Absolutely More New Races Please

I'm not opposed to them adding more races, but id rather they both finish viera and hrothgar and expand/update character customization in general first.

I rather the current races get more options added to them and the newest races get their broken promises kept, where are my viera exclusive hairstyles I was promised in SHB?

Female hrothgar suffer from a litany of issues that need addressed. Not to mention the elephant in the room about viera and hroth hats. Hell even miqo hats are often removing their ears.

We have a good variety of races and for 8.0 I want to see an overhaul of the character creator that gives more faces, more lips, more hair more EVERYTHINGGGG.

i'd rather have more subraces

hyurezen (like hilda)
garlean hyur & elezen
nymian lalafell (maybe give them a tonberry tail)
othardian roegadyn
highlander subrace that gives them eyebrows

dont know what they could do for miqote, aura, viera,or hrothgar though. maybe miqote could have a 3rd subrace that gives them suncat eyes and mooncat fangs?

It’s not that we can’t have both. It’s that there’s a proper order to things.

Honestly, some of the suggestions in this thread have swayed me somewhat. A new race could be nice, maybe a short race this time.

Ultimately, though, I stand by my previous position that current races need to be finished, and gear needs to start properly displaying racial traits again (or displaying…at all), before we get more races. I say this because the unfortunate state of current races suggests that we already have more races than the devs are able, or willing, to manage properly. This is a problem for players of current races, but it will be a much bigger problem for the players of whatever new race(s) they add, as it has been for viera and hrothgar.

The more the game moves away from a humanoid or specifically human-like races, the more these issues will occur, so if you want more races, then expect them to be more human-like, like Garlean but your a special snowflake who can use magic, or half Garlean, or Half any race mixed with hyur for that matter to explain away your ability to do X and look like Y, assuming Hrothgar can even reproduce outside their species, as they are the most far from human-like the game has gotten so far in player races, and no I do not want an option for the Mamoolja

The existing races need to be completed before any new races are introduced. It's awful that hrothgar and viera have remained half done for years now.

They should have been finished while FFXIV was undergoing its the graphics overhaul. Obviously, they were not.

At this point, I feel it's highly unlikely Square Enix is willing to put in the effort to required to add a new race.

I echo the sentiments that they need to get the existing races fully functional before they try anything else, though.

Given that female Hrothgar and male Viera were kinda added under sufferance, I feel new races are very unlikely.

Plus given that 14 is a game that is design and expects you to do everything with one main, it really, IMHO, lessens the value of new races (I've played alts in 14 a few times but it always feels like a waste to level an alt when I could do it on my main instead).

If it wasn't for the fact they needed to finish female hrothgar, then DawnTrail and the FF# title and things associated being brought over to 14 would've been the clear point and time to add Burmecians. Even then, it would still be nice to see Burmecians in the future.

If we ever went back to Hingashi, some small Tanuki-like race would would be fun as an original option. But we'll see in the future.

I'd rather have more character creation options on the existing races. Especially since any new ones we get are likely to be half baked like Hrothgar and Viera

I've said this before but as these threads keep popping up I guess I may as well repeat it.
More options are always a good thing even if one chooses not to pick them. They absolutely should explore the notion of more new races, eventually.
They should, however, stop trying to churn out a new race to go with every expansion release, that just gets us more limited races and nobody should seriously be wanting a repeat of the train wreck that Hrothgar and Viera still are to this day.

What they should be doing now, especially after the mixed reception the graphic update got in regards to character looks, is work on making good on the debt they owe existing races.
This includes fixing Hrothgar and Viera and also things like expanded character creation options for older races. There's a whole laundry list of reasonable additions the community wants from things as old as highlander eyebrows to new entries like the new neon NPC haircolors.
And inexplicably that debt just keeps growing. Now that the dust on the graphic update has settled and some faces ended up with demonstrably changed models in its course bringing the old models of those faces, or as close as possible, back as additional faces is the one shot they have at reconciling affected users. Giving the artifact gear of all things the Hyur treatment for all races that are allowed to use headwear is not a great look either.

Once. or at this point rather if, they make all the races we have now feature complete I'm all for them working on adding new ones, especially if those are just going to reuse existing models and skeletons with an added gimmick that doesn't require them to remodel all the gear in the game again. Provided that they've learned their lesson and don't announce the new race well before it's done, rush out a half-assed incomplete version of it to meet deadlines and then take decades to maybe bring it towards a semblance of completion.
I'll be fine if we don't see a new race until 11.0 but if they announce a new one for 8.0 just to tick a stupid, expected box when it's clear there's no way they can even complete the ones we already have until then I'm headed for the shed to grab my pitchfork.
