This was actually funny, once the story got underway and it was shown she was getting normal amounts of screen time. But I’ll admit that whole scene I too initially groaned because she really did just happen to happen on us out of nowhere. So I thought it was going to be more of the same, especially how she also appeared at the perfect time to not only find us but to refer that one guy to the support group.

Still weird she just thought in her usual walk around the city meant she’d run into us eventually…I mean it did happen….but you’d think being top dog in charge she’d IDK send a letter to our cabin first. Or does wandering around until who she needs manifest before her how she operates even after becoming Dawn Servant

Is it really "out of nowhere", in context I mean, it's the capital city of the nation she is co-monarch of, she is known to try her best to stay close to her people so her wandering around during her free time makes sense, and WoL sat down to eat at one of her favorite restaurants in town, I just interpreted the scene as "She was going to grab lunch, then go personally meet WoL at their cabin right after, and a minor coincidence saved her time".

I don't think that's how Lamaty'l operates tbh, not with someone like WoL whom she outright says she considers to be like family, if you were an unknown envoy from another nation, sure, but WoL means more to her than just taking the cold yet practical route.

They weren't going to just write her out. The Poochie treatment was never going to happen. That being said, aside from the start, she's fairly backseat in this patch. The one time she tries to fix something through her relentless optimism, she's told to eat sand, so there's that.

I waited five months to watch cutscenes with endless chatter about rroneek grazing patterns. These people have completely lost the plot, both literally and figuratively. Meanwhile, none of the aging core systems of the game have been even slightly improved in ten years. Clean house and find a new team.

I did say "oh go away" when Wuk showed up, but overall i liked the msq, i think its flawed but added more info about koana and Zorral jr. Dungeon was really atmospheric and it leaves us with some threads to speculate whrere its going. So ultimately its an improvement on 7.0 story but still isnt too spectacular (which i ddint expect it to be as its a .1 story patch so more set up.

Yeah, I thought the same.
They have always set up main plot points and left them for a while to address some side stuff. Hovever... USUALLY that side stuff was still relevant to the MSQ, or at least highlighted something interesting, not just animal behavior for a "how can we transport someone by train without disturbing the wildlife" subplot in a world where airships exist.

Not this time though. That side plot was a huge waste of screen time. For a couple of side quests this would have been fine. But for the MSQ it was a poor choice. And poorly written too. The execution is just not on par with Endwalker and Shadowbringers. Not even close.

Ngl, I also have ptsd, usually I try to do the story mode first thing to not be spoiled, this time I'm waiting for spoilers so I can know what I need to skip. I'm sick of wuk lamat.

You can call me childish, over the top, dramatic, whatever you want. Personally, for me, the moment Wuk showed up again during that first peaceful cutscene, I was tired already and done with the MSQ.
For the very first time since I started playing in 2.x, I skipped most of it, so I admit I can't say if they really toned her down or not. And yes, I get that she is a part of the MSQ and will be present at least until 7.3 is finished.
But the fact that she was still in our face from beginning 'till finish, again not giving us even a little break, was enough for me to say...nah. They didn't really listen to any feedback.
I mean, why not give us at least a tiny break? What's so difficult about that? It's not hard to take a character out of a scene or two, I don't get it.

I wanted to give the story another chance, but at the same time I'm at a point where I don't wanna force myself to sit through something that's no fun for me, just to be able to tell others 'Hey guys, I sat through it and watched like a good girl' at the end. I'm not playing the story for anyone but myself and my own amusement, after all.
The devs had enough time to make me engaged in the story, the characters and Tural as a continent during 7.0. They failed to do so. Massively.

I did the 24-man, it was surprisingly fun. Better than the last one by a landslide.
The dungeon was fine too, atmosphere was appropriate and the bosses had a cool design.
Ex remains to be seen, haven't tried it yet but I will sooner or later.

But the MSQ? Nah. That's over and done for me. You like it? Great, I'm happy for you, I really am, and I honestly from the heart wish that was me. But me, personally? I can't stand it or Wuk Lamat at all.

Riiight because Square games have never been woke in the past. I'm annoyed you linked such a stupid video. Having played Romancing saga 2 remake which all saga games since the beginning are pretty fucking woke is an amazing game. I immediately dropped metaphor to play it because the battle system is way better than Metaphors.

