The Content Cycle needs to break.

I've been playing since ARR and never really unsub, 14 is my game to relax in and I (used tp)play it a lot, but this patch will be my 1st time that i'm unsubbing since HW.
I Normally always find something to do, but not this patch..
It kept me busy for like a week, 2 weeks at most >_> and I play with friends and don't rush content
I'm so bored and fed up that I don't care to wait for the chaos alliance to arrive(which after a few days will be dead on PF and can only be cleared through DC anyway) also why do we have to wait months for a costum delivery quest to arrive?
I understand that they want us to stay hooked so we don't unsub, but they're failing really hard if they're losing someone like me.
Also i'm really tired of all the orchestrion rewards this expansion.. It is not exciting >_<

Idk it got stuff to do but im not a casual lol I know how to keep myself busy in a mmo

This game is garbage and it is getting worse. I am only here for the FOMO.

I didnt buy FFXVI and definitely no other MMO from Square Enix. And yeah, I liked 1.x more than what we have now.


Sorry for being so harsh. But SE ignored all important complaints over the years. FFXIV is just a cash grab from bad story writers. ARR back in the day was a save road for getting money back after that problematic years. But after Budgetbringers EW and now 7.0 and 7.1 they really dont care anymore.

The devs genuinely believe that their non-raider playerbase is content with map CBT, the same expert roulette dungeons every day for a year, a five minute run of beast tribes culminating in a mystery gift, and then endless ERP in someone's goonshack. Hell, not even the pvpers could get new rewards from what I've understood.
Meanwhile, for people who enjoy torturing themselves in PF via raiding, like clockwork there are extremes, unreals, savages, ultimates, chaotics.

God help you if you've just wanted an increase to the CWLS cap so you can build a better community. Or improvements to the FC system. Or increased house furniture caps that they promised a year ago. Or some chill variant dungeons. Or a relic to grind for. Or a foray to explore. Or a deep dungeon to dive into with a few friends. That'll come later! If it even comes at all. Lol. Remember when they rolled out the DT roadmap and people were calling it the content expansion? lol. lmao. god forbid they change things up and frontload any of the content with genuine replayability. nono, please wait a year for the expansion to maybe get good. We must satisfy our raiding population that logs in one Tuesday a week and treats this game like a job! What's that? They're all cheating and livestreaming it? Oh well. We just ... can't do anything different! We have to satisfy them, and literally no one else!

... Wait, where is everyone going??? Please don't retire!

There needs to be a reason to do side quests. Remember how you had to do a small quest to unlock dyeable armor? We need a reason to go down and help a small fishing village and hear about their writing and be rewarded with a unique fishing outfit or an emote at the end of it all.

You’ll take your ‘Talk to 3 people then return to quest giver’ for pretty much every single quest in the entire game’s 11-year lifespan and you will like it. Hell they made literally an entire numbered Final Fantasy game based around that concept, it’s called FFXVI lol…

Inb4 someone says ‘there content if you want it you just aren’t looking hard enough’ . I don’t really care if I can spam leves to get 100,000,000 Gil achievement or that I can ‘just do ultimates in PF bruh’ (lol), or that I can totally go ERP in someone’s basement and that’s totally ‘content’ lol.

Players basically get to choose between ‘literally making up their own content (RP)’ or ‘join a static/PF and smash your head against ultimates until everyone else beats it with third party programs so the entire ultimate exercise was entirely pointless’. Not what I’d say is an approachable game design lol…

Quests don't even give decent exp rewards since Heavensward even after you do like 20 of them. And you want them to give unique outfits? HA

This game throws EXP at you left, right and centre.
It is very easy to over level multiple classes in this game.

The side quests are more so there for lore/story, instead of EXP fountains.

You assume people haven't dropped the game, but I collected 40 people's recent unsub announcements in my thread and that excludes those who leave silently or don't post here. You don't have to take the hate seriously as it's not meant for you anyway.

