If she's surrounded by flattened characters, but still has to be present in every conversation, she could be the best character in the world and it wouldn't matter. While DT's new characters are genuinely interesting and vibrant, and I think she had good chemistry with them, Wuk Lamat has to stop to have a conversation with either the wol (who rarely speaks back) or the twins (who felt like cardboard cutouts the whole time) in nearly every quest. Wuk Lamat is a motivated character, but a lot of the characters that we expect better from around her were not, which hurt a lot of the scenes she was in. That made much of the dialogue repetitive and pointless. But making her a scapegoat is a reflex, and imo an unfair one. Taking Wuk Lamat out doesn't make DT a better story, because most of the things she had to interact with were uninteresting.
The writers were awkward and squeamish about including the Twins, Urianger, and to an extent even Krile into DT's story. Which is a shame, because they all had ways they could relate to each other-- the twins have their connection to Urianger that could have been compared to Wuk Lamat's connection to her siblings. Krile did get to share her thoughts on Galuf, in regards to being adopted-- but not even the fact that he died... I thought Thancred was well-implemented, because his content felt both specific to him as a character and progressive for his character. G'raha's unexpected reflection on the moral complexity of his actions as the exarch was a welcome surprise. But it was thin on the ground.
The point is, Yoshida is correct to not scapegoat his staff and story assets that they have invested time and money in. Instead it sounds like they're going to respond to feedback about the half-hearted scions and remain committed to their ideas. I feel like they have correctly identified the problem, but time will tell if they can win over players whose attention they lost. I'm not suggesting there's no problems with DTs story, but this constant whining about Wuk Lamat is just dumb and starting to get annoying.
