Melee ineffective in 7.1 Frontlines

Based on the massive increase in the number of people playing BRD, I'm guessing it feels decent. Whether that's because they can get off their skills without feeling like a ping-pong ball in a goldfish bowl or because the new hit detection impacts them less I couldn't say.

Bard is slower than before because of changes to its toolkit but is by no means the slowest now. Reaper still feels fast and responsive.

Still, it seems to me that the problem of melees lack is exaggerated. At least if talking about EU Light. On average, I counting something like 15-20 melee jobs on three aliance, what looks like normal balance of melees (sometimes more, sometimes less). But, most of them is ninjas and dragoons, warriors. Sometimes sams and drk. Rarely reapers. No vipers, monks, very rarely u can see gunbreaker.

Paladin i didnt caunt beacuse most of them what i see, is the players what just 0 BH 0 dmg players, every match, except for the rare fans of those classes.

But here's what I noticed. That the meta has really shifted to a "pursuit" meta. More players increasingly prefer either a comfortable or overpowered class like the astrologer. There is practically no spam from scholars, they have been replaced by white mages (which is not surprising). More red mages, more machinists and bards, than it was before. With summoners the feeling is twofold.

Tanks have died as a role, because their purpose has become simply meaningless. I see black knights less and less (the kids are rejoicing, although what is there to rejoice about, we have another practically dead class in the pool).
Warrior still feel nice but he have blota and primal rend so easy to put him in "pursuit".

Melee is just not fun to play right now and problem not in cc chain personally for me. You seem to be doing something, press all buttons, dealing damage, but you don't feel like you're having any impact on the fight. If before even 0 BH dark knight kept the whole alliance in a little tension, now most even synchronized melee attacks of few players are often simply ignored by opponents.

I think most melee classes need a better argument than they currently have right now in FL (except nin and sam, ofc). Look right now all the greens and reds ranges simply better in everything, even in tanking, because I rarely see melee and tank classes in the top for damage received and HP restored, and this is madness for my opinion.

IMHO Melee just Feels bad now. That doesn't mean its objectively worse than ranged jobs, but it just feels the part since you're in the front fighting which means those hits are a lot more crucial when enemies slightly out-range you, or you're in the pile that's getting hit by multiple targets AoEs. Another part is Melee seemingly losing more abilities to CC targets while ranged gets more, which for how PvP is balanced in this game, every class is vaguely going to do the same amount of damage, but some ranged are just loaded up with CC while a portion of Melee gets dinky hits or bigger cooldowns to burst ranged targets down, with also having Purify nerfed it makes catching them even harder. Mostly this is a BRD issue, very responsive class that does basically everything you'd want from a DPS Support while also having a Silence/Bind that is also a Disengage, and a Knockback now for some reason. I don't even know what you can do for Melee without making it insufferable to fight instead besides standardizing HitReg to not be so slow and sloppy now especially for harder hitting attacks that let people Recuperate once or twice in the time of the attack connecting.

As someone who regularily played Frontlines so much that even my 11+ alts would get series 25+ rewards, can no longer find motivation to queue Frontlines even for a roulette bonus should speak volumes.

I play a variety of roles. I play aggressive no matter what role I'm in. That playstyle is no longer in "Fashion". Now teams stand off at max ranged distance and sling spells at each other until objectives force them to clash. I've had good performances on Melee in 7.1. I wouldn't say I had a fun time getting those numbers, or scoring those kills. That is a serious issue. Everytime I attack someone with a melee, it feels like I'm beating them with a wet pool noodle. Whereas ranged can pluck me off at a distance, keep me at a distance, and CC me with 3+ abilities while I have maybe one if I'm lucky? No thanks. Hitreg has gutted some Limit breaks, others now using them may as well be akin to suicide.

Unless the FoMo rewards are absolutely some of the finest and best looking sets they've ever put into the game, I will no longer be participating in Frontlines PvP, and will be lurking in the background seeing if things ever change enough to bring me back.

Frontlines as a whole are at their worst right now, but melees fare alright. The bad hit detection means that you can more easily get caught off guard given the risk you may take by diving in against 10+ people, but other than that, I feel like some other jobs got neutered much more.
