Sounds like your friend either got
A) Falsely Reported
B) Tripped something on the GM's end that would detect behavior like a bot, even if they are not
C) Was botting but still able to chat as normal
Unless proven otherwise, I am going to personally guess B. As it is possible for software to detect and false flag someone for behavior that is bot-like. Which would usually be caused by players who don't take breaks for several hours at a time and and are performing the same activity repeatedly. As that is how other games use as just one method to detect for botting.

Well damn if this many ppl vouching for op. Either these are alts or everyone agrees this is wron either way thats pretty messed up how u get banned for doing spawnning..... but maybe were not being told everything.....

One way to get banned is by repeatedly claiming so many mobs that it prevents other players from completing objectives, such as daily hunts. I'm not saying it is right. But, IF this player was killing so many mobs to spawn that S rank and in the process was preventing other players from doing other duties/quests/etc in that zone... and it happened often enough... I could see a ban happening.
Linking it to botting though is sort of weird. Unless they were botting. I don't think SE bans for botting unless it was botting. Considering how many flagrant bots are out there, it makes me wonder if whatever they were doing just looked enough like botting - maybe they ignored GM tells. I don't know.
