How has every other major MMO solved the problem of downtime other than FF14?

Consider, though, that you shouldn't have use the Pentium 4 as being part of the server hardware, since Intel stopped selling the chip 3 years before A Realm Reborn went live.

You must be new. Back in the LK days of WOW, 24 hours was considered LIGHT.

I guess, they update also the OS on their servers. And if you run Windows, Windows-Update can take a very long time. :)

I've played other games with very long maintenance times and honestly, I prefer if they take longer but make sure everything works. I remember RIFT updating within a few hours, going back on and having to go down again to hotfix gamebreaking bugs.

It depends. Supposedly he has admitted on the forums to doing RMT activities. So...they could also ban his FFXIV account because he openly admitted on the official forums that he does RMT activities in game.
