I would gladly forgo an entire expansion or two just for this kind of coding stuff to be redone, because this is the same issue as people asking for a glamour catalogue and being told it legit can't be done to our regret because of coding limitations

Idk what to tell you about having everything at a bunch of different levels but probably should get everything on the low end to the same point and then level up from there while sharing gear and collecting your higher level classes as you go on.

This is a decent point and while it doesn't apply to you, OP, it could be an effect of adding this sort of thing to the game. And as someone else mentioned, even if they did implement this, it would not be for some time. If you're getting frustrated now, then maybe there some suggestions we can give here to help so you don't lose your interest in the game because of it.

Something that helped me when I was working on leveling different roles was to take a night specifically for obtaining the next set of gear I would need or at lower levels sometimes the next couple of sets. Then I would store it and only have to retrieve it once I reached that point. This could have been crafted gear, tome gear, dungeon gear, etc. Whatever I was going to need at that next point. Then I could focus on the days where I played on playing. I'm not sure how much extra time you have for this or if you and your friend would want to dedicate a night for it. But it could ease some of the frustration since the nights that you want to progress, you can just progress. And it could be something fun to do together, either running dungeons together or crafting together with each of you making pieces for the crafts. If space is an issue, remember you can always stick things in your glamour chest and pull them out when you need them.

Oh, and since you mentioned some difficulty with figuring out what you need for crafting, I'm not sure if you've ever looked at this or were aware of it, but there's a option on items in your books called "Recipe Tree". This shows you exactly what you will need to craft a given item and can be very useful when gathering materials. There's a "Raw Materials" button on that screen, which will bring up a window with a nice list. And an option to only display materials with insufficient stock. And now that I'm looking there's also a "Raw Materials List" option on the item as well so you can just go directly to that.

i do appreciate your suggestions, though, and especially the tone of it. it's just that at the time we wanted to just pick up actually playing the game coming back into our sub after months of a break versus playing gear catch-up for more then 30 minutes, especially when some people do have limited time to play. i ended up wasting even more time by taking time to shuffle our crafting materials around to stack together and we have baby friends who want help too with their gear and asdgkdfsg.

there are some classes we reeeeallly hate playing but want to level eventually because now the game rewards you for leveling *everything* to...80? so some are very much lacking - and also around 50+ the leveling does get slower but the need for that useful higher lvl gear remains, you know? it just sucks to have to acquire the same set of tomestone gear like 5 times if the gear space is an issue for the player, which happens :melting:

i'm able to cope, my friend can cope but with frustration, but...it'd be a nice feature to have at some point i think. for those who would use it. you know?

I think gearing is the problem, there's many easy ways to meet certain item level thresholds when playing the MSQ or levelling additional jobs. The only system I'd like to see taken from the heirloom system in WoW, at least before Blizzard changed it during WoW's levelling rework, was the increased XP gains. Levelling extra jobs is tiring and boring. There's only so many times I want to spam 5x of that levels dungeon before moving onto the next plus this problem will only get worse with each expansion as they're insistent on adding 2 new jobs.

tomestones sure but it's still kinda :( you know....just...a lot of resources and time spent just so you can pick up where you left off and start leveling again only for so long before having to do it all over again, and thats just for the one alt job

Take off your gear so you only get arr dungeons in roulette? Then you don't have to upgrade your gears. It doesn't work anymore on alliance raid, but still works on leveling roulette and 50607080

This would be an absolutely AWFUL idea. If you level via POTD/HoH your gear does not matter, if you level via dungeons you are guanteed a drop every dungeon at the end to complete a set, if you level via FATEs the gear is capped to the fate so you can simply go from tome set to tome set, if that isn't enough crafted gear is VERY VERY easy to get and even craft yourself. Heirloom gear is in wow because wow gearing is awful and you level so fast your old gear is pointless very quickly. FF14 does not have that problem. Them x0 tome gear is fine until x5 in dungeons and fine in open world content until the next tome set.

