That's just jumping to conclusions though isn't it? I know cyber grooming is a big issue but not only is it rare in this game cuz of having to sub you are also making the serious accusation without any proof that minors are indeed getting groomed.

"Virtual Clubbing", ERP and general housing events people make up the majority of the subscriptions now that's why.
Now that in Japan their SaGa franchise is gaining some traction again and the SaGa gacha game still printing money left and right they probably do a full Nintendo and don't even care about ''lesser performing franchises'' like FF anymore, given the desolate state XIV is in and FF16 and Rebirth being a complete waste of drive space.
Why shouldn't it be allowed? It's just role playing, which is a core element of the game. I am referring to your screenshots. Now, if they're doing illegal stuff on chat, then that's a whole different story.
saying you are running a place where 18+ only isn't an issue in most places in the world companies do it all the time, they aren't being exposed to anything outside the existence of 18+ areas, if you do not want them even to know things like that exist you shouldn't let your kid on the internet at all. as for that no American Parents are just as annoying irl as well making their kids everyone else problem don't want your kid around it then use software to watch their screen from your screen ghost ware exist. Your kids are not everyone else problem, they are yours alone period. I have been dealing with that bs from people's parents since I was 14 which alone removes all weight to their argument lol
I can only repeat myself. I have nothing against that kind of RP existing in FF14. I have something against the way its advertised in the In-Game Partyfinder and Shoutchat on a daily basis.
Other games are not like this.
WoW: I can sit an entire day in Orgrimmar without seeing a single ERP Event advertisement.
BD Online: I can idle in Valencia City without someone normalizing pr**titution in public chat.
ESO: I can open the Partyfinder without someone advertising their +18 "RP" tavern
This is smth that shouldnt be advertised ingame. We got third party websites and discord server for this.
We need to protect minors and shouldnt confront them with pr**titution, virtual S** and all that stuff on a daily basis while they do the "normal" content. Not in a Game made accessible to 12 y/o. FF14 is not an "Adult Game".
oh no the children. the poor innocent children. they gonna be traumatized for their whole life. only because they see characters in their white underwear talking dirty to each other.
I don't RP so I do find the ads to be creepy and I'm not a fan of what happened to PF since 2020 but realistically RP is allowed in FFXIV and GMs can't ban every single poster who does 18+ club ads without being super controversial as seen in the past. They did it once, and many people came to complain here for pages.
So wait, are we actually arguing here that just because there *might* be minors around, adults shouldn't be allowed to do adult things? I find the ERP/club/whatever advertisements as annoying as the next cat, but as long as they're not being explicit or lewd in public spaces (meaning places like shout/yell/say chat in a city or novice network, or instances with a lot of people like frontlines), where people just walking by might have to perceive what they're doing, they're not doing anything wrong.
Just advertising that adult stuff is going to be happening at a certain place/time is not in and of itself lewd or explicit, and if someone who is too young wanders into a private party that was explicitly stated to be 'adults only' then that's their own fault and poor judgement and rudeness for going where they're not supposed to be.
I am curious how common players younger than 18 even are, though, considering the game requires a subscription to play; I guess kids could be buying gametime cards somewhere irl but it feels like it would be a bit of a barrier to entry for anyone too young to have a credit card...
There's probably a lot more than you might think
I'm fairly certain you can buy physical time cards, and if not then I'm sure it wouldn't be difficult to either stick to free trial to do things or get the parents to pay for it if not buy it themselves
Whenever I was younger and didn't have a card of my own, I'd ask my parents to buy something for me online with theirs and I'd pay them back with physical cash from birthday cards or w/e else
I don't find it disturbing. The announcement is explicit enough so that a minor doesn't end up in it by chance, while avoiding the unwanted spam that can be found in Limsa (which is what bothers me, personally, about this rather unusual rp).
The fact that children frequent a place is no excuse for censoring absolutely everything - in fact, I'd be inclined to say that it would be nice if there were less censorship in general, and I'm not talking about the ERP but about the maturity of the writing.
They kinda have to. I don't know how it works with the american rating organism, but the Pegi (european one) has one clause that mention that while they can't control user content, they have to act so 18+ user content is not easily available, basically that someone has to search for it to find it, and plain as day. They risk some fine or the game might even switch Pegi categories.
Now, I'm no lawyer, but it feels like 18+ ads pf fall under 9.2.2 and should be monitored without even someone reporting them.Quote:

I can't think of any player-driven content that would be age-inappropriate if it is viewed vanilla.
That's a good point, but questionnable when you see how unwilling SE is about doing anything about that. I guess there is no telling without an actual trial.
That said, text only can be innapropriate enough. When you advertise your PF as 18+ you know people will use the chat for unsafe things. Sexting is a thing, it's only words, would you say it's safe for childrent because there is no visual support?
I recall that thread and am obviously uncomfortable with minors receiving such an invitation.
Equally, unless incredibly sheltered, I imagine any 13 year-old on receiving an explanation of what a "courtesan" is would reply "oh, a prostitute!" and get back to playing the game. Alternatively they would simply Google it. As noted previously, they are just as likely to come across the term in (leve)quests.
