This was a cool idea for a thread, Custard! I like that you're responding to each post.
Hatching-tide Day confuses her greatly, but she appreciates the occasion like any other Eorzean holiday. It also has some similarities to a Viera celebration for their fertility goddess (completely made that up), so Kukuru feels a bit nostalgic during that time.
She absolutely loves Valentione's Day, especially after becoming famous because of all the chocolate gifted to her during the holiday.
Isn't it cool how Viera names function? I was going to change her full name, but decided to just change the forename, since Kukuru Dei-Ijla sounds nice together. Plus, she will always have pride in her tribe, even though she adopted a new home/"tribe" (with the Scions).
Rosemary tea... y'know, I don't think I've ever had any, which is a shame. Makes for a cute name, though. Maybe your Viera adds sugar to his tea to make it sweet?
according to google rosemary tea has strong pine notes with undertones of citrus. Now, this is assuming you made tea with fresh rosemary. Often, storage time can change the flavor of herbs and spices (usually mellowing them out. This is why, for example, you want most of your spices kept away from light when not in use). I can imagine sugar would do it favor, though I would need to do more research on this specific tea. Some teas benefit from lemon/lime juice or some other additives (or none. Some like their tea without anything else). Oh! fun tea fact! Some teas change color from additives or oxidizing. Butterfly pea tea changes color if you add lemon juice. Butterfly pea tea starts out a deep blue and will turn pink when lemon juice is added. Burdock tea starts out yellow when first brewed. Once it oxidizes it goes from a light yellow to emerald green. I have drank burdock tea and it tastes strongly of cucumber (said to have health benefits. But honestly? The best benefit is the water! I didn't really like burdock tea when I brewed a fresh, prepared root that I harvested... For some reason I do not like the flavor of cucumbers).
Valentine's day also has a lot of romantic undertones. I wonder how she feels about that. Honestly though, yes the chocolate has to be my favorite part of the holiday too! Especially the day after when they go on sale X3
I love how Viera names function. It is the ultimate flexibility. It lead me to see some silly names that made me smile while I do roulettes.
My main character, Brynne, is a moon kitty whose mother was fascinated with Hyurs (how she got her name). She's practical, logical, and generally prefers to carefully consider her actions. The number of times the WOL has to immediately act without time for consideration drives her crazy, but she's also pretty decent at improvisation due to how much she overthinks everything in advance.
I mainly chose Miqo'te because I love cats, and Keeper of the Moon because I liked the lore better than the Seekers.
Aww yeah, the heights in this game are usually different compared to how irl heights work. And not much of a backstory I suppose, mine is pretty generic. Her leaving her homeland because she didn't feel welcomed anymore, and wanted something bigger in life. But also her spreading troubles at times where she goes (gotta give her that small evil side to her as well). Originally I thought about making her some half void sent, but not sure if that is *TOO* generic, I'm still thinking about it though! :D
It’s less that the character themselves look hyper-realistic but more that Midlanders in general look more familiar and less fantasy. I’m not at home but funny enough I did find a screenshot of my character wearing modern clothes on a friends’ discord:
And one in my normal glam during the time I tried a slightly more fantasy eye color:
sometimes I think of giving character evil traits as a treat. And not necessarily! Even simple backstories may draw from personal experiences at some degree. Generic isn't always bad either! It really depends ^^ I knew someone who had a half voidsent character- though I do wonder if in game we will ever get even more canon lore on this?
Very true- midlanders look a lot like humans because well- they are modeled on them. I guess a lot of players aren't entirely used to that being in the game (which is understandable given that a lot of races look a bit different from your average human! and hyur isn't the most popular choice per say).
I like your character- she looks very well put together! I always appreciate it when glams incorporate color!
The grimoire is called Ethica. It's a very pretty one, with butterflies and flowers. The type of drop you'd expect from a place like Dohn Mheg... except it drops from Castrum Abania?? It has never made sense that the pretty Fairy-looking book drops from a Garlean castle, while Dohn Mheg's weapons barely look fae at all.