sorry, this is not my experience at all. you may not have had the issue and that's honestly fucking great for you, but i have, repeatedly, as well as others i've talked to. potd/hoh is great when you have the patience for it and have the time. but it's also time-consuming and monotonous and i don't always want to resort to that method of leveling for every level and class. if your gear sucks ass too hard doing FATEs you'll probably struggle, especially if no one else comes to help and you're trying to solo it. chocobos can help, yes, but accidents can also happen and dying because you didn't update your gear is frustrating. doing dungeons at the bare minimum is a burden on your party, especially if you're tanking or healing and can't keep up because of it, and you may only get one or two pieces of gear from that run to use until the next time, and by then maybe those four pieces aren't enough for the next set of levels because yes you can level pretty quickly and what drops is entirely based on RNG so maybe your best piece is what gets replaced whereas the worst is still there. crafting your own gear, in my experience which i have already explained, has NOT been "very very easy" as it's time-consuming to get the materials which take up a lot of space and time, not to mention teleporting everywhere to gather things, some of which are on timed nodes. buying gear either from vendors or the market board adds up a lot gil very quickly which some people may not have when you have to keep buying it because you can't keep it because hoarding it for when you can use it later on other jobs takes up limited space, and the same applies to buying tomestone gear, which is in a similar but different boat; you can get more pieces with the tomestone assuming you start with some and don't have to stop and spend *more* time than it feels worth farming just for a few levels worth of gear.

yes, it can be done. it is literally what's being done now, a variety of these options regardless. HOWEVER, it is not fun gameplay either way, adds nothing to the experience you've already done, and you constantly have to stop to address your gear for leveling alt jobs. it's just time consuming. and yes, playing a game, period, is time consuming, but there's ways to take out the tedium of certain aspects of it. i am trying to level all classes, both war and magic and land and hand. armoury space is not *that* constrained if i'm careful, but it is still limited and may be an issue for others. you can also disagree without devaluing or trying to invalidate other peoples' experience.

and honestly, even though the gear would remain on one character due to the nature of FFXIV unlike WoW mailing your heirloom gear to alts, it would help for the weirdos who do make actual alt characters for their own reasons and want to once more level alt jobs after the first one. like, severely. some people do that. they're weird. but they shouldn't have to suffer for it if that's how they wanna play.

Irrelevant. There are already working Aetheryte Earrings and Menphina's Earrings in the game. There is no question of technical viability, only philosophical and economic concerns.

I would definitely use your glamour chest for that gear. Repair it and pitch it in there and you can keep it handy for when you need it. They recently expanded it to 800 slots.

I getcha on wanting to level everything. The 90 reward isn't so awesome but the 80 reward is a pretty nice mount with unique music. I love mine and it caused me to level things that had a lot of dust on them.

There are a decent amount of non-dungeon things for leveling. There's PotD and FATES as someone mentioned. I would always do my daily tribal quests and daily hunts from HW onward (ARR daily hunts kinda suck and your hunting and GC logs work better). Don't sleep on guildhests, too. There's a challenge log entry if you do 10 for the week that can give you a decent chunk if exp. Also the challenge log itself can give you some good boosts. I had some classes I didn't really want to do in roulettes (mostly tanks before I became a GNB main) so I would level them in other ways.

yeah, i think i'll have to pitch the glamour dresser for storage, i did forget they expanded the amount it can hold *considerably* - says something about how long i took a break lol i think it was a while back but i also haven't played for a while too. it'll help at least for storing tomestone gear especially. (i'll - or we, will just have to remember the gear's there for that lmao)

it's alright, we're managing, just a little struggling for space between doing everything sometimes. & right?? i want the amaro bird so much, it was a pleasant surprise to see that the dynamis data center still has the road to 80 buff so i've been trying to take advantage but still a lot of classes need work. i basically made a new character to play over here with my friend so we started from scratch shortly after the data center came out. it's the first time i've leveled crafters and gatherers so much! i had previously only gotten maybe cul to like 80. trying to do all of them tho is for real suffering;;;; even without hoarding everything lol

i've always been afraid to tank but trying to do this has forced me to. it still a little stressful but i don't think as bad as i anticipated.........kinda lol thoooose are the ones i want to do potd/hoh for the most so i dont have to stress, but i think for leveling roulettes it's not actually that bad. higher lvl trials and raids make me nervous tho cuz i've only learned mechanics from the perspective of dps or healer and i know things are a lil diff for tanks

Honestly, the mention of how you can avoid having to upgrade your gear by doing deep dungeon/Bozja is just more reason to make gearing alt jobs simpler.

Some people would rather level using FATEs, dungeons, etc, so I don't see any reason why having scaling gear to streamline that process would be so terrible.

Just require the player to already have a job that uses that particular armor set at the level cap so the leveling gear isn't entirely obsolete.