AsFor the MSQ I honestly didn't care for it due to it being centered around the lizard baby for some reason. I'm ready to start learning about another shard already to get past this boring stuff. The Raid was a blast though even the final dungeon boss was wild.

also with say no to wuk lamat have her spare with the warrior of light if combat spare between each location. give player choice what race Sphene reincarnation could as child also give player ability feel like they have skin in game.

I definitely had an averse reaction when she first showed up when my character was alone trying to enjoy her food. I was glad she was much more muted in the patch though in many places it was very obvious that she didn't even need to be there. Even for things like Gulool Ja, frankly Shale is a better choice. She has a rapport with him and has basically taken him under her wing and is the one actually treating him like family.

She will still be relevant until 7.4, even more now that we know were they are going with the MSQ.

And yes, I also gritted my teeth the second I realized she would be the first character to talk to the WoL.

But she wasn't overbearingly present this time, she was the amount she should have been during the 7.0 MSQ, a major character but not one overshadowing by far any other character (Koana and Gulool Ja are more important than her in this patch content).
We're not there yet when it comes to remaking WoL into a relevant character in the story, but like for WUk Lamat presence in the story, I don't think we can expect that before 7.4 (even if I think they are already beginning to tease our rivalry with the Preservation that I see becoming the new Ascians), but since it's the case in both Raid storyline (The Arcadion more than Va'nadiel), let's just say I will wait.

I expected as much since 7.1 was being developedbefore 7.0 was released. I hope she gets soft shelved like Lyse did in the following patches where they can change things around a bit more. I just don't think she's salvageable.

You know that a lot of these forum folks remind me of? The Lambs of Dalamud. In their eyes, their god has exploded, and now they're making it everyone else's problem. I can already hear "I don't think FFXIV is my god!" Really? 'Cause the sheer amount of rancor that appears on this board is usually only something I see when someone has their religion or politics questioned. So which one is it? I just still don't get people paying at least $15 a month on something that seems to bring them misery. Unless they're masochists (no judgement). They'll throw out every excuse. "I have friends here!" Yeah? We live in the era of discord and various other forms of instant video and audio communications. If they don't wanna talk to you anymore if you quit the game, then I'm sorry, those aren't friends. Those are co-workers. "I have a house!" Is that house really bringing you so much joy as to counteract all the misery you're experiencing? You realise that you can still appreciate a game as a whole while being able to criticize it right ? And that one of the roles of a forum is to be able to express those critics precisely ? And the fact that there is so much of them in all places (even Reddit who was plagged with toxic positivity at the beginning is, in majority, at very least disappointed in Dawntrail) mean something.
You are sick of seing them ? Just don't click on any topic that is obviously one where critics will be done.

I find the 7.0 MSQ subpar, Wuk Lamat being at the same time badly written and overpresent and I don't like having my WoL being relegated to being a cameraman. And I will express my disappointement until it's resolved and this patch was on the right direction for me.
Dawntrail is a 6.5/10 for me so far but the game as a whole is still one of my favorite game of all time, I just don't want it to have a succession of subpar storytelling when I know they can do good to very good ones.

People like you who are basically saying "if you don't like it, don't play it" are the same kind than those who say "Dawntrail is so bad I think the game will close tomorrow". The over-confident, moralizing boring kind.

Wuk isn't my fav character either but all this fan rage over a fictional character that will be irrelevant in a few patches is pointless and really not healthy, especially when certain folk want a character to get killed. if you don't like the character just skip the cutscene. Complaining about it on the forums isn't going to make Square undo months of work that has already been set in stone.

Someone else mentioned the localization team. Which I do have to agree on. Translations aren't always the best. So instead of looking at the devs, look at the localization team as well.

I mean, people enjoy discussing fictional stories and people often hope for unpopular/annoying characters to get killed off in books, film, television, comics, any media really. It's not all that serious or unhealthy.

To some degree I think so, like if we ignore the city is scaled down so it’s manageable to navigate for a video game, it shouldnt be that easy to bump into us like that. IDK the IRL size equivalent of Tulliyollal but I’m imagining as is the Mayor or a city was just walking around, decided to stop at Denny’s for lunch and ran into one of their employees that coincidentally they needed to talk to about work stuff.

