many asian games, notably korean and chinese, are funded through cash shop purchases. doubly so for mobile games. i'm sure there are some caveats that make the game feel more "mobile" as well if you catch my drift.

Different budgets. Also FFXIV Mobile isn't using PS3-era code, which lets them make other changes too.
We better be prepared to keep getting disappointed.
Chinese Audience + Mobile + New developers = there's no way the PC version's gonna win the battle from what the Mobile's gonna be pushing out in terms of cosmetics and aesthetics.
For folks that dont understand, mobile version uses new engine and coded from basically from scratch. Was shown and pitched to Yoshi-P and SE higher ups, were very impressed, OK'd it and allowed mobile team to use FFXIV assets. So yeah its basically an entirely new game, using FFXIV world, story, and assets.
The funny thing is, both games function on the same engine but different iterations. My prediction is that SE will slowly transition to the newer version as part of their overall slow update. It looks like they can import assets from FF14, but not yet the other way around.
I personally wish they did the way Blade and Soul did, going from UE3 to UE4. Which means almost everything gets upgraded visually while keeping the core game and how things function as it was before.
I am not sure what importing capability Luminous Engine has, but hopefully it's the same.
I still think when the mobile version catches up they just gonna use it as the main game and discontinue the original 14.
Damn the hoverboard looks a BILLION times better than ours, AND it does tricks and stuff. On top of that the hair options, though not my thing are really cool to see.

Like man idk, I feel like Yoshi P. really just needs to do some serious addressing in the next live letter. I feel like they NEED something drastic at this point, because the negatives really are adding up to a level I didn't think they would get to. Like the second this mobile game comes out in the US im hopping on it for sure. Don't plan on renewing my main sub for quite a while though.
This is the sort of hairstyle i always wanted in ff14 too, I really hope they add stuff from mobile into the base game. Like none of the recent hairstyles have been appealing to me at all then they make two that looks really cool but its for mobile
It really feels like if mobile is successful this will happen even more and PC & Console players will be left behind. Which is upsetting because i rather not play on a mobile phone just to get more custom options.
Honestly, I'm an avid player who has been with this game since 1.X beta, and the more I see stuff like this, the more frustrated I am becoming with Square Enix and their choices of late.
I want to keep loving your game, but your business practices are seriously angering me and pushing me away from your game instead. The community is already inflamed over various other things, why would you choose to inflame them more with choices like this?
It doesnt matter if the Chinese mobile version is being developed by another company along side the main game, it still reflects on the franchise and title as a whole. Any decisions SE makes in one WILL have implications for the other, they must be mindful of that ALWAYS.

That's even assuming the Mobile title reaches English speaking communities. For now we are forced to look thru the shop window at all the beautiful toys we can't have (TBD).
Can confirm this. The hairstyle is available in a blind box style and you have to spend around $50 to get all of the variants if you happen to have bad luck with getting the one you actually want.

In the last month we got Viera hats, and hats with fringes.
They've been adding more Hairstyles in Dawntrail than they did in any other expansion, double dyes, speech bubbles. We also got an entire... visual update.
But I guess, what people really wanted... was some mobile gatcha hair.
Wow, far in the video they show the braid hairstyle we have... but their version is SO much better. Not only way more defined, but with variations of bandana and it dyes like a two tone hair.
Edit: I fully know this is going to be an never ending battle of comparisons in many aspects, especially the cosmetic one. Unless XIV steps up in the quality department, it will always fall a bit behind.
Aren't these all cash shop/gamba items?
Even the Character Graphics look better wtf?! The Models look so much more detailed!
That was my tin hat theory as well.
The mobile game is using the Luminous Engine, which is a game engine created and developed by S.E. There is no way in hell S.E isn't getting a % share of the profits that game generates.
It's not a bad move for them to go into mobile gaming since it's rapidly growing and will be bigger than PC by 2030, but still, I do have to say, I don't know why SE wasn't doing this on their own to begin with. Unlike most of their garbage mobile games, this would have a real chance of making it big. There are 0 competitors on the mobile market offering this kind of quality. A true MMO with a great world, awesome lore, great fights, nice cinematics, great open world that is not bricked by a paywall to compete or stay relevant gear-wise.
Yes, there are some other MMOs that were on PC first, but most of them are just pay-to-win garbage.
HOneslty i hope they bring the magitek skateboard to pc. I would spend $30 on it even if its single character. Looks so cool and much better. I been hoping SE adds a hoverboard or something cause i been playing sonic riders zer gravity again. Imagine if they did a sonic and ffxiv crossover, can use MGP to get a hoverboard or your first itme doing the even you can select an extreme gear from shadow, sonic, tails, knuckles or jet. That would be amazing
I noticed that too, if you look at when he spins the screen around or the Miqo moves the hair bounces with her model there's a lot more subtle detail vs actual FFXIV and it's wild.
We're cooked we got the Hoverboard from Wish while they got the one sold from Tony Hawk.
This is a really rose painted way to put this. We still have gear in the game going back to ARR and gear as new as last patch that has NO DYES.
The hats dont even work for all headgear AND they clip/aren't fitted.
The truth is that the mobile slop is higher quality and we are paying a monthly service fee. That is why everyone is upset.
The combat is insanely responsive and snappy verses the original version, too.
Everything about the mobile version looks better until you look at monetization. Pain.
it's a free game but all of that stuff is prolly paid for. that said all of those assets should be free in XIV normal.
no excuses it's diff devs that's great and all but square has the assets. :>
Simple - the developers for the mobile game don't have to...well...make the game. It's already made. The story is already thought up. The characters are already created. They don't have to create any new characters. They don't have to create any new plot. They just use what the "main" game has already done. Hence, they can spend all the time the main dev team has to spend actually *making the game* and instead use it to create *other* cosmetic and QOL things that the main game doesn't have.
i'm gonna guess if enough top tier youtubers call for it. SE might add it to pc but remove the dyeable part until 8.x when you can dye other mounts (chocobo wasn't mentioned because you can dye it so no hate for chocobo users).
This legit looks like something out of a dress up game. I'd stick around even if every expansion craps out bad story after bad story. I'd stay for the glam potential. My only criticism of that hoveboard(something i wanted in game and i don't like what we did get) is that mobile only has arr at the moment and the board doesn't match what was already established in game. It seems to fit in with solution 9 more than anywhere else.
Can't SE just import their work into desktop version? That would be amazing lol.
Folks, this is a prize in a box you bid on gacha style. You want all the variants, it is over $50 real money.
If they do bring it to pc lets say for the 7.5 as a side quest or on the mog station and its $30 for base. I'd buy it because it be worth the wait for it. Though maybe if enough people ask for it they might bring it to PC
i have no interest in it being a gacha item, i simply just want such nice things in the game. i consider gacha a plague.
As has probably been noted before, Lightspeed Studios is a subsidiary of Tencent - a Chinese entertainment conglomerate. It's not Square Enix, nor do I anticipate the graphics or game engines are similar.
Not sure why Tencent would allow Square Enix to utilize art created for a mobile game, but don't expect a crossover any time soon, if ever.
In any case, Chinese mobile (and non-mobile) MMORPGs can be very pretty, regardless of gameplay.
