars with the same gender as me. Be it online or offline.
Example: It didn't bother me to play as Lightning in FF XIII.
Another question: Why show up since 2002 in the mmorpg forums regularly the question about players playing chars from the other gender? My first thought was that someone necroed this thread ^^
While there is a big gap between the number of male and female players, I think it would be interesting to meet a girl playing a male character as their main. It's very rare, but it would be nice to see the opposite of a Manqo'te (A Wogadyn?). They're adding new genders to the single-gender races now, though, so it's even less likely. I wonder if anyone will main a female Roegadyn. I support this in the name of Adventurer Diversity.
Meh I just role as a man'qote for tha tail... dat tail. :3
I've had a couple... uhh awkward moments but they are usually over with 'i'm a dude dood' (or a 'rr' then i'm back in like 20 secs and they're like 'omg are you a guy?!' xD ) and we all have a good laugh and die a little inside...
I don't see very many people who care, and those who get mad over guys playing female characters, I view to be a**holes (self censored because SE doesn't like cursing).
In all my time in Sargatanas and Lindblum before that, I've only seen a whopping TWO people who harassed anyone about playing a female character. Most of the time it just seems like 'well duh' most of the female characters will be male, and no one cares. The biggest issue is knowing whether or not to call someone 'him' or 'her', lol.
PS. And I'm a female, but I have a male alt.
It can be a little confusing/misleading at first until you're actually certain lol, but otherwise who cares?
I think it only really bothers all the sad sacks who are looking to hit on someone in an online game... *sigh*
I'm reminded of my own coming crisis with 2.0 - I chose a Miqo'te because while I loved my Elvaan in XI, I always wanted to be a Mithra - but no males (yah I'm a guy btw). But, now that the opportunity is finally coming up, it's not as simple as I thought.
I kinda like my cute little kitty! Gotten attached to her after playing for so long (plus I got my certificate that game with my CE) so it'd be a little sad to change her - especially with the tail and bust sliders being added!
But then again, the Male's are really cool and I'm one of those people who does like to play a character that reflects myself. Total rock & a hard place :(
I play a kitty but then my name doesn't really hide the fact that I'm a dude hehe, doesn't bother me in the slightest, though people hiding behind female names as well is a little hm xD
I played as a Mithra in FFXI because I wanted to focus on being a Thief, and its stats lended itself to that end. Here, I picked a Highlander because he looks badass. My fiancee also used to think it was weird that I had a female, but it all depends on the role, IMO.
I play as female characters mostly because they look "cooler". The male models in most games are just terrible.
I play the character I have on here for two reasons. First of all, I had a Mithra in FFXI and I just liked her. So this character is basically an homage to my Ash cat, even down to her last name. Secondly, I think she looks nice. And if I'm going to have to look at her for 99% of game play, I may as well like looking at her. Granted, I've talked to a grand total of 0 people since I started playing again the other day, but I don't see why it even matters. We're all here to play a game, not join the love connection. If you can't wrap your brain around someone liking their character and not feeling ashamed that it is male or female and they themselves are the opposite, then don't over think it. If they are good people, you enjoying partying with them or whatever, let it go. Just enjoy yourself, that's all this place is for anyway.
I just play male characters, cause I myself am a male. XD
But are you also a midget? If we want to go on with this 'must be like your character' crap, only a handful of people have any business playing lalafel, absolutely no one should be playing miqo'te, char skin color must match yours, etc etc insert more bs here.
Or we can all just let it go....
I like using emotes and acting silly most the time and a female character fits the bill better than a male character, though I am considering switching to a male miqo'te when 2.0 comes out if they offer us a redo on our character creation.
I did the same, i played a male char on XI because the female chars had pigfaces aside from Mithra and i knew the old catgirl fetish would be abudant so i just picked the first race in the character creation.
Now i play as a miqote because they look more human than cats in comparison to XI's mithras (nose, monkey tail).
And so on.
I'll probably change to either a lala female or maybe elezen female(if i can find a face that doesn't suck) in 2.0 though.
it's why I play a male character... I have enough of a barbie complex to begin with I want to see this gay smexy male butt wiggle while I make him run around (btw when 2.0 comes out I have a cancelled female elezen just can't afford her right now with fmla) beating things with that long hard lance of his... *shivers with pleasure* btw I'm a woman playing a male character rofl and people on here call me bro and shit like that so I don't care
I play the gender that fits the character concept I've made. Right now, that's one boy, and two girls; a duelist, a runaway twin, and an adventurer. I've boy concepts besides Forra that I'd like to play, but just right now there are no disciplines that really fit them - like Pendant, who I'd like to see wielding a rifle, or Arin who'd likely work with pistols or technology of some sort. Same for one female concept I'm particularly fond of, although hopefully when dual-wielding turns up in some form..
Anyway, people that attack other players for choosing to play a character opposite their own gender (or any other trait), I'll never understand other than assuming it's a simple case of bigotry, or latching onto an easy target for bullying.
honestly it is stupid to attack another person for what they chose to play as a character. I know a lot of men who play mi'quote characters and I really don't care. It gives me justification when they ask me why I play male characters. Reason I play male characters is for the most part I'd rather be anonymous on here and not let people know what my real gender is so I can't take advantage of things or people nor do I want men to hit on me in the game (now after a while if I feel the need i'll let people know that I'm a woman, like I've done on here) and also I want something that's eye candy for me. Seeing bouncing jiggling breasts aren't the key to make me a happy player it's the fact that I can be what I want to be when i want to be it and be able to have fun that is the reason I play these games. Sometimes I will chose a female if I can make it nice but most of the time like in XI and on here I know I want to be a man in the games *shrugs* I'm just weird though
I'm 28....
No really! I am! D=