As for side content, I did find Arcadion fun and will probably finish the rest at some point, as well as trying all the delayed content that will still come with the expansion I already paid for. Whilst continuing to vote with my wallet of course. You and every other subscriber will be funding my free-to-play game experience when they do another callback campaign, and after I sample the content I'll leave even more feedback on your dime that you'll not like reading. Lol

As an enjoyer of Lore, I don't think it would be a bad thing for quests to actually give good rewards too. I know there's a billion ways to get EXP out there. I don't understand why quests can't be one of them too, especially since they've begun to synch quests since Shadowbringers.

Glad someone summed it up, at the time of posting on OCE, theres ONE PF group and its someone trying to do MSQ.

Duty finder? Every roulette is "More than 30 minutes".
The playerbase has just outright died in DT and im kinda over SE's copium that things are fine as is.

On US servers i had too much lag to run Savage, but there was always active content 24/7. On OCE, we seem to get 2-3 hours of prime time a day thanks to nobody having actually transferred here and stuck around, I cant blame them as leaving my US FC for better ping was one hellova difficult choice to make.
I also cant really transfer back as it would mean giving up anything remotely close to the games primary content (Savage) since SE are so dead set on pumping most the games funding into it over content EVERYONE can do.

No matter. Im just tired of logging in and having nothing to do, let alone not being able to get groups for content i want to do.

I only resubbed to check out the FFXI raid and only because someone had given me a 60 day code I was holding on to. My FC is dead. My friends list is nearly dead. Expac has been out for 6 months and there's still not anything to do in the game that isn't rolling your face on the keyboard easy or "study a 20+ minute video guide like its a calculus exam" difficult.

"No expansion has launched with a relic since ARR" Maybe they should. "Field op always comes halfway through the expansion." Maybe that's an insane decision and always has been? Yoshi P stood in front of a giant image listing all the content coming to the game in Dawntrail and it's been six months since launch and the only piece of it that released is an Ultimate, content designed for the top ~5% of players. Any other MMO would be raked over the coals for that. Imagine if WoW had talked about how important Delves are and how they're a huge part of the game alongside raids and dungeons, and then announced The War Within wouldn't get any until a year after launch. You know exactly how that would be received.

People have short memories. Anima relics started with 3.15, so projected onto Dawntrail that would be happening right where Chaotic-Trial-Boss-Inspired-From-Alliance-Raids will release in a couple of weeks. ARR Zodiac weapons released in Vanilla.

Relics only started happening later when they decided to tie them up with exploration content (which prior to SB was Diadem, unrelated to relics, and Diadem still happened in 3.1 anyway).

I only resubbed for one month and I'm already sick of hearing the Strayboroughs theme for the hundredth time. The new alliance raid was fun but I don't need the gear and I don't really care what it looks like. Outside of that, there's plenty of other multiplayer games out there that I'm enjoying instead of grinding my face in the sand. There's plenty of games out there that are a much better time investment. If all there is, is bite sized pieces of content and there's little issue catching up on gear, I may as well just wait until this time next year when they actually decide to have a reason to resub. Simply put, other than a house being held hostage, there's not really a reason to STAY subbed outside of the obvious top end raiding. I even had more to do during BfA in WoW and that's saying something.

Since this game is now for logging in and sending out my retainers and that is it, I've found some serious fun playing Inifnity Nikki (which seriously shouldn't be scoffed at it, very well done). I am finding more fun playing gacha dress up than this.

It’s not that I’m bored(active mainly because FC friends) but rather I’m taking a different lens and looking at it from a new player’s angle. While there are shit tons to do, new players may not want to do it because it’s “tedious” or it’s “boring” to them, or heck; even “too hard” is common for a lot in reference to EX and Savage.

I’ve been playing this game for a long time, but it’s important we call out what the problems are with XIV’s player retention in regards to these huge patch lulls, since while it has felt normalized for a while, the same formula can only work for so long before the playerbase goes stale on it.