You can basically guarantee that you have under 18 people ERP in FFXIV, sex animations make it easier for people who have poor skill in writing as "They just want to watch FF porn" so probably easier for them to partake in it now, not that being under 18 makes you illiterate but its a safer bet to be able to categorise that way.
I don't quite understand why clubs advertise in the way they do now, anyone in the social side of FF will know that this is available anyways, good luck finding a club that DOESNT do something ERP related either directly by staff or indirectly by just the patrons.
At the end of the day your "age gateway" is payment, Second Life could be pointed to as free but you have to have a payment record on file to be able to enter Adult rated zones and its pretty easy to just bring up the marketplace for Second Life and see just what kind of thing is involved there.
I just don't like seeing the filth level advertisements in the game, it reminds me of what FF has become.
That's not the important part, I was just trying to show text can be inapropriate enough (that's why I changed the example when I thought of a better one). The fact "they have to be sheltered to not know" doesn't matter. A rule is a rule, even if you don't agree with it. You can argue about its legitimity, but you'll still get punished if you break it.
The big difference between user content and msq is that msq will be evaluated, you exactly know what kids will be exposed to. FFXIV talk about prostitution and slavery, but it always stay at a reasonable lvl. You cannot know if players will have that restrain. comparing msq with user generated content is such bad faith argument.
FFXIV is the world’s most popular adult game. There are almost as many mods for FFXIV as Skyrim with more adult venues than any city on Earth. If you want it, FFXIV’s got it. We like this, you like this, I like this. This is what FFXIV represents in 2025. And the developers like it too. It doesn’t affect you so just don’t worry about it man. Just let people do what they want man. Like, it’s just whatever dude. I’m just here to g**n man, lay off dude. 18+ SPICY NIGHTCLUB! ALL KINKS WANTED! JOIN NOW! (Lalafells accepted)
I mean tbh that is the fault of these parents they forced most of the Real-life clubs/adult venues out of business irl are the city just stopped allowing them to run them due to having to have a license to run a business and they get to decide rather u can or can't with them. I mean Damn you used have gyms and even food places that were adult-only until society started FORCING every space to be family-friendly and annoying bs Between Religion zealots screaming Morality bs and Annoying parents forcing every space in existence to be family-friendly meanwhile their "kid" they want to protect so much is drawing furry/ or anime porn in their notebook or computer/ creating fan fiction stories on Wattpad ( yes we all did that too and some of us still do it) I don't get why people are so annoying overprotective like they didn't go and do these "adult" things when they were 14 and lied their way into getting beer/vodka etc and write or look at pornographic materials lol, even before the internet teen/kids were looking at that from their daddy or mommy's collection under their bed lol, and these people pretend and ignore the truth and scream "grooming" at any adult-themed things being around mean while I can almost 100% grant that their kid knows more about that stuff then even they do lol
Just look at this. This game attracts the wrong people now. Started declining in shadowbringers. And i actually do blame Mare first and foremost for it

There is a third way:
You can simultaneously be OK with adults doing adult things privately, while also lamenting that Square Enix has used the rise in ERP/clubbing as an excuse to pour no effort into the game, and that the culture of FF14 has now completely shifted.
I dislike the culture shift and miss the HW/SB days when we talked about which opener is better for which fight in Idyllshire chat but at the same time I really can't begrudge the ERPers because what else is there to do in the game when it's so stale and you get a thin soup every 4.5 months lol
I pretty much only use my FF14 accounts as an ERP screen saver + [unspecified activities] now lmao. Of course everything will become ERP/clubbing when the game itself is so horrible. This game is Second Life 2.0.
funny thing it hasn't shifted :P its been like this since Housing came out in ARR lol, just more of it now than there was simply because there are more people around, the game is on more platforms and other things, and its grown due to the fact combat has grown worse, and worse over the years, jobs became nothing but new color and animation being all that different, fighting became zombified where you basically shut brain off and autopilot through
I've seen people say the pandemic is to blame, considering everybody had to stay indoors for the most part
but there definitely has been a shift, and it seems to become increasingly more popular
maybe popular isn't the right word, but you see more and more venues crop up
didnt say 100% of people did it, i just said its always been here and ya there was more to do back then and jobs were better designed and felt unique which helped alot, but in the dead times dead periods while waiting for the next thing after people hit max on everything alot of people did even back then.
Tbh I think its a good thing that the ERP and 18+ scene grew its time we FIGHT these stupid parents shoving their kids in every little space that exist and forcing family friendly bs I hope it keeps growing nonstop. even though i dont erp i more horror/gore rp but still I'm happy the erp group is growing more and more to fight these parents bs away if only people were doing this IRL.
Maybe if it doubles or triples I can get exactly what I've been wanting for a long time as a by-product of them forcing the kids out of the game and making it purely 18+
There wasn't that much to do, but the thing is the things that you can do were all fresh and challenging. I remember when going into an alliance raid is a dice roll on whether you'll time out. So many wipes on Mhach and Dun Scaith, a few times I even saw timeouts. Jobs were also pretty complex back then.