As for the ginger options, I think it just stuck because how pretty I think orange and green can look together, and it's not a combo I see too often in XIV. I've dyed my hair a couple times IRL, but the eye color I'd need contacts, and I hate contacts.
Maybe the Garleans stole it? They steal land, so they likely steal pretty things too.
Also I too hate contacts lol This is why I wear glasses instead. Also very true. I usually see cherry red hair instead. In all fairness, cherry red is a pretty hair color.
Edit: Read the comment below me and did a short search. I think the weapon you are thinking of is Aurora
https://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/wiki/Aurora
thread bump! I wanna love hearing about other's characters ^^
Realizing this after years has made me depressed...
Oh no, Aurora is for SMN. I was talking about Ethica, which is the SCH one. Then again, it's just 4 recolors of a single design for the Abania and (as I just realized) Dohn Mheg gimoires.
I just want more actual Fae-looking things.
Yeah, the weapons from Castrum Abania are amazing! I ran that dungeon so many times just to get them all, especially the paladin shield. Relics schmelics, the shield from Castrum Abania is the best shield in the whole game.
ooh pretty! I am not sure if that is the best shield, but to be fair I haven't played with shields a in while. That is certainly a very pretty one! Taking a closer look, I appreciate how it has birds in the front with flowers. I love flowers and birds so it certainly is a win in my book. Though, I am curious, is there a dyeable version?
I haven't done much RP with my character, but he started out similar to the Midlander WoL but with long hair (to pattern more of myself into the game), but eventually when I met Ardbert I was surprised how our faces looked similar minus eye color, and facial hair.
Eventually I changed over to the WoL hairstyle, but still with a similar face to Ardbert.
When I got to the part with Hades and Ardbert I popped a fantasia to make myself completely into Ardbert when that certain event happened (for my headcanon reasons).
When Endwalker happened, the only two things I changed was adding the new facial hair, and a scar on my cheek (yes the WoL in the Endwalker trailer has a scar on his face, but its faint and hard to spot).
So basically my character is the combination of the WoL & Ardbert.
I love Dark Elves/Drow and will generally play one if given the option. I like the combination of purple skin and white hair a lot (which is why it makes me sad that 95% Duskwights are the pale skin tone that looks nigh indistinguishable from Wildwoods). I generally tend to play male characters in most MMOs because I want the armor to actually look like armor (though XIV is better about it than most games). That and I really, really don't like the "cutesy anime waifu" vibes of most of the female character options.
My story is that Percy and his twin sister (my alt) were found as babies my a Roegadyn sailor who adopted and raised them alongside his son (my little brother's character). I started out in Limsa, so it feels appropriate, but ever since I reached Heavensward, I consider Percy's true home to be Ishgard. I even got myself a small house in Empyreum.
I mean I'm not being toxic about it. I'm not going around pointing at other miqo'te players and telling them to go fanta so I can be the only miqo'te. I just want to be able to have a more unique character, and because character customization options are a bit bland the only options really comes down to leaving a race that I enjoy and prefer myself due to it being the most popular and used race in game. I also get a tiny bit tired of all the miqo'te stereotypes, but those exist for every race so... oh well.
I picked a Viera at the beginning but got dissapointed he couldn't wear hats.
I got my free fantasia, my wife asked if she could make a character for me, and made this catboy. I wanted a Lala but I promised her I would play the catboy so I went in and... I ended up really liking his style.
I made a little RP headcanon that he's an orphan who was eventually found and adopted by a Viera (Hence why I still got a Viera name, too poor to change it lol). His wanderlust led him to leave his village when he grew up, combined with the fact he really never fit in, being a Miqo'Te living in the Salikawoods. He can't see his father anymore, but he writes letters to him to tell him how things are going.
So, for me, I wanted my character to look as strong and menacing as possible. I wanted people to think "Yeah, you don't mess with this one" when they look at my character. Yet, My character does share my IRL eye color which is a little part of me and that's the only think we have in common.
