Its not about not liking that same sex couples get married, its about discrimination, throwing stuff at there head, its about making jokes throwing insults and so on this is homophobic or lets say a part of it. There are people which are normal like anyone of us let them do what they do its fine.

Pretty sure most people are only doing this because it's an effective catch-all for the grand bulk of venues/free company spam and not for malicious reasons.

If anything, this shows why a 10 word limit was a mistake because people now have to optimize their filters and unfortunately that leads to unintentional side effects. It's much akin to how some people are also going to filter "gil" "gold" and "music" even knowing it's going to snag normal chat that has nothing to do with RMT or clubs.

To be fair calling yourself "normal" as a direct contrast to being same-sex attracted (or "homo centric") is pretty homophobic. Being same-sex attracted is not abnormal. And no, don't even try to pull the "oh but the majority is heterosexual, it's the norm in terms of numbers I'm referring to". It's very clear how you used the common linguistic trope of "I'm not x, I'm normal" in your last statement.

Music can be swapped with DJ or DJs. Should have the same effect without blocking music in general if you want a more specific alternative.

To filter < LGBTQ+ > does not filters "clubs": a FC or a static could ask to be "LGTBQ+ friendly" and this POLITE request will be filtered.

To filter that acronym is a clear intolerance, because if the problem is "CLUB", you filter "CLUB", not "LGTBQ+".

As Nightclubs, Static Recruitment, Arabic/Spanish, rp, contest, I have no interest in that so I will filter them as I'll filter lgbt

I genuinely cannot comprehend why that is even needed for an advertisement in the first place. Wouldn't that be assumed? It's like the most superfluous thing to tack on in a static recruitment ad. You people afraid if you don't tack that on there that you'll get a bunch of hatemongers cussing left and right about the LGBT's or something?

No, that's not the case. Once again (unfortunately I feel obliged to specify, because now it's very easy to be accused of intolerance): I'm a member of this community, and it's a tag I've really thought about blocking. Is it because I have internalised biphobia? Not at all. "LGBT" just allows me to avoid a wider range of ads that don't suit me.

intolerance is in people, whether they are on a videogame or in a senate or in a club it doesn't matter.

You think this is the game where you absolutely must add onto every recruitment possible that they need to be LGBT friendly and that this might not be overdoing it a little? Your fear is unwarranted, I believe. Just don't add terms that are used in advertisment spam and you won't get filtered, people that care about it won't filter it anyway so you won't miss your targetted people anyway, just the ones that feel like that's not a message meant for them.

I’m not political or anything - I don’t vote nor will I ever - but I assumed this was a natural fact.

Yeah I personally witnessed multiple people sharing their "lists" in a popular FFXIV discord server, and all of them were pretty much what you'd expect from the average FFXIV player.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to cancel my pre-order if the developers don't implement any protection for vulnerable LGBTQIA2S+ folx. Wish they could take a page out of the book of World of Warcraft developers in that regard.

ps: If you are part of that 10k+ member discord server I mentioned do not visit the channel "summoner lounge". The kind of disgusting, dehumanizing drivel being posted there makes my skin crawl.

Far as I am concerned, people can use the filter for whatever means they want. If they want to filter "ham sandwich," they can. Nobody needs to justify why they're filtering a term. Their video game experience is theirs to curate.

My intolerance of daring to filter the word LGBT so that I don't get recruitment messages not meant for me or I don't care about anyway? I stated before in the thread why people would filter it, or I would anyway, as have others. Posts like yours aren't very convincing to do otherwise.

Closing doors would be if they barred LGBT, them choosing not to get certain spam isn't the same as that. There's no hiding behind a finger called freedom as you say, I have not even mentioned the word. You have.

I will block the words or phrases that appear in RP venue /shout messages so if blocking "LGBT" gets rid of most of them, then maybe that's on you. Act like a weed, get the weedkiller.

It's a new feature and people can put whatever they want into the filter.

I don't want to see real world crap in my game chat. Not politics, not Gil Sellers, not Alt-Left, not Alt-Right, not anything that ruins the experience of just having "FUN" in a game I pay money for entertainment.

People who are not looking for a static or an fc don't need to see those ads. Any in-game polite conversation between members of an existing static or fc happens in /fc, /p, /cwls or /ls and none of those channels can be filtered with the new Term Filter feature.

There is no excuse to start accusing people of intolerance. This filter is just a useful tool for blocking ads when you're not the target audience or blocking disruptive sociopolitical commentary that doesn't belong in public channels such as /sh or /s.

While we are at it, lets put tape on everyone's eyelids to keep them open, and force them to watch whatever you want them to watch (not exclusively related to LGBT).

I'm not going to use it to filter anything (for now), but people should be free to use the chat filter however they want. It doesn't affect you ¡n any way or sense, so I don't know why you care. What's next? Prevent folks from also blocking *you* because you're feeling special?

Smells like bait, but I'll bite.

You don't have to understand why other players want to filter certain words and phrases. There will always be people who don't agree with or support your values, either through passive or active means.

Filtering out speech isn't itself a harm, or Square would not have implemented the feature. If you value the ability to associate with like-minded players, you should also be able to respect the opinions and choices of others when they aren't leading to direct harms or abuses.

Can't we just play the game and keep the RL stuff out of it?

The servers haven't even opened up yet...why are we already worrying about what people personally censor out?

With the way things are going I would not be surprised if people start advertising this MMO as a single player game. No say chat. No other players on their screen. Just you and the NPCs.

If someone wants to be a bigot, isn't it best they self-filter and not interact with you?

There is no need to interact with such people, and not sure why you care if they filter out messages for your club or FC. You don't want them there anyway.

Honestly is it stupid sure, But admittedly some people do over reach with it and I won't use it all, for um reasons no-one shall know ever cuz i am a vampire princess and i cant have people thinking i'm cute when i am demonic and evil and chaos by nature i am a creature of the night to be feared can't have that being ruined by letting out that one to be seen.. regardless I won't use the filter outside of religions and political people (ya i've come across those) and they set me off rlly bad due to past things because of that secret.. which sets me off.

Anyways, filtering it out in some cases makes it safer for people honestly so they don't set them off which is near impossible to deal with when you're struggling with hormonal stuff +episodes outside your control so honestly I think it's better for everyone if they filter it.

However at the end its their personal choice can't force everyone to agree and believe w/e we want them to * although I really really really wish i could..... so I could have my paradise but sadly it doesn't work and just makes you more and more upset which tends to go badly in my experience when you're hormonal and going through episodes...

I take everything seriouse because personally I go back and look over past things ive talked about cry/and get upset over them wishing it would have gone better that i was better with wording to explain my desire, but if your seriouse op just say screw it on this enforcing them not to do this will only be harmfull to self.. Relax and find a way to not let it bother you, I been working on it myself. I just tell myself personally be a good girl so my vampire prince will kidnap me and take to paradise were we cuddle in the coffin and my trueself playfull hyper clingy little vamp <3 always have graveyard youtube vids playing/listening audio books just shrug off all w/e
