The servers are online and working. Not everyone is being disconnected at the same time. Some of the Crystal S rank spawners are turning it into a game to see how long it takes to kill our S ranks with the constant DCs but they are getting them killed (even if it takes 53 minutes after a spawn).

I'm fairly stable if I cross region travel to Materia. The disconnects are much less frequent there. Trying to remain online on Crystal is annoying.

I doubt they can change the maintenance schedule this late.

We have the option to not log in if the constant disconnects are bothering us. Most members in my FCs have decided to play other games today since I warned them about the problem in the FC Discords.

Raced home from work, hit the 4:40pm eastern Phallaina window... snagged one by a miracle... then 90k'd ... tried to log in, got in, 90k'd again... figured it was a ddos attack *sigh* ... just hope it's fixed by 7:00pm eastern because Siddy's hungry ...

I know this is just a Titanman thread, but I'll still bite and give a simple explanation. SE needs to have their network security engineers configure their firewall/IPS to drop the packets that are inbound from the sources of the DDOS attack. It's gonna be up to them to find a common signature of the DDOS packets so they can create a new firewall/IPS rule that can ID (true positive) and drop the packets, but at the same time they need to be careful as to not create a rule that drops legitimate inbound network traffic (false positive).

I'm not going to go further into the intricacies of it, so google and youtube will be your best tool for finding a more detailed explanation.

Amazon and Microsoft have been brought down by ddos attacks. No one is safe and anyone who thinks otherwise doesn't understand how internet infrastructure or ddos attacks work.

Every company who provides internet based services can be DDoS'ed. There was a MAJOR one in October last year over Cloudfare, Amazon and Google, they handled it like champs and it was barely noticeable by the common user. This kind of attack is very common...

Most of the time, SE handles it like a champ and we barely notice it (this has been happening for years to this game and we don't normally notice). The attackers just found a way to make it noticed this time.

I'm sure about that. As I said before, this kind of attacks are very common, there must be something different this time that wasn't detected by the IPS/firewall and jumped through the ruleset. I really don't want to be on that SOC today xD

You mean the server that was sending death threats and organizing lynching when SE did SAM changes? That server you talk about? Forums are usually much more unfriendly than the actual player base ingame. Most forums have also good and bad apples. Its pretty normal.


That being said on the DDOS - I feel that US has it much worse than EU. I barely had 5-6 dc in 4 hours in EU, on US its like every 5 minutes. Dont really know why.

Guess I Picked a good day to do something else. :(

It seems like every year or 2 we go through this. Better now than at launch though.

I logged in a couple times here and there through the day, and each time I was able to stay on for a little longer. Seems progress is being made but most of the staff in bed still so it's a write off til tomorrow.

Can confirm it's still happening as of this post.

My record was 22 minutes before dc'ing! XD

It’s been a long long while since we’ve had a DDOS attack last this long, 9 times out of 10 they just log us all out once or twice then disappear

With DDOS going on all day and a forced maintenance later on we basically just lose one day of sub time. Awesome

It's basically a bunch of script kiddies who think DDOSing makes them "hackers". They're just annoying, but they pose very little threat. The only thing they're capable of doing is forcing a server offline. A temporary disruption of service. They're the chihuahuas of the hacker world. Lots of bark, and the best they can do is nip at your ankles.

Cyber attacks are commonly-used by the Lalafell Menace's Hacker Corps as a means of waging electronic warfare, citizens. Don't be fooled by their seemingly innocent demeanor. They are surprisingly belligerent even in cyberspace.

I think that (in regards to taxes) every time they are doing roadworks, and I gotta detour round it.

Why can't they just trace back to where all the massive DDOS logins are coming from. There should be a way to trace where they come from.