I didn't add fancy tatoo or anything like this, because it would be overwhelming on an Au Ra, so I rather keep it simple yet stylish.
All my glams are mostly Armors. You'll never see my character in anything else than something suitable for a fight. That's just how he should look ^^.

I'm a former WOW player and after I quit, I missed my blood elf terribly. So naturally when I started FFXIV, I gravitated towards elezen. My blood elf was male so I made my elezen male. I see my elezen as an extension of myself. We don't look alike of course, but I dress him similarly to how I would dress, and even his emotes are similar to how I would react. I started as elezen in HW, switched to bunny boy at the start of EW, but it just didn't feel the same. A few weeks ago I switched back to my elezen and it just feels correct now. :)
Edit: I guess I should post a picture. I broke tradition and grabbed this cute dress out of my FC chest just to clear up space. This is something I would have never considered having him wear. Not the best picture but it's the only one I have of him wearing this dress right now.

I like the hair you chose! The white and black combo that fades reminds me of the moon. Also yeah, I don't see nearly enough darker skinned, gray duskwight NPCs! Though, when I do see a gray skinned duskwight player in roulettes I know I am in for a treat.
I like how this game has a lot of glam options. I can look delicate in game or go full on heavy armor! Or some inbetween. Gender locking isn't too common which is nice.
I hear Limsa is a fun starting city to choose. I think I've played an alt who did start out in limsa but it has been a while.
I really like your catboy! Gold is a great hair choice for him! Do you have anything written and how he ended up being an orphan? Also yeah, hats are great, I hope SE eventually gives viera all hats as an option ^^ though that reminds me, speaking of hats and viera, the new power-ranger like hat that came from the moonfire faire that viera can wear kind of reminds me of betty crocker red rubber spatulas...
Have you explored the silly hats that have ear coverings that still show it the miqote ear shape?
the ice blue eyes give him a colder look. His hair being frosty white also furthers this theme nicely. Yeah, he does look like someone you wouldn't want to mess with, especially with his tough looking armor! What armor is in that screenshot? It has nice detail work ^^
Do you have any other screenshots of him?
Oh nice! How are you liking the game?
The dress doesn't look bad, though he might look better in a different color! The tattoos look nice, don't think I've seen many characters with it. Maybe when you get a few screenshots of his usual style, would you be up to showing them?
What are your favorite emotes as elezen?
Yeah kinda sad. I like gray skin, but I also understand bluer shades can complicate making good color schemes. I haven't ran into many gray-skinned duskwights players in game. It is a treat when I do, though. I like your character's hair ^^ The white and black contrast nicely. Almost reminds me of the moon!
I want to apologize because my replies aren't saying as much as I'd like ^^; My brain won't fully working- kept waking up at night so my sleep quality wasn't that great
I used to love my character (and still do when it doesn't make sounds) but when they added those additional sounds to each voice, that seriously got me considering a fantasia just to change my voice....Catgirls with that high pitched "WOOOOO" should get a free fantasia.
I actually need to redo screenshot because i'm not entirely satisfied with the actual result. So you can see that later. The armor itself you have seen is Eden 4 Savage, colored in jet black, with Omega 10 Savage Gauntlet to stay in the "Silver" color that goes on the metal part.
Apparently I somehow made my dude look like the angriest mofo on the planet without even trying to. ....Suppose it kinda fits.
Since that was my first mmorpg where you got to play all jobs in 1 character, I wanted to make sure it would be a design that fits most if not all to a certain extend (as I knew I'd want to play them all haha)
Ever since I've seen this promo art though, I wanted to create my character based on this image
https://i.postimg.cc/902Yz9qK/final-fantasy-xiv1.jpg
At that time I was actually torn between the female or male design since they both looked really nice but ended up male this time as I played female on my last game to switch it up.
I know - who plays a human in a fantasy world but that's just what felt the most average to fit all jobs at that time but he just captured the hero adventurer essence the best for me personally

You are a tea afficionado! I definitely need to step up my game. With this knowledge you have given me, I shall have an excellent time drinking my first cup rosemary tea. c:
I'll also try out the other teas you mentioned and do an oxidation test. I've had burdock tea before, but I drank it straight (bleh-it's disgusting, but the nutrients and nourishment are great benefits).
