Considering how classes and jobs work, Summoner will have access to all of the skills Arcanist does which means it will still have Carbuncle.

Books!
They read books!
Sorry I have to say this, if Arcanist uses books and goes on to summoner then how will my SCH ever happen!!!
Or if Arcanist is an enfeebler and goes on to summoner then how will RDM come about... think about it for a second.
But I would try SMN out.
BLM and WHM have both staff weapons (more or less) so whats the matter?..
WHM is a healer, blm a damage caster... well how a redmage could ever came out in FF11, eh? ;XD you know what i mean?Quote:

also redmages have melee attacks, which mages dont have. never the less, rdm was never a very powerful class if you ask me.. he was a mix between 3 different classes (BLM/WHM/Melee) so he was not very good in each profession except for refresh, of course.
personally im not sad about rdm's if they are not going to happen.

I am really afraid (when looking at the summoner artwork)
that we will be able to summon ifrit, garuda etc. like this:
Odin summoned FF11
which means... summon for just one attack and disappear. so carbuncle will be the ownly true pet for Summoner.
hopefully the translated presentation of today will clarify.
and for what is Fenrir and Siren Prime then? Prime Boss fights, no summon pets for the summoner?
I know, I know RDM has always had low level white and black magic, but making them an enfeebler in FFXI gave them something unique just a melee with low level white/black magic will not offer much unique in skills.
For SCH if I was thinking of a book weapon it would make a lot of choice for them to use it, what else could SCH use... hmm staves taken, clubs taken, books taken... and A4 ring binder? But eh lets not derail this thread even more, unless multiple jobs really will come from each class sometime.
Interesting enough. Books, huh? So I wonder if they're completely doing away with that odd staff idea, like the one Louisoux (the old man NPC) has.
Either way, I'm really liking this design. That coat is super awesome looking.
Personally kind of sad that Arcanist is a class shared by summoner job, just means that Arcanist is going to be a nerfed summoner who can use second wind.
I was hoping we would get really unique staves...atm I just can't relate a book weapon to my favorite job. Mystic was the one who used the book weapon in FFT iirc.
Also, the shoes look almost identical to dancer shoes lol :o
I am glad though the class/job is the way I hoped it would be..or so I think, Dot and Debuff ftw =D
Siren is a boss fight, already confirmed. Also, you linked Odin in FFXI and didn't explain what it does -- Odin can automatically kill everything in radius if your summoning magic skill is capped and pushed ahead appropriately or deals massive damage to bosses (since zen never worked on bosses in other FF games) -- That is exactly why you summon him for 1 attack and he's gone, the rest of your avatars are out eternally doing damage/debuffing/buffing excluding Voidwatch because some of the bosses automatically engages pets when they spawn.
You completely ignored that X and XI technically(bolded for emphasis) remains as the only FF games that your summons are out for more than one attack, since Odin and Alexander (Perfect Defense, basically negates all damage) are the only exception to XI's rules.
What an embarrassing looking job, who would want to play that?
Wait wait wait, if you go to the Arcanist guild, do all the NPCs not talk about the knowledge in books, etc etc.? I honestly may be wrong, but I feel like this happened lol.
that looks like a ponycorn with wings.

Here it is!
Was I the only one who got a , Yuna from dissidia, vibe off summoner?
There is precedent for black mage summoners [Rydia, Terra], and quite frankly that's the direction I would like for Summoners in FFXIV. The whole white mage summoner kick is old and stale.
I'm most concerned about the summons themselves though - if I'm just summoning a nebulous blob most of the time I'll be pretty disappointed.
Love the armor, would rather have a whip/staff than a book.
She has Troll in her name. Stop feeding her. >_>
Hmm, tanking? Im gonna assume that that is for personal tanking, so Arcanists dont get eaten when out solo? It would be wierd for them to be a main tank.
That's my guess. I'd also wager to say that the pets for SMN aren't as viable as Carbuncle at tanking.
I wonder what 2 class' abilities SMN will be limited to?
I suppose CON would make the most sense, but if it was also THM, it'd be the first Job to have access to all the elemental nukes and the widest range of spells. I'm not sure BLM's would be happy with that...
GLA would just make SMN the most soloable job, eliminating the need for having Arcanist.
MRD abilities do nothing for a mage class
LNC's abilities only help a melee, so no go there.
PGL is taken by BLM, and having both CON and PGL spells will also give it a wide range of healing, too wide? It's still a possibility.
ARC has emnity- abilities, and seems more likely.
Depending on what provides the most debuff and DoTs access, will depend on whether I play as Arcanist or Summoner. To tell you the truth, arcanist/summoner wasnt even on my radar (im usually melee only) til I read the part about DoTs and debuffs. So even if summoner has powerful avatars, if they dont have access to the most/best DoTs and debuffs, Ill likely ignore summoner and play as Arcanist.
I guess the biggest factor in all that is just how much are they changing class vs job functionality for 2.0?
I tell you guys what though... I sure am glad to see "Primal Essences" rather than a bunch of little elementals!
I really had no interest in playing Arcanist/Summoner until I read they use books as their weapons. Book casters rule. Reminds me of Leon from Star Ocean 2.
I think summoner should have only elementals and then have to combined them with other summoners to make an avatar.
Different combinations will make different things like a water garuda or an icy ifrit.
I think this will be better for the game because it will add more options for player customization.
These changes should also have their own equipment, AF, and relic weapons.
