I wound up purchasing Crysta with Paypal, that method worked fine, but it should never have come to that. How something like this occurs with an expansion looming, and with the biggest MMO out there about to release their own expansion is truly baffling. If a company doesn't want your money people, move on, because if a company wanted your money bad enough, this wouldn't have persisted as long as it has.
...still no resolution; tickets been "escalated". This isn't looking good, even popular streamers of the game are having issue and not getting any help.
HOLY CRAP!
Square finally let me give them money. PayPal payment for Crysta was a success! Worked using Opera.
Don't know if it's a permanent fix. So if you got PayPal I HIGHLY recommend stocking up on Crysta and changing your sub payment method to Crysta just in case it breaks again.
Things I did this time:
I 'new tabbed' the "Add Crysta" link instead of just going to that page. No clue if having the MogStation page still up made a difference or not. But it's the only thing I did differently this try.
EDIT: Also, I'd suggest switch to the 'Standard' if you're on 'Entry'. This is because Game Time Cards cannot be applied to 'Entry' type accounts.
Ultimately I wound up buying a game time card and accepting that I just don't have my extra two retainers til the issue is fixed, but that was after transferring money from my bank for several failed attempts at buying Crysta despite using recommended workarounds, which took 8 days just for the funds to arrive in my paypal account, and finding out that both of the online purchase options for paysafecard require methods of verification that they may refuse (photo ID for one, phone recording for the other).
Anyhow, if any other Canadians are dealing with this, NewEgg's Canadian site will deliver you a 60 day game time card to your email in under an hour for $36 CAD. Yes, you'll lose any additional retainers while using game time cards, but if you want to be able to play DT and access your housing and characters, it's probably the least stressful route available to us since AmazonPay is not available in Canada.
Hopefully this clears up by October. I'm screwed if it doesn't.
that's actual fucking trash, this company is a fucking joke. "BUT WE LOVE OUR COMMUNITY THATS WHY WE HAVE YOSHI.DUNCECAP COME ON STAGE AND CRY AND WHINE BUT WE WONT EVEN LET YOU PAY FOR OR PLAY OUR GAME, WE'LL HAVE OUR TRASH FUCKING WEBSITE IN JAPANESE EVEN THOUGH MAJORITY OF OUR PLAYERBASE IS NOT JAPANESE AND IGNORE ALL ATUAL FEEDBACK AND CRITICISM AND BAN PEOPLE THAT SAY BAD WORDS OR HURT THE THE OVERLY SENSISTIVE MANCHILDREN'S FEELINGS!"
that's fucking disgusting, they cant be used on entry accounts? "NOPE IF YOU WANNA PLAY OUR GAME YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR 8 CHARACTER SLOTS AT 4 DOLLARS MORE A MONTH BECAUSE MY DUMB ASS SAID SO!"
Phew, an update!

Following the successful testing of our adjustments, we have finalized the date for the fix that will enable Visa Debit cards to be used as a payment method in our online services (Square Enix Account Management, Mog Station, FINAL FANTASY XIV Online Store). We will be implementing the fix on Tuesday, July 23, after a brief maintenance period.
In the meantime, users who only have Visa Debit cards can utilize other payment options, such as Crysta (which can be purchased via Amazon Pay or PayPal) and Amazon Pay (for Online Store purchases). Game time codes are also available and can be purchased from various online retailers, including the Square Enix Store.
We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience this issue has caused and appreciate your patience while we worked to address it.
Yep. Whoever hired this new payment processor needs to be fired, and they need to hire a processor that can do its job outside Japan. My SO has to either buy timecards in another currency or else lose their account because they can't change their country on the account they made over 10 years ago. None of this is okay and sadly I also expect for none of these issues to be addressed. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
So its september. Trying to buy something thats on sale.
STILL A PROBLEM
Updated my payment details with my new Visa debit card (my old one expired) on the SE Account system, and it worked perfectly (it didn't even ask to clarify my billing address, but that hasn't changed in years and I've never moved to another country so that probably helps). Tried making a purchase on the FFXIV Online Store... and apart from a glitch with the GAPCHA security thing not showing up which needed to be clicked before it went through (turns out it was security script addons in Firefox blocking it, which was quickly fixed)... and lo and behold, it worked.
So I assume those that are still having issues are those that either have moved to different countries/regions from the one where they originally created the account (like, US to Europe etc), or those that are in a country that the new payment vendor has decided not to support (such as many Middle Eastern and Asian countries) sadly, of which there doesn't seem to be much that can be done to overcome that sadly.
Uhh yeah no. I live in the US, havent moved for over 20 years, and have tried VISA, Amex, and mastercard on both firefox and chrome.
No, this is an issue of SE.
Running into this problem after my card expired and I try to go and update it. Cannot update it. Almost 2025 and still a problem...