Well, Kukuru isn't much of a romantic, thanks to her lifestyle as an adventurer. Like, she's had a wandering eye every now and then (she has a weakness for male Au Ra), but she takes romance rather seriously, so falling in love with someone means she will have to settle down with them one day, unless they are willing to compromise her nomadic lifestyle (or join her on her adventures). With this thought in mind, Kukuru has had moments of romantic feelings for her comrades, specifically G'raha Tia (it started to develop when they first met during the Crystal Tower arc). She is uncertain if his feelings for her are any different from a starstruck fan rather than true romantic interest, so she has never broached the subject. Estinien is also another option, although their comfy brother/sister relationship (Azure Dragoon solidarity!) is too grand to disrupt.
Kukuru and Zenos hold/held tumultuous affection for each other, which is apparent in his dialogue towards and about her alone. Whether it was romantic, sexual, or something else entirely in anyone's guess. I'll leave it at that, for fear of going into spoiler territory.
With all of that said, Kukuru celebrates all forms of love during Valentione's Day, not wanting any of her friends or acquaintances to feel left out. She's a talented enough culinarian to whip up a batch of homemade chocolates for them, with customized messages and symbols on top.
I'm so tempted to make a male Viera alt with a silly or cute name. I need to get more into roleplay on FFXIV.
nice! Nothing wrong with playing a human in a fantasy setting! Sometimes it is good to try putting the mundane in a less-than mundane setting for any number of reasons. I do appreciate how this game lets me play any job I want on a single character- I plaid 2 jobs at most on my main and kind of regret that so on this alt I decided to try all the jobs. Definitely helps with utility (maybe I want the instant queue, or maybe I want to purely dedicate myself to damage. Maybe I want to be a dps for hunts. Maybe I want the bulk of a tank during msq instances, etc). I really like your lance! Could you tell me what it is?
ooh nice! The lighting captures the shininess of it very well! He has a very determined look!
May I suggest rosebud mint tea? Rose tea is great- very aromatic. Though not for everyone because it is heavier on the floral notes. Though, personally, if I want a tea to taste sweeter without too much added sugar I like to use rose water (the cooking kind. There is a certain brand but I forget what it is called. Expect a clear bottle with the label being blue). I hear orange blossom water is also amazing, but I haven't been able to get my hands on it. By biggest tip is to add small amounts at a time. Both have the ability to make your tea more bitter if too much is used.
I can imagine how romance can be intimidating to really go for if it implies settling down. Though, romance doesn't need to mean that! As you said, she would likely fit best with someone who would suit her lifestyle. G'raha would be a great option for that. Though, that is up to you- his feelings and motivations can be difficult to read at times (though, maybe it could be a mix of both? If so, they may need to spend time establishing a healthy dynamic if they were to get together). I love Estinien- such a fun character. If she wants to get closer (in any sense. Maybe closer dragoon bond?) she can always give him dried squid snacks.
What was her favorite kind of chocolate?
Chocolate comes in many flavors. From the cocoa butter rich white chocolate (you haven't had good white chocolate until you have ditched hersheys and spent more money on the kind very rich in cocoa butter. Remember to read ingredients and know that the ones listed first have the highest quantities!) to the rich, deep and flavorful semi-sweet dark chocolate. Or maybe the sweet middling milk chocolate. Of course, there is much, much more to it than that. Ever tried dark chocolate with roasted coffee beans inside? Or fruity raspberry and chocolates. Nuts are also quite classic as is a caramel filling. There is more too- varieties of chocolate make a big difference. It can influence the flavor undertones. One may be more nutty, another taste like there are berries infused inside it. Either way- What is her favorite chocolate? Was there any chocolates she made the stood out amongst the other years she made treats for her friends? (an example would be, one year a culinarian made particular orange-flavored chocolates that their friends still talk about to this day)
