Controller player here no issues with playing Viper.
I adamantly disagree with combining Twinblood and Twinfang into Serpent's Tail. The absolute last thing Viper needs is fewer buttons to press.
Viper is completly fine in my opinion. I like how the entire Rotation flows into itself. I have no idea what you are on about on controller with the layout. I have all of my attakck buttons on Y, X ,A and B (XBox Style) i just have to switch with the triggers. The positionals are also very clearly marked and the Class even guides you through it all. IF anything i want the class to have me use a bit more brain, because right now it kinda feels empty.
Viper is completely fine on controller. If anything its amazing on controller because after a few hours of playing it, muscle memory kicks in to where I dont even have to look at the hotbar.
I think the majority of complaints are people who have less than 12 hours playing the job and the biggest hurdle for probably alot of players is figuring out what buttons fit where on the hotbar that actually feel good but that is the same with any new job but probably moreso with viper because of the large amount of OGCDs.
Please don’t look at this post Devs. I’ve never meshed as well with a class as I have with viper. I haven’t had an issue with this class and it’s the only class I’ve been like “ I do not feel like playing any other class” because something felt off. It isn’t in a place where you need to change anything. If there was ever a time for a dev to read little ol me’s comment, This is the time!
I don't have any issues with my keybinds on keyboard/mouse and don't have serpent's tail bound to C. I have no idea what kinda keybinds you have going on there, I only use my thumb to jump when I'm messing around and I can comfortably hit all the buttons with my index, middle, and ring fingers.
The only kind of weird thing I might have to do is on every job I have aoes bound to ctrl + some button because I don't ever need them and there's usually a single target version of the aoe skill. So those are all the same on viper or not. Tbh almost all of my melee are using similar binds to each other even with me using viper. In these cases i'll hit ctrl with my pinky.
I think one thing you'll need to understand is that there are good practices in terms of setting up keybinds but, what's best for you isn't something someone else might ever use. Like I said I personally don't ever hit a single button with my thumb, I never have had to in any game ever. It's really weird to me you thought specific binds absolutely had to be done. There's no one best way to keybind anything really.
The most we could argue is that steel fangs is made to be left adjacent to dread fangs which is meant to be right. They should add an option to switch the job gauge for those two skill combos. That's really it. They don't need to consolidate anything.
I admit consolidating both into Serpent's Tail was a bit much (I was thinking of conserving the double weave but didn't consider the button roll and I didn't want to change the OP), but I really do think the reverse (Twinblood and Twinfang both acting as Serpent's Tail) would open up a lot more ways to customize the bars currently. I'm not denying that Viper is easy, it's just more cumbersome than other jobs. Yes I have all the abilities bound to the face buttons on shoulder button holds so that every single combo flows into a L2+R2 hold for Twinblood/Twinfang/Serpent's Tail without needing to stop movement, but that's essentially adding extra button presses to each combo which again, makes it more busy than it actually should be.
Keybinds on viper have been completely fine with me, no idea how you arrived at such a wrong answer. Please let the job have buttons to press so that people who just like pressing buttons have an option.
BTW there are ways to sidestep most of these kind of conflicts between being able to press movement keys and abilities.
One is to use a mmo mouse (which i can't because getting a left handed one is a pain).
The other is to use a "normal" gaming mouse with a couple of side buttons. You can bind left/right strafe to those, jumping on the middle button, and the game makes you move forward out of the bow of you click lmb+rmb. This way you can do all the movement with the mouse and your other hand is free to reach any key on the keyboard at the same time.
I've played mmos with that setup for 15 years and it's so comfy I can't imagine doing it differently

This is my hotbar setup for viper. Only up to level 90 (for the story) because I don't plan to take it to 100
1 to 5 is Dreadwinder. I would just go 1 - 2 (3 4) - 5 (4 3). Alt 1 to Alt 5 is the AoE version. Uncoiled fury is -, Serpent's coil is Ctrl 1, Slither is Ctrl 2.
6 7 is the single target Dread/Steel Fangs, 9 0 is the AoE. 8 is serpent's tail, nicely located in between the single target and AoE.
No problem on keyboard and... no problem with controller as well, and I barely play with a controller.
A you problem as always.
Seek for a solution to proprely bind your shortcut and train on a dummy.
And if you don't like the business/button mash gameplay, Viper is not for you.
Next.
playing controller, can't say I have any issue but also know it could be better tbh
Here's the link to my hotbar setup, feel free to tell me if there's anything wrong
Here's my layout so far (subject to change if job gets simplified)

Is it just new job feel for it being busy for you? Or is this similar with Samurai and Monk? I know on the first day of early access, I thought pictomancer felt very busy and confusing for me, then after a week, I go do a roulette with it and am like "Oh, this is very manageable."
The biggest thing that makes me salty about this is that the Awakening GCDs gets put on my bars in the order "1432" instead of the clearly intended 1234 because of what was comfortable for me. Surely there was a better way of designing this class' button organization than "bend over backwards to figure out hotbars that work at 80 because it's so bloated, then find out at 90 that apparently my buttons do not match what the guy at SE's office thought they should be."
And that's without using gamepad...

Viper is super easy for me.
Most of the time, i use normal keys for single target and Shift+Key for the AoE Equivalent.
Main Combos are on 3 and 4, Q,E and R for the Cooldown Combos. I placed the oGCDs on 1, 2 and Mouse Wheel + Shift for easier use depending on AoE or Single Target. The Awakening Skills turn into 3,4,E,R which is quite handy.
I also had to duplicate the OGCD weaves multiple times next to their GCD triggers as well else it's just a nightmare. Makes it much better, although at the coast of some hotbar bloat.
