Would you pay for instanced housing

Maybe? Depends how expensive it was. If it was similar to the cost of a retainer, I probably would. If it was a significant proportion of my sub fee, like US$10? No way. The ROI compared to the value of what I get for my normal sub is just not there, despite the fact I really want a house.

I think instanced small houses should be free, add a plot to your island.
As for the current housing system, I would be ok with a change, Free and it will expire after 30 days if you don't visit it or pay to keep it $1 small $2 for medium, $3 for a large house.
I would gladly pay $2 a month never to have to worry about losing my house. Even more, since the last patch I only log in for 2-3 hours a week, it's easy to forget to goto the house even with a calendar event on my phone.

I couldn't sleep one day and I checked my phone only to find out in 3 hours my house was going to get deleted.
I logged in and saved both mine and my hubby's houses.
I don't normally read all the emails I get.

i already pay for 2 retainers. thats qol for me. if house was qol, and i needed one, and i didnt feel like dealing with lottery, then maybe. why not.

But do you understand why those companies have moved from subscription models to microtransactions? It's not because they're happier with less money. It's because they make more money that way. A small percentage of their player bases will be paying less than they would for a flat subscription fee. Most are paying more. Then there's that other small percentage that spends a massive amount on the micro transactions.

People are dumb when it comes to managing their money. Ask them to pay $15/mo and they'll talk about how they're getting ripped off. Tell them the game is free to play and they're happy. There's also no problem getting them to purchase a dozen micro transactions a month at $1.99 a pop because suddenly those are a good value since the game is free. The number that sticks in their head is the $1.99 and not the $23.88 they actually spent that month. They're happy to have spent $8.88 more than the $15 they were complaining about.

Let's not forget how many of those games hide content behind additional paywalls on top of flooding their cash shops with QoL items or even items that affect player power. Best of all are those lootboxes bundles that are the only way to obtain rare limited time items yet the drop rate is low enough that you could be spending $100 and still not get the desired item. There may be months that you don't buy anything but there will be other months where you buy a lot of items because of promotions or new releases. Instead of paying $240 over a year you discover you've paid $400 or $600 or over $1,000 on all those microtransactions.

If you've been playing the games that rely on microtransactions as much as you've played FFXIV, try checking your transaction records for the last year. Did you pay more or less than what you've paid for FFXIV in that time?

Personally, I'm happier paying base price for the game/expansions plus a set monthly fee and knowing that it's almost all-inclusive with an option to pay for whatever I want in the 0.1% that isn't included than to be stuck paying another $1-$15 every time I want a QoL improvement or a cosmetic or a new content unlock or play lootbox roulette for an item.

i would pay for a few more item slots tho. i know i'm lucky enough to have snagged a house but when i found out how big the mansions were and how few items you could place i was like... what's even the point lmfao. like half your place is just, what, empty? even a medium can be hard to "fill up" without allowing one room to look pathetically empty.

No because I have a house and Island should been made into instance housing. I would pay monthly if they added to housing unlimited item storage.

nah. Housing is a vast wasteland. Who cares. I never see anyone in the housing districts except an occasional tumbleweed.
