Viera hat compatibility is tied to hair styles

It was a combination of these things that felt as though the race was hastily put together with not much care and professionalism that led me to switch back to female Miqo'te.

Aesthetic in my character is very important to me when I play, and I felt like I just kept being repeatedly disappointed in what female Viera could have been.

SE can absolutely make hats work along with all of the hair options but that would cost a lot of money and they are rerouting money from XIV to other projects.

I am at the point where having a kickstarter style project if enough fans pay for a hair/hat package, then they could do the work and implement it asap.

Now do not get me wrong, I believe this should be done via the subscription or expansion purchase but we are at a point that if we want it bad enough, we should be able to pay for a priority project and get it done.

Fun fact, the value of our subscriptions has devalued by nearly 30% due to inflation since the price was set in 2013. If it were to be corrected for inflation, it would be 20.00 instead of 15.00

Same with Hrothgar, I wish we could have had cool Ronso feet.

They screwed themselves when they decided to add the graphics update on top of existing Viera and Hrothgar issues. Adjusting so much equipment, textures, etc for so many races is definitely time-consuming.

As someone who works with Blender, I can definitely say it's possible to adjust hairstyles. I don’t think hairstyles are the main reason Viera can’t wear hats. It’s more about designing multiple versions of hats to accommodate different sculpts and ears. I can’t imagine how they’d handle the workload if they introduced another race.
I mean, they already reuse a lot of old gear by just changing the color palette - which screams like "too much work".

A kickstarter..? Is this some kind of joke? Why should players bear the responsibility of their laziness? They could've easily shut this down as 'it's a design choice, sorry guys' but they keep dangling the promise of something so people can continue inhaling hopium that the small indie company will keep its promise.

So yes, let's give them the message 'you can deliver a sloppy half finished product and down the line we'll happily pay extra for it'. Perhaps people should hold these multimillion dollar companies to higher standards.

Claws sure, but the whole thing about Viera having bun feet is questionable to begin with.
Looking at any of the concept art and ingame screenshots of FFXII Viera they always wear heels of such length that even normal human feet would look like that.

I think the outrage of not being able to wear gloves and shoes outweighs your need to have classic Viera. I can't even imagine the forum threads if those races were locked out of 3 pieces of gear.

I honestly doubt this will ever get fixed, the longer the game goes on the bigger the backlog of items and hairstyles they would have to adjust gets.

Which is embarrassing to say the least and insulting ..not at worst, it really just is insulting.
at worst this would be incompetence and contempt for the players from the devs.

We're getting closer to having all existing hairstyles at this point (viera are, at least). Given that's what the lack of hats has been attributed to, and Yoshi-P has said they're working on adding hats to viera and hrothgar in the (probably distant) future, I'm personally mostly content waiting for that.

I do wish the team was better funded, though. I've gotten so used to hearing they just don't have the resources to do things at faster speeds and that's kind of insane to hear about a game that's supposed to be so important to Square Enix's bottom line.

1 year since that article and almost 6 years, more than half a decade, since the race came into existence.

We waited long enough. Their excuses are just bullshit.
Even if they sat one intern down to solve that issue it would take one intern wth a bit of knowledge of the issue half a year or less.
Modders can do it in less.

You can be angry. I'm not saying you can't. But I'm perfectly fine waiting, given we've been told it's coming. No biggie.

Yeah we've been told it's coming. Multiple times. Nothing to show to even fuel the hope it will come true though.
I anything the opposite, undermining any hope, with them designing hats in 2024 and 2025 that do not work on Viera and Hroth.

And you know it's gonna be cash shop so we'll have to pay for this bullshit if we cant it.

People need to stop apologizing for the devs when they keep lying and forgetting promises or saying something can't be done. Years upon years of people thinking its ok because of some arbitrary "spaghetti code" excuse, if viera hats aren't enough of a clue, they said they'd add retroactive pvp gear to vendors for trophy crystals 2 years ago, just adding itemid's to vendors is too hard for these guys but don't worry, they're trying their best apparently. Don't forget the time they said adding a checkmark on orchestrion rolls to see if you collected it was going to be too much server traffic as they said it would need to check back and forth constantly????, despite a plugin already tracking it locally. Lo and behold, time after this they pivot to doing it the way the plugin did. Until the game is back in a better place, stop deifying these devs, they need to hear the negative feedback and people need to stop making excuses for a company that's happy to take your money every month and put less and less effort in each patch cycle.

I hope you buns get your hats in the end but I wouldn't hold your breath and even if you do get them its still inexcusable at this point how long its taken, don't stop shouting about it until you get it.

If they can't fix this, they should at least give us the option to hide Viera ears while wearing a hat. It might look silly, but it's probably the best option.

The ears aren't the problem. As far as I know, the problem is the missing hairstyle variation for hats and that Viera have a different headshape than other races. So hats are often not fitting and hair is not squishing.

I have no clue why they did it this way.

This is still no excuse really. Create the hair variations, adjust the hats to fit the head shape (like they do for literally every other race except hrothgar who are in the same boat as us) and let the ears clip. I don't think anyone cares about clipping at this point. We just want hats. I don't understand why they just straight up ignore this complaint for half a decade now.

I wish they would just adjust the heads and remove the offending hairstyles... or rework the hairstyles or SOMETHING. It makes more sense to me than adjusting all of the head gear.

If they removed the offending hairstyles you would all be bald, because not a single hairstyle for Viera has functioning shapekeys to make them fit hats. Yes, not even the hairstyles that work perfectly fine on every other race.

The 7.0 onward hair has shape keys on all but viera and hroth WHICH IS DELIBERATE AND AN ASSHOLE MOVE.

Just female have a different head style too... when they announced the males they said they have a more standard head shape that could allow for hats, but yet even the male toons can't wear them. I can see why they would hold off on male hats if they are possible to avoid the firestorm of "why can he wear hats but I can't?" but still really frustrating

Doubly so when there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to which hats/hoods do and don't work. Like I can wear the scouting hood from the Nier raids, but I can't wear the scouting hood from Bozja.

They really should've fixed this instead of re-writing old sidequests.

I love the "unique head shape" excuse when we've literally always had lalafell.

Their head is also completely different shaped. :x

Vieras were designed badly on purpose so the furries who shouldn't even be playable wouldn't cry bloody murder and oppression, and now more helmets work on them than on vieras making it all the funnier. There was actually no reason to design vieras this badly when they could have worked exactly like miqotes. They are never fixing them, they're supposed to be bad.
