That's for sure. It's been years since I took lessons for it back in highschool and while GIMP2 is similiar, it's not quite the same. It helps when you keep up regular use of your talents too I mean I can't remember the last time I actually drew something by hand, let alone scanned and edited it like today and it shows - hence the bajillion annotations XD.


I have to say as an artist I'm pretty impressed by some of the designs posted here.

I'm kinda embarrassed about the stats i put down hahaha.. +10% to all attributes ._. ( I figured powerful ring by us alone meant there was none like it and it was an accessory needed to weather the coming Umbral Era )

Images are quite detailed but as you already know it will be very small ingame and hard to see.

I really like the ideas in this thread. Also thanks for the compliments earlier. But you know how these competitions always go. There's all of us that finished slightly early, and literally minutes before deadline, the BIG GUNs come out to play and they end up steam rolling us regular folk.

Yeah I was looking for examples a week ago and came across people on Zbrush forums who already entered, some of those rings would be very hard to draw if it weren't for 3d rendering programs ><. But in any case, it is good to see so many people are applying their creative juices for this :D and I love the fact that a company such like Square Enix is allowing a chance to have an impact on their game, not too many companies really go for that route ( I could be mistaken, but so far that I have seen ).

Hmm the deadline that is listed on the entry page states:
Friday, August 10, 2012 (PDT) to Monday, September 3, 2012 11:59pm (PDT)

so technically about 20 hours until then.

I only had a few Copic markers so it didn't turn out as awesome as I imagined, but I feel like it kind of matches the official art style!

I also like the one from Gramul. Its an unique concept and really fits the lore.

Was hoping to see your Ring Siren, but i guess i have to wait for the Top10 to see it. XD

Well I doubt I'll make the top ten. I'm not the best artist by far. I sketched this out and scanned it and then colored/edited it in PS.

The concept was an amber ring, with a tiny leaf it it. Both the amber and the leaf from Yggdrasil, the tree of life. Stats were regen/refresh/regain+1 all basic stats+1.

Since we weren't allowed to add more text about the personal comment/caption to our entry I couldn't give it a good description, so I added a simple "blah blah" text lol ^^
I should have added one directly to the artwork as others did .... damn hahaha :D

This was the one I was working on, but I didn't finish it on time. I think I wanted these stats on it:

Aetherial Ring
Anima regen +1 (Basically, whenever you would regain anima you would get 1 more.)
Regen +1
Refresh +1

I was kinda of wanting to draw a ring that had the gemstone floating above the finger, but I just had to think a little realistic cause no crafter has the tools to have materials float in mid-air.

Its called Quarter's Reign for a reason. I see 2x chocobo's, CaitSith, and the Moogle which is the hidden image.
