....Since when did people care about racial bonuses in FFXI?>.>;
I really think a lot of people are over dramatizing racial bonuses...
Btw, I don't really care if racial bonuses were added or not, I'd still play whatever race I want!
Strongly against.
Seeing how FFXIV is more lore-friendly than most MMO's on todays markets, players should be able to choose their avatar based on how they like to view themselves in the story.
If sort of "racial stats" or similar were to be added, players should be able to choose what they'd boost, based on their playing styles and personal preferences.
I am for race stats, there is nothing wrong with further defining a race by its natural stat base, if you want to tank as a taru, there is nothing wrong with that either, but it would make sense that a galka could take less damage then a chr the size of his head. I belive this would bring a lvl of realism back to the game, wich I liked about ffxi.
In XI you could always compensate with gear or merits. A good player could always be a great taru PLD or galka WHM. Not against the whole idea. Not sure exactly how it would be best to implement.
Mithras should get the Black Widow perk from Fallout :P
lol
A big part of why a lot of people picked Mithras in FFXI was due to their insanely high depravity. Melee characters best choise was Elvan or Galka 99% of the time (STR, VIT, hp). Mithras were good as Nin, Thf or Rng ...
And btw let's stop this nonsense, racial stats weren't this great deal on FFXI ... easily adjusted by gear options when needed ...
Personally, I would like a slight difference talking about base stats ... because it's not naturally possible for a lalafell to be as strong as a roegadyn, for a roegadyn to be agile like a miqo'te etc.
I don't wish to be punished again based on what I want to have my character look like versus what job I want to play.
I know Yoshi once said he was going to add race based bonuses in 2.0, I really hope that idea went to the wayside.
Instead, as an alternative, why not give the subtle stat bonuses to whatever deity you choose to follow, and allow for people to change their following in game.
What would PLD need a big MP pool for when they recover 13+mp/tick...
Ontopic: Against.
I am all for bonuses, if that's what they stay as simply bonuses. I would love to get an hp bonus as a Roegadyn, this would serve as a bonus across the board, survival for tank/DD more mp for whm/blm which could tip the balance a touch. A bonus to lalafells eva since they are so small also sounds reasonable, again seeing as how they are so small. Perhaps higher acc for miqo'te's since they are so agile, and m.acc for Elezens. These would give a clear definitive direction for what each race excels at, however it can pigeon hole them so bonuses would need balancing if made to influence battle classes. If they are for cosmetic purposes then I have no opinion on the matter since they won't effect me much.
Small bonuses and such are nice, they all bring diversity to gear and players. Race A has X amount of stat/bonus so uses gear 1, Race B has Y amount of stat/bonus so uses gear 2 and Race C has 0 of either stat so must use gear 3, sounds great in theory, but if Yoshi and the team try it, I wish them the best of luck because its a hard thing to balance.
I enjoyed the minute differences between races in XI, I am for race specific traits.
More importantly, I am all for race specific armor appearance. We already have armor that changes (very slightly) when worn on male and female character, but I think it should also look slightly different on different races. It's all the same gear, it has all the same colors and substance to it, but each race holds its very own unique style. The stats would all be the same. A miqote wearing it has no advantage over a roegadyn wearing it, but the styles would be very different. This would bring some uniqueness and pride to each race without creating imbalance. I think the dev team did a very nice job with the new race starter gear in 2.0 concept artwork for playable races. I would love for this to carry over to other armor in the game. Maybe it doesn't have to be all armor, but at least unique/untradeable? Who has not looked at a roegadyn wearing full BRD af and not thought, "that just don't look right."
?
Lv99 Taru BLM has 14 more INT than a Lv99 Elvaan BLM
That is a big difference, and no piece of gear makes up for that. dINT isn't an imaginary stat in XI.
STR is also relevant, Elvaan would have 11 more STR than a Taru, this heavily favors Elvaan because of the way WSC works, allowing for alternative (better) gear choices in some slots.
DEX, Mithra DEX is 96 vs Elvaan 86...or potentially 10% critical hit rate when dDEX is >40.
Aesthetics only.
Against. If FFXI is anything to go by.
What would they say exactly? I'd imagine it would be along the lines of "You're going to always have so much refresh that your max MP doesn't matter" and "If you're a tank, your not going to be 1-shot even with a slightly lower HP pool".
So again, have you people actually played, or do you just think that these things mattered or had anything more than a trivial impact merely because you heard it somewhere and are parroting it here?
I wouldn't mind if stats were a little bit different. Not enough to be game changing, but enough to be different, e.g Lalafell doing a bit more damage with BLM, but don't have as much mana as a Hyur might have (making up less power with more spells -- as an example).
I remember in WoW.. races had racial abilities for Priest :P That was pretty cool.
Lalafel not physically stronger than roegadyns!? Uh what about the two awesome lalafel brothers from Ul'dah from the miners guild. I bet they would mess up any roegadyn that crossed their path.
As we add more identity to our characters, people get excited. We finally have a ring for the Gods we chose over 2 yrs ago during the Character Creation screen. We have craft-specific hats which sell like crazy even though they suck for most jobs. Lots of people came back for familiar-looking Dow/DoM jobs over just classes.
Personally, I hated the huge STR loss for being Miqo'te in XI, but it still gave a sense of pride to overcome it. People like that sort of thing. A small racial difference would be nice. Either that, or maybe just racial traits like a bit more range for a miqo'te Archer or something.
I must have skipped over it, I don't remember being able to chose my guardian...