What happened back then was that a single dungeon or alliance raid had way more staying power and was much meatier just because of the friction.
FF14 removed all the friction: in job design, in encounter design, and in progression. So now the usual content is just boring even on day 1 and doesn't have staying power.
Ye definitely. So many people just use FF14 for only socialization now. Not that socialization is bad, but in HW the socialization revolved around an actual game.
Using MSQ/Quests covering adult themed topics as an excuse to normalize erp'ing and pr**titution in public places ingame is just wrong. There isn't a single quest ingame that normalizes pr**titution and puts it in a good spotlight.
I'm not a big Story-Andy but Thancred for example was naked in HW because he went through aether and lost his physical from while doing so. Not because he got a h*rny and wanted to "RP" with the next catgirl that runs across.
Adult themed stuff was never threated as something good or appropriate in the story. Prove me wrong.
Something the people trying to defend the situation in Limsa and Partyfinder really should watch.
The whole ERP advertisement stuff in Limsa and Partyfinder became a thing in late ShB, early EW. Not in ARR. ERP in general on the other hand was always there but was something you had to look for. You didnt get bombarded with it in every public place ingame.
People saying that there is no "normal" content anymore compared to past expantions have probably never stepped into most content of the game and are crying about Mare being down on patchday before unlocking the new Raid.
Ofcouse this Game has issues rn. It always had the same issues. SE is trying to cater to the entire Playerbase which is simply not possible. If the content SE releases doesnt cater to you without you having to act inappropriate in public places by turning this game into the next "adult game" I would highly suggest you to leave and look for another game. There is 100% a game out there that caters to you.
eh Like i said idc, either way, I hope the ERP people grow because if they grow and push the game to a pure 18+ that means I can say w/e i want and talk how i desire with nothing against me so I can go into the pure dark romance/gore core all I want :) plus I want to see it happen even though I don't erp just to Push against the family-friendly bs society has been shoving everywhere
There's always been RP events on PF since I returned in HW but it's been just pages of night clubs and venues since 2020 and hasn't stopped even now.
Also, I used to check PF to help sprouts clear the less popular raid series like Coil or Alexander, V&C, and DD if I was that bored.
Lol you complain about why there's so much ERP and then you deny the reason standing right in front of your eyes.
There is no content. This game is dogwater. Why are you surprised that the people who actually enjoy playing video games all quit a long time ago, leaving behind ERPers, bots, and Chloe Saunders
Only because the current content doesnt cater towards you doesnt mean that there is no content.
Midcore and Hardcore Players are really eating good so far in DT.
A decent first Raidtier, Chaotic Raid, 3 really good first Ex-Primals with mechanics that dont put you to sleep on the 2nd clear and a good Ultimate that is not too hard for Midcore Players like TOP on release but also leaves enough room for sweaty gamers to optimize.
The Playergroup that came short so far were the Casuals which will change with 7.2 and the new Bozja and all that stuff.
But again. If the Game doesnt cater towards you it means that you should leave and look for another game.
I've been on both fences of this argument.. But really, generally, it is OK provided the 18+ content is done behind closed doors, e.g., I think it's best to advertise a venue as mature to steer people away, than it is to let someone play the whole "Why don't you mess around and find out game". It's arguably just as safe on both the 'child' and the people at the venue.
and frankly policing what people do behind closed doors is a pretty bad precedent to set.. First and foremost because you will very quickly escalate how people feel about all things against ToS. Should they start banning people for simply showcasing a mod regardless of whether said mod is harmless or not when done for personal consumption, e.g., parsing or character mods... Shall we ban those people too? -- Shall we then start banning people for simple talking about them? Because there absolutely is a clause in the ToS that stipulates "- Creating, distributing, using, or promoting utilities that interact with the game."
Should we also start banning people for profanities, because many people absolutely do find it deplorable to express certain profanities in the presence of a child.
This may come across as pedantic, but this absolutely will happen.
so theres the truth of it, you dont really have an issue with it you just angry that its being treated as not a negative thing from the player base, that players are prostituting and doing other things in those areas YOU don't approve of probably because something like religion so your waving your cane in the air at them not for doing it but for not being ashamed of it and receiving hate from the public because they are having fun in their own way.
Your okay with it exist when these old writers are writing it in a negative light thats fine https://i.imgur.com/mQBdNyk.jpeg

Please I enjoy games, I just don't enjoy what Yoshi has turned ff into and I can use older final fantasy to prove my point on that and how he has turned ff into this pansy storyline bs i mean ff10 death spiral story, ff7 legit have a main character dying and suffering mental illness and body break down from the start, ff9 u kidnap and do other negative things. ff8 your legit just a bunch of orphans being paid to kill people at school that trains you for it lol.
I mean ff12 and ff13 as well have all been darker storylines the only Light and cheerfull ffs were ff1 and ff14 lol
