Congrats on finding out!
Weird take. I'm mostly content (a few complaints aside) because I play other games / have other hobbies and am not completely codependent with FFXIV.
Um chile anyway so...
I can't speak for everyone but the reason I don't mind the "content slop" is specifically BECAUSE I have other games to play. I was hella addicted to FFXI for a number of years where I barely played any other games so I know how it is. 14 for me, is a much more casual and easy game that works just fine if you only play when major patches release.
That being said, I would totally play more often if they released content quicker.
It's actually kind of ironic.
One of the community's primary grievances is that we want more reasons to log in for dedicated players.
Of all MMOs I'd say FF14 players are the most comfortable playing other games because you can jump in and out whenever you feel like. Gearing is super easy, and the content that is added never goes anywhere. (Except old Diadem but I think revamps don't count)
Wanting worth for your sub payment isn't an unreasonable ask with the wait times for new content. If they made demolition timers go away permanently, watch how the sub numbers would drop. But they know this, so they dont do it. Dropping the demo timer to 4-6 months would be enough
100% the devs intentions. FF14 isn't competing against other MMO's, it's competing against EVERY live-service game. From Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, to Monster Hunter Wilds and Helldivers II, to Apex Legends and Marvel Rivals. The way in which people game has definitely changed as well, much more flitting from one game to the next as opposed to undying, eternal devotion to a single game. There is such a thing as too much content, and I'd argue FF14 just about gets the cadence and balance right, aside from the X.1 patches.
Don't hit the door on your way out
This is just disingenuous when you literally cannot play old jobs even if you wanted to, along with the gutting of half of the old dungeons to make them easier for new players and Trust.
There's a reason UWU is a meme today while it was seen as prestigious in 4.3, and no, it's not because of gear or knowledge.
Meanwhile, it's because I play other games that I'm mostly content with the way FFXIV is. I'm not without complaints, of course, but all in all I'm not disappointed.
Housing Demolition is off right now. It's been off since like... October? Sometime last year. And it seems to shut off globally, so like... It's almost never on.
You could have easily taken a break after you finished 7.1, unsubbed, and came back for 7.2 and still have your house.
Ultimates in general lost their prestige, not because of anything to do with the game mechanics, but because people quickly ended up buying clears.
