No, i hope to never have a cash shop in my subscription based mmo's. I'm sure they would make a ton but i really dont want to see it happen. You would think with more money they could fund more updates to the game but that is not always the case. WoW is the king example of greed when it comes to to their cash shop. Millions of sales with updates once ever 6 months.
I just dont trust the cash shops once they are implemented. It adds nothing overall to the game itself to make it better. I would rather farm that bad ass mount and earn it rather than sending $25 to squeenix.
No thanks ///////////
Lol loved reading this thread up to here, its like yes, yes, yes, wait thats alot of contridictions, hmm
Im for the idea if they are properly priced & added as unsellable & unobtainable by other means but pose no purpose to push yourself further in the game ~ that includes no achivments for them!.
*peronaly i'd like to be able to buy seals because of lack of ways & the amount of time it takes to get them. but as i said thats my personal reasons why i think that, hopefuly they will fix it in 2.0 so i dont feel that way.
No thanks, please don't Activision our SE.
No please.
I would not mind as long as it just stuff for looks, pets and chocobo clothing.
No just no.
i say heck no unless theu had gill for use to buy it would make it difficult for rmt companies why would some one need to get gill from thier site when they can get it from se they can make it apper out of thin air
You start with 1-2 items in cash shops and then the game goes into F2P with a 50-100 items cash shops, NO THANKS!
I support cash shops for items like costumes, level up packs(for the more impatient players) and expansions alongside a hybrid F2P and subscription-based model. Naturally I'll be going subscription, but it could be a great extra source of revenue for Square-Enix, who in turn could produce better content and give more support to FFXIV long-term if done correctly.
I'm sure SE is paying careful attention to what's going on with games like Guild Wars 2, The Old Republic, and TERA.
This is a valid concern, but think of it this way: How many incompetent, intolerable louts have you met at high-level areas or events that played, not bought, their way through everything and are still incompetent and intolerable? You'd still avoid those players, right? You wouldn't play with these guys either. What's the difference between that and another douchy player buying his way through stuff?
Nobody loses in either scenario, but SE gains something in the latter. As long as people can get all the same abilities and whatnot through the natural course of the game(I.E. never introduce buy-only abilities), then I don't see too big of an issue.
this thread has given me the giggles about the opinion of the "P2P Onry".
I support a P2P with CASH SHOP! :D :D :D
No thanks! This is not a crappy free to play game. :P
Rather than installing the cash shop button right in the UI, I had idea of more... subtle approaches.
The game may go P2P to encourage new player (admit it, F2P IS successful these days), but to fully enjoy the game, you need to take monthly subscription. Here the few things that I had in mind:
1. People who play for free will not get Resting bonus upon sleeping in their Inn Room.
2. A new shop called "Boutique" is installed in each cities in Eorzea. These shop will offer new & un-tradeable fashion items each week that is available to buy with crysta for free-player. But for people who subscribe, they can buy it with gil instead.
3. Remodelling feature is available to use for people who subscribe. What is remodelling feature, you ask? It is basically changing the appearance of your high lv equipment to any low lv equipment that you like. So you can have an AF armor with the appearance of Weathered Jacket if you wish....
That is several things that i had in mind. Might be adding more if I have finally attain my Warrior and Paladin job later on.
Any rant is welcome -w-/
i prefer subscription with the option of cash shop - making it Free to play will doom this game with more unwanted RMT
i dont see it ruining the game if its only for costumes and pets as long as it doesnt sell items that make players OP like STR%-VIT% cards buffs players for 30 days with extra exp
Do not want.....ever /end
Even Cash Shopping for Vanity Items would be bad not for the game itself, but for other people around that will see you where this shiny new red Cloak, and everyone else would want it. ( Yes Even fashion that isn't possible in the game to get, and only bought through a Cash Shop makes people jealous that some people may even leave the game cuz of it).
Keep everything in-game.. keep everything fair, You pay for a subscription for a reason, not to dull out more cash.
Only "Cash Shops" I don't mind ( Which aren't really cash shops to me) are Race change/World Transfers. Because they don't affect the game ( At all), Vanity items ( Visually) effect the game. Keep it fair and everyone will be happy ^.^.
problem with cash shops is small things will turn into bigger things when they see how much money there making off vanity items, then god like weapons will pop up in the store, then you start getting timed items that last a week then you need to buy again, you wanna pvp need to buy a arena ticket, oh you want red mage gotta buy it. they will nickel and dime you.
better with no cash shop.
Nope, i prefer an implicit force upon subscription. Just like how F2P games sucked our money with low probability gachas, but instead of it, we force free players to subscribe moar A_A
Need to work about that, tho ('~`; )
Actually, Cash shop is the main problem why RMT is common in F2P games. Why? Because people who don't have real-life money will invest their time in accumulating gold to buy cash shops. Also, several retards who cant grasp the concept of trading will likely sell cash shop items using their real life money for a freaking gil in a cyber world, thus, promotes the cycle that we knows as RMT.
I wouldn't want to see a cash shop in FFXIV. I have seen more and more subscription based games plugging in an item shop for cosmetics and other items, but the biggest issue I have with the process isn't tied to the fact that the game would be receiving more money. The issue is that the cosmetic items, that are usually offered in-game to some extent are cheapened when players can just buy that same item for $5, $10, or $15. This type of process diminishes the importance of the item in my eyes.
For example, when I first saw players riding around on their Goobbue I thought to myself, "Hey! That looks cool. I'll ask/learn how I go about getting that." If the answer was simply pay $10, even if I could also do a quest in-game to get it, I wouldn't be as impressed and would probably not get it.
I say we keep any cosmetic/pets/mounts/etc. as in-game items for events or achievements for various actions.
I still don't see what the negative review on it is >.> Its just it boosts revenue and it does not give people Pay to Win items then its fine... a cash shop that is purely cosmetic is not evil... seriously I don't see why people are against it o.O its not like all the items on it would be the coolest looking items in game... read up on how TSW implemented their cash shop it turned out pretty well... Its just something to boost a little revenue on the side... unless your the ones who think S-E shouldn't get a dime and that all the developers can starve...
I SUPPORT WELL FED GAME DEVELOPERS -sticks tongue out-
If anything, giving the devs and SE more ways to earn revenue through the game gives them more incentive to really support the game as much as possible. Offering a free-2-play alongside a subscription model also allows them to potentially gain even more of an audience.
Someone else mentioned the idea of F2P players having to pay real money on "boutiques" while subscription players can pay with gil? That sounds like a potentially decent solution.
I'm not saying SE doesn't deserve the well earned money, it's a great company. But I as a player would stray away from Cash Shops cause it's just not what I want to have involved in a Final Fantasy game. I'd rather donate more money to SE or have an option to give them more money so they can give us more items in-game than to buy outside of the game.
I've been a paying customer since release, and nothing would make me quit faster than a cash shop in FFXIV.