In Live Service, it’s important you spice up the experience every now and then and take player feedback into mind. Shades’ Triangle is still a ways off(which will definitely be our holdover unless they somehow botch that bigly) and Chaotic is geared towards EX/Savage Raiders, not your middle of the road Casual Player.

We need an in-between so that there is a pipeline to EX/Savage(which Alliance Raid isn’t it, as much as we want to praise its design minus EW and Crystal Tower Alliance Raids). If anything, they need a different approach to condition people towards it, so it may be time for them to crank out a new difficult of dungeon that isn’t Variant.

Difficulty levels actually used to be a common, even almost a normative thing in video games ... then for some reason they became "oh no, no no no, GIT GUD!" demonized.

It's like the older generation of gamers doesn't count for anything anymore and we're supposed to go on, git, move aside and accept Generation Fromsoft as the standard.

(Also Very Easy is a very valid escape hatch in case of tuning issues; especially in the past, there were story duties that were far too disproportionately hard on certain Jobs, and then you have times where major class features got yeeted but the class duties still clearly expected you to have them e.g. Gladiator 30 or some of the Arcanist/Summoner duties ...)

This as well. Replayability is a vital thing in MMOs and I've noticed it's an issue in FFXIV in particular.

Wanna play an alt? Get ready to do all the quests you really hated all over again. Also get ready to reclear all your content with PFs with two left feet because as far as they know you're just another hopeful holding back groups by estimating personal progress too optimistically. No account-wide achievement to link to leaders like WoW (heck, we still can't link achievements in chat at all afaik).

And speaking of PF, it feels like an awful lot of mainline endgame content lately feels ok to bash your head through the first time but becomes an awful chore to farm for rewards unless you shelve it till unsync or you get particularly well-oiled parties (typically only available early on which further fuels the destructive "content rush" and hyper-selective grouping mindsets). Again, replayability issue.

Maybe SE kinda doesn't really want us playing alts anymore even if we buy the full sub? (Several issues go away with one character per player, e.g., the fact that it took so long to get account-wide blacklisting, the fact that alts still aren't very well visibly linked which still allows people to get around social consequences fairly easily, the fact that anti-alt design means people with loads of houses come under at least some pressure to decide if they still want to hang onto that many, the jank of trying to move inventory to alts, the "this premium item is only available on a single character even though often you can only register it once per account" mess, etc. Oh and it would sell more Fantasia, which is honestly MTX lightning in a bottle since it's such an attractive buy for many players while not giving any advantage)

There is certain gameplay people seek out in a game and certain gameplay they avoid. I expect a lot of the issue is that instead of being able to play a definite type of game, MMOs have had an increasing trend towards "you need to be good at almost every kind of video game or you can get off the bus now" and that is what people dislike.

Anyway the rub with IFTC is that the whole challenge lay in having to figure out where things were and what order they had to be done under a time limit with little margin for error. Once you have the knowledge, it is as easy as everything else.

Unfortunately, knowledge as a challenge doesn't really work well in today's media world (which also tends to negatively impact a lot of gaming in general as it seems to be the cause of the trend towards everything becoming a mouse-on-Monster sensory overload fest as when you have Google at your fingertips the only possible skill challenges are physical: I expect this informs a lot of older gamer burnout in particular)

This is likely necessary because of class balance - else there would be a return to the ARR situation where tanks and healers basically get a free ride while DPS (especially ones like Dragoon and Bard) find things particularly cursed. Moreover, that was a duty that particularly screamed out "you really should do this with your main" for story reasons as well ...

I did some basic number crunching and by my guess, we won’t see 7.25 and our “grindy” content until sometime in June of 2025. Nearly a full year from the launch.

During that time, we will have had multiple EX trials, 8 complete Savage raid bosses one Ultimate and all the casuals get for major content is the FF11 event.

So help me, if the next relic is a vendor bought weapon…. I’ll… I’ll… I don’t know, I’m already in hibernation… it may be time to fully check out.

