What is the point of having BiS

For some reason I allways notice this community's unhealthy obsession with pushing BIS. And I don't see why. Unless ur doing savages, criterion, ultimates or flexing... there simply is no real reason to chase this. I feel the drive for bis and the push for bis has allways been a way to ignore the fact the game has very little endgame content

Only BiS I focus on is DoL/H and pentameld it.

For DoM/W I usually make myself the highest crafted version, I don't even run experts cause the gear is useless for me.
The only time this expansion I focused on Lv90/Expert roulette was for the relic, once.

My thought is, unless you're doing savages and high-end raids, don't bother getting BiS. But, if you want it, you do you. We're not paying for your sub.

As a non-raider, I've only had two reasons to obtain BiS.
1. To have and edge for duties with a silenced echo, but I actually still don't care about this.
2. Dyeable. Oddly enough I care more about this.

I wonder if the Op did it now now or got it at the release and just had a bad time with pfs n getting gear til now. As at launch easy to clear is a small amount of people mind set. But post unlocks most raiders already have all their gear and hopefully strategies have been refined and people aren't trying to go with week 1 strats. Where yeah you're going to have an easier time.

I don't really care about BIS myself, but I do like to improve my gear as much as possible just for fun and to clear things I grind faster. Getting a 94K hit as a dancer is very nice when it happens, and I don't have BIS. If you care about grinding gear for more than one class on repeatable content, being able to help a run go more smoothly is nice.

Like, what's the point of anything, man?

It's a game, the point is playing the game, if you only play to get BiS then you're done playing the game until new BiS comes out, there's not much else to say.

Take a break, no one minds if you drop sub until Dawntrail releases, it's fine.

I don't know. That depends on your interests and what you've already done in game.

Personally, I don't bother getting BiS because it doesn't offer me a meaningful advantage in the content I do and it will always end up replaced when new content with new gear is released. I've never understood the obsession that so many players have with obtaining BiS.

Reel endgame.

That is why I stopped playing after killing P12S.

There is nothing in the game left that would give me fresh experience compared to using that time to play other games.

Now that I have a house that I painstakingly decorated I have to keep sub going and log in every month to go inside it. :mad:

BiS is irrelevant in a game where the next expansions gear outstrips what took you weeks to obtain. The content is what's worth it. Unfortunately, and it's like this in every game, players want to optimize everything and meta all the fun out of it. So people chase BiS instead of playing the game. And unfortunately there's not many games that can facilitate this without player gatekeeping. Hence, the need for BiS.

I just wish we had a better system, but here we are.

Make pointless thread on the forums whining about how you farmed BiS in a savage tier not followed by an ultimate, about 2 months before the next expansion. Oh wait...

You run it again, and then you go find some forum where you can complain that the game is not as fun the 21st time you run it as the first time, and that something needs to be done!

BIS is for one of a few things:

• When content is brand new
• When you want to plow through old content
• When you don't want to go to the next expansion
• When you want to do reclears for friends or for other folks
• When you are a completionist and feel the need to complete it all
• When you are free trial and this gear is the best you'll get for a long while
• When you want to simply afk in Limsa to show off what you have accomplished