But Tulliyollal does seem very walkable so maybe I should imagine it more like Wuk Lamat as Andy Griffith and Tulliyollal as Mayberry. Then running into people the way she does seems to be more believable IMO.

I don’t think sending a letter is cold, just practical. At minimum she does know we’re an Adventurer who likes to explore (part of why we turned down the job offer right?) so it just seems a little impractical, so maybe why not so both? I could kinda see her expectations of hoping to run into us if we were a Tulliyollal resident. But we’re not so IMO her first thought shouldnt be “Hope I run into WoL while I do my walkabout cuz I gotta bring up this event in Alexandria that’s happening in a few hours.”

I actually found her fairly tolerable this go-around since they seem to have at least shied away from making her constantly hog the screentime past when it's actually necessary.

The presence of the Scions still feels extremely superficial and frivolous, though.

No one forces you to keep going when it is not something you enjoy anymore in there and ruins your time.

Get away from it. Play other games. And then take a look inside it again after a longer break to see how it progressed.

Like I said, I still like this game and I still like playing it. I found Dawntrail MSQ subpar, not irrevocabily bad neither I think it "ruined" FFXIV, but I will talk about what I don't like in place you are supposed to.

Yes and no. I'm pretty sure the game is still doing well from economic view (july to september numbers should be out this month, which gonna give us info about that, be the real test will be october to december numbers, that we won't know before february).

But from a critical point of view, it's not. I mean, Yoshida had to admitted the mixed reception, and the forum are far from being the only place being very critical of Dawntrail. Both main subreddit (r/ffxiv and r/ffxiv discussions) are very critical about the state of FFXIV, and one of them has been know for years to be the place where you got downvoted to oblivion when dared slightly criticize the game (it's still the case for many subject, but about DT writing and the content drought, they're on the same page as the forum). So yeah, on the matter of DT writing and the content drought (I would also add the job complaints to that), the forum are pretty representative.

I doubt the game will be in financial problems before long, but critically, it took a heavy hit. A lot of players are unhappy and for a live service game, this is bad. when the part of your public that has been nealry permanently subbed for years, some even since 1.0 begin to leave, there is something wrong. A consequence of this bad critical status is that every major FFXIV streamer (yes streaming in a very important part of the gaming ecosystem today, it came make a game rise or fall) went to play other things (mostly wow) since the launch of DT , and they all have the same discourse "I love FFXIV, but there is nothing to do right now". The image of XIV is in a bad place, and image is really important to keep an influx of new players, especially since they don't seem to want to keep the old ones.

So is the game doing very well? No, I don't think so. It does well money wise (which is the only side SE seem to see) and is clearly not in danger, but I would not say it's doing well. I would add that MMO are a special kind of game that players are attached being for the social contact they had there, or the good time they spent in. People don't leave a game they've been playing for years on a whim. It's a long process. I mean the WoW exodus is a good example of that. How many years did players complains before leaving in mass because they finally had enough. I like the image of a dam. Right now the dam leaking, but has not broken yet. Most of unhappy players are still subbed, and still hoping for SE to get their shit together. But if nothing is done, the dam will break. maybe in a few month, maybe in a few years, but if nothing is done, it will happen.

Where on earth did I say that most people like the game? I said that the forums are a small group of loud peers shouting ad nauseam and feeding off of each other. No one is telling people who are neutral to quit the game. People who are coming on here saying they have no reason to play the game at all anymore but for some reason still want to subscribe to it instead of doing something that may actually invoke change are the people that are being told to quit.

spar with all combat and at same challange her ideals this was problem with Wuk Lamat and the WoL someone who been around world and back. if Square Enix really want make the WoL she or he would point the failure of her ideal and beleif.

my view is that gone forward expansion wise Squar enix should have scion of seven dawn focus large issue and Warrior of Light focus on something small like a reincation of sphene this would been still imprtant to story because The WoL would still had travel around land tried find sphene family if she had any evenualty it tied back into the main story called and yet the Scion would still need WoL to help move forward.

my ideal for expansion for after this one would called soulbringer. this focus on WoL gather the lost fragment of her or his soul but all while since these are soul in it self the source would be cause form Ascian and Venat to be reborn as so they get chance to explore

for example i away thought zero was the part of warrior of light soul for world of darkness.

the main character of the expansion appears in the main story. what a twist