To be honest, Yoshida seemed to like this idea given we have a lot of jobs currently. If we're going to talk Relic, then the mainstay has to be we need something with a story - not to mention something that isn't a glorified tomestone grind. We DO NOT want another EW situation where we're farming tomestones upon tomestones upon tomestones for our Relic every step of the way because that is a surefire way to flare up playerbase annoyance than repeating what they did in EW.

With Shades' Triangle I'm hoping they decide to do something constructive or new with their systems, since if this foray doesn't deliver then DT might as well be a failure in itself, at least in terms of content being delivered and being varied.

The criterion its associated savage mode were straight over the top overkill for the target group for the relic. While I enjoy difficult content, my savage static looked at criterion, said it looked cool and skipped out. We decided to finish progging our savage raid instead of progging a dungeon. Needing to have a static and having to prog it shows that criterion was massive overkill. We want harder content, not content made by the savage team.

If they want to give us harder dungeons, how about them letting us pull, not wall to wall, but start to boss for better loot or tokens that can be turned in for goodies? Let the players make the dungeons harder by bigger pulls or even more wild, pulls to the boss and fight them all for even crazier rewards or titles. They dont have to make any new dungeons, only a new mode where all the walls are gone. Yes, that means if your truely insane, start to finish pulls... yea, think about that madness.

The area between the first and second boss of Doma Castle allows for this and it's probably the most fun dungeon pull in the game. The level it's synced to also helps

Unless you also mean the walls between bosses too. That'd be wild

There is a variety of content, the variety of the content is not the problem, it is the lack of repeatability of the content that is the issue. It's a once and done thing, then maybe you go back for daily or weekly duties, e.g., roulettes, or Island Sanctuary workshop. Longstanding casual players actually have very little to actively do.

Now let's get on the boredom comment.. This is just as much of an issue as anything else you could mention, as boredom stems from multiple areas, inc., lack of repeatability or substance. There is only so long you can do Island Sanctuary for before you come to the stark realization that it is a daily simulator.

Now, nobody expects everything to be interesting, and nor do they expect for that boredom aspect to actually be removed, but they absolutely don't even try to make it interesting or make it repeatable. But hey, look on the bright-side at least the game is getting more bloated visual effects.

Agreed on all points I'm reading in here, and feeling the content drought. Now that I finished 7.1 on my main, it's like....what's left to do but the same ol' gear grind content? And the rewards! Even the materia is trash level as a quest reward. Been playing since 2016 and it somehow feels like it's gotten longer and longer between things....and the MSQ or regular dungeon rewards are just awful.

And SE - Please give us some less repeaty/rehash DF ad infinitum run stuff, or maybe more landscape things other than the same fates...this might keep people engaged and motivated. What about special fates for gatherers, where if you get gold tier level, you get one special crafting mat to use? And please no more of the non queque-able stuff like BLU either? I'm not really interested in a class (that isn't a class really), that has zero purpose other than leveling them up in a circus ring, just to have them stay parked until new spells/skills come out either. u_u

I would have both as an option. Everything up to and including the boss and have a wall, this would be savage.

Nightmare mode is there are no walls period, you could pull from start to finish.

Both modes would not be tuned any differently than the normal runs. The would save on dev time. I figure having several dozen monsters and bosses should make it hard enough on its own.

Rewards would be based upon how much you pull, if sync is used, etc.

To the final wall with it all would be only a title when synced.

This would also allow for some clutch saves and mayhem, you could pull it all and train some off, using kiting to remove mobs, etc.

It’s all existing assets, just no walls, no rules, it’s a nightmare our own making and we get rewarded if we survive.

Could be double tomes, more loot, rare loot, random raid tokens, etc. I would also have a bad luck system that you get tokens to spend on that one item that just won’t drop.

I'll give a shoutout to Variant Dungeons. I think those are legitimately fun. I think we need to see more of that thought process in casual content, though.

Another damning problem is the slightly longer time between patches, though. That seriously adds up and doubly so when the content given hasn't felt particularly worth the extra delay. I think people understood back during the pandemic because that was a shitshow for everyone, but now something has to give--either in terms of time or returns.
