I personally 2nd this motion. Some of us still haven't got the win yet. Plus.... who says Nael has to be related to ARR storyline? Most of you seen in past titles that old bosses came back as rare fights. :p
oh god no... let him freaking die for the sake of the twelve... I think I would quit game if they brought him back... to think the only thing to make me quit game is if a final boss that was killed is brought back yet again... I''ll rip my hair out...
As somebody who hasn't got the win, the earrings should stay limited. They are exclusive to 1.0, and should show off the fact that you were a badass in 1.0. Some things should stay super limited and super rare. SE can always make some super rare 2.0 earrings with different but awesome stats.
Insta-Solution:
Black Wolves

Cool 1.0 people gets the white ones, everybody else gets the black ones.
I never said anything about needing more time. Look at my join date, do you think I would even have a chance at it? No. I've come to terms with that, OP hasn't, thus this thread . Putting words into my mouth doesn't help your case.
All I'm saying is this, others obtaining an item doesn't detract from your accomplishment. It's a hard fight, no doubt. You have your earring, it's not as if someone else getting one is going to lessen the value of your (unique untradable) item. Hypothetically, they would still have to put in the time, just like you did.
Not as if any of this chatter is going to make a difference anyway, devs said the fight and the drop were gone. You knew this obviously, but you couldn't leave well enough alone. I guess what I'm saying is that there is no need to be catty about someone trying to better their selves. Especially since it has no bearing on you whatsoever.
the fight was designed for the current battle system... you think they are keeping ifrit moogle and garuda exactly the same? they are going to have to redesign the fights for the new combat system... and raven the setting and everything is trashed with 2.0 ending... redoing it would be a waste of time when they should be developing new content x_x
with the way the combat system is now and they way darnus does his abilities x_x it would make it so much faster to burn him and dodge his attacks...
SE is all for contradicting stuff in XIV to please this community, so I'm sure he'll return like 7th UE storyline never existed.
Would be nice to see him return in ARR !
(As a Reference to the past like "The World was brought to ruin by a Sick-minded Legatus clad in white armor..etc" Is what I had in mind when I saw this)
The new villian would be the old villian, Van Gaius.
He occupied Ala Migo, to conquer Eorzea is his mission in the first place.
Van Daius only got his spotlight because SE needed an armageddon event to destroy 1.0.
The only way I can see him back in 2.0 would be in a flashback echo CS
Great design, great villain.
My guess is that in some new storyline down the road, we will find him cocooned/hibernating in large chunk of Dalamud.
Somehow, he will be revived, and immediately start looking for some great power source (likely scattered parts of Dalamud) and he will threaten to destroy Eorzea AND the Empire (he might even kill the emperor).
At which point, Van Gaius will actually recruit our help in stopping him.
And we will fight him several times - and finally he will locate/gather the power he needs and become transformed into the Ultima Weapon.
**Just speculation, but it seems rather plausible, if not likely.
EDIT: I just realized what I wrote was almost the plot for the first half of FFVI.
Nael van(deus) Darnus = Kefka
Gaius van Baelsar = General Leo
Emperor Solus zos Galvus = Emperor Gestahl
I'm honestly expecting him to return in the crystal tower. Which I also assume will be the remnant of Dalamud. That red dust at the end of the battle almost seemed to go back into Dalamud.
Not to mention that S-E was still planning on adding some storyline to explain what happened in 1.0. Hence why I expect him to reappear but in a weapon form. Either Ultima or Omega. We might get some explanation to who he was before fighting him in his new form.
Sure, let's also give everyone in 2.0 all the 1.0 achievements and rewards just for making a character~ I mean it's not a big deal or anything, so hey why don't we just remove the item completely? Throw in a Legacy status too because if you can't get it in 2.0 it just isn't fair!
/sarcasm
White Ravens (earrings) to be obtainable in ARR? No, definitely not.
Nael Van(Deus) Darnus back as a storyline villain (in some form)? Yes, please.
He could come back. He was honestly Sephiroth'd with the way he died......
I'm kinda torn on this.
One part of me wants to kick his ass again, but another part knows that if he does return as a storyline boss it'd be cheap to having ressurected him.
I think I'd be personally fine with his ghost just popping up from time to time as a shade like entity taunting you and Gaius. Even if you can't see him, you can probably hear his "echo", lingering. There's still a few things we don't know about Nael van Darnus, such as why he was so devoted to Dalamud in the first place, as well as why he was hijacked by Dalamud (Gonna call it here, Bahamut is in Dalamud, considering how Nael used Megaflare during his 2nd phase).
If he was to return as a boss, make it a questline that requires certain things to happen. Make his rebirth a little like Absolutes Virtue's, where you have to beat several powerful monsters which hold several of his possesions (maybe inside the Crystal Tower or near where Dalamud crashes in Mor Dhona), just minus the impossible to beat part and more of a fun instanced fight. Maybe have players gather pieces of Darnus' personal armour that still has pieces of his spirit attached in order to call him forth to banish his taunting ass for good?
I'm just making stuff up as I go here but if he was to return, it'd have to be optional and the story should be the only reward as to not annoy people who earned their White Ravens from hard mode Darnus.
or right just like.. ultima weapon, right.

i can see the threads about "oh such a disappointment its "just" ultima weapon and not Darnus". ;)
but well a good final fantasy was all about speculations :) so its a good thing that we can speculate about FFXIV ARR :D
I think he is also awesome, His Radiance, Solus zos Galvus

maybe we will fight him one day, although the lore says he's been very ill etc.
but i have to agree that darnus is really badass.. the first villain in FF Online franchise which i really enjoyed.. because he was so damn evil and had charism and character.
Just like Sephiroth, I'm sure The White Raven, will never be just a memory.
Not at all, who said Nael wasn't designed to purposely resemble Ultima, and then the rest of Ultima purposely designed to resemble Nael, so he can be a badass boss in ARR? Could be coincidence, but it is uncanny. As they do have a large amount of unusual similarities (things other then, this guy has a head, so does that guy crap).
I think I was a bit vague in way I worded that.
What I was saying was:
If Ultima Weapon = Nael Van Darnus, then I don't think we will just fight him out of the blue as Ultima Weapon - new players will need to understand the back-story.
My guess is that we will fight him before he becomes Ultima Weapon, and then after as a "Final Boss Form" battle.
Still, the Ultima Weapon might have no connection to the White Raven whatsoever, in which case ignore my speculation. :p
you know i dont get it, people keep comparing Darnus to Ultima. Look at Giaus helmet which far more resembles Ultima than Darnus. If anything jsut like other FF besides 11 Darnus is stronger than Giaus it would be Giaus as Ultima and Darnus as Omega, especially since in ff8 Omega was a white version of Ultima.
Well Giaus said he couldnt take Darnus on himself during the Pilgrimage quest. And Darnus just straight out owns you all the way up to his final fight like most ff villians, But Giaus has to have a Warship shoot people to win sorry Darnus wins there.
if nael comes back and you have the earring on, I want him to acknowledge it.