:c sadness x infinity = Johnnyutah (Newgrounds fans should get it)
Wish I could rechoose. The God of Destruction of course.
I don't think they should have their own abilities... Just a difference in stats. Not being able to choose a race to suit your favourite job/type of job is lame. Not a significant advantage.. Just similar to how it was in FFXI, or FFXIV at release.
Edit: It's why I chose Mithra in FFXI - because they made the best Thieves.
i'm tired of playing Neko Fantasy 14 and i think bringing back the old Race traits is a great way to even out the races either that or the developers can quit being horny toads and give the same details they give mi'qote, to all races.
Then they'll just give stats out in favor of miqo'te. So even MORE people will play miqo'te.
Because that's what happened in XI. I always heard the bullshit excuse that people played miqo'te "because they have good stats for the jobs I wanna play!".
That's a piss poor reason to pick a race. Pick a race because you enjoy it.
Miqo'te aren't the only race who get "detail". FYI.
I'm against it, but at the same time it doesn't bother me.
However regarding the guardian we choose while customizing our character. One of the newest quest made us pray, and I remember getting a ring from the guardian that I'm under. It seems each guardian deity has different stats on the rings. I'll like to know more about the direction the devs are going regarding the 12, because it would add more uniqueness if our guardian actually do something for us.
Not at all, in fact I think it would make the races feel more special and not just a skin to wear.
Exactly.
Now, race descriptions are obviously different ... for example:
"The Dunesfolk can be found on the scorching sands of Thanalan and other such arid areas. As the founders of the merchant city of Ul'dah, they are famous for their obsession with commerce. A natural inclination to transform ideas into action has served the Dunesfolk well in their business dealings."
So they should have some kind of bonus, let's say to CHR, or some kind of "race trait", capable to influence the commerce (in FFXI chr and fame made a slight difference on Npcs prices)
Or:
"Though many live the life of farmers, it is not uncommon to see Plainsfolk residing in Limsa Lominsa, holding positions in the navy or working in the fisheries."
Bonuses as DoL maybe?
"Compared to their Midlander brethren, the Highlanders are noticeably larger in build and musculature."
So how can highlander base STR be equal to a midlander?
I would like to see even little differences, maybe just to justify the clans ...
Or at least, It could be nice to remove the "points allotment" for different classes ... how can my Marauder with 500 str, 500 vit, 1 mnd, 1 int instantly become the super plus ultra white mage, or black mage?
Have race-based stat differences and then have point allotments. You have the option of boosting stats you already excel in or need for your job, or you can choose to boost the deficiencies based on race. Point allotments are per job, so you'd only really be missing those few points of whatever you're missing for one job maybe two. And you can add point allotments to make up for it.
LotRO gave racials too and did a good job at it.
/offtopic rant - sorry
LotRO much like FF11 much like Everquest just need a character model and graphics upgrade. Can't be done, lazy Dev? Tell it to EVE Online.
Sounds like a "Bait & switch" quest from FFxi. How about a naked low-level Lalafells race through a beastman strong hold? The winner gets a pumpkin pie!Quote:

Oh, I'm against race specific bonuses.
Pretty sure most people picked Mithra in FFXI because they got to play as a catgirl, not because of the DEX.
That's not to say some didn't do it for that, but seeing how most people tend to gear themselves by diving into a dumpster and wearing whatever sticks, I don't think a handful of a particular stat that they likely don't even understand influenced race choice.
Problem is, this isn't a game where people play one job, or even one type of job. When you advertise being able to excel at all jobs you want to try, it isn't a good mechanic to not allow that. Stat bonuses just ensure that one race will excel at certain things, and no-one else can ever match them.
Some may try to claim that equipment makes up for such, but it doesn't. All that the bonus bearing race has to do is get the same boosted equipment and they yet again exceed all others. All the equipment and freebie points in the world won't change that, because stat bonuses are by their nature an imbalance.
If bonus just have to be implemented, it should be in a manner that everyone benefits in the same way, but at different times. For example, one race get's a 3% xp boost at night for x amount of time, while another would get it during the day.
They are adding race specific gear. I'm sure the stats will be different on those. Otherwise, no thanks.
No, racials bring an imbalance to the game that are completely unnecessary. If you want racials, just unsub from ffxiv and go buy world of warcraft and enjoy that dying game.
Why implementing something that shouldn't make a difference? To benefit everyone in the same way means to not benefit anyone ... so they could leave things the way they are now as well.
Let's not joke about "Some may try to claim that equipment makes up for such, but it doesn't." ... the most kickass BLM I've ever seen playing FFXI was an elvan ... the "dumbest" class talking about INT ...
Base stats were nothing more than a funny difference ... you could easily overcome that, with amazing results, adding fun to the game ... to see Taru Dark Knights enjoy the slaughter doing Insurgency, Galkas as summoner, "real human males" choosing Mithras only for their look without even thinking about stats etc. was really part of the fun ...
I guess I'm against racial 'skills'.
The problem with unique race abilities/skills is that they will likely be either be unbalancing or useless.
I'm very much in favor of Race stat bonuses long as they taper off near the cap. Though personally I think RSE stats are a much better way to enhance racial differences
Still, there are far more important things for the devs to work on atm. I'd say it is best to shelve this idea and come back to it after 2.0 has been around awhile.
I am against race based bonuses.
You heard it here first guys. If you want racials, go play WoW. You know, the dying game with 10mil+ more subs than this hugely successful game here.
It's a shame that so many people think it's impossible to add any amount of variance between the races without it being balanced. You all must absolutely hate games like FFXI then.
