Isn't this roughly where we stand right now?
Reaching Level Cap is an Achievement. It is suppose to be a satisfying experience. Hitting level cap in FFXIV means nothing. It doesn't even feel good. It actually, for me, feels bad. When one of my classes hits 50 I don't think yay I can now get in to that End Game content that i wasn't aloud to do because I didn't have the right Class to stack. I think, Damn now there is nothing left to do on this class that I was starting to enjoy.
The Current Rate of leveling in FFXIV is completely unsatisfying.
Theres about 30-40 hours / week difference between hardcore and casual.
Leveling in this game isn't difficult at all.
If I have a class at say.. level 10.. and I want it to hit 50? All it takes me is 4 days of decent grinding to hit 50.
From 1-50 for new players and existing players they have to speed up the process since they have to remember this game was out over a year now, by having slower leveling system that means they would need to concentrate on making those lower level contents more and that will give less for current players already at or near 50 on all classes. Even if you played only 2 hours a day if you started from day 1 of release of this game you would probably have multiple lv50 classes.
Pretty sure SE would love to make 1-50 slower but with how this game is already is now they want to put as much in to entertain the existing players, but it could also mean they might make 50+ take longer.
That's just my guess
Completely agree with the OP.
The reason the grind is so boring now is that there's so little to do in 1 to 50.
Add 10 times more main storyline content instead of vapid leves and I'm sure everyone would stop complaining about how boring it is to develop your character.
First I fully respect everyones opinion but I want to know some feedback on my thoughts, because I'd rather play for the story instead of the robotic grinding..
In my opinion, MMO games should instead focus on story and content to gradually grow the characters with skills and exploration.
For example, I enter a town and learn that there's a monster that kidnaps people at night, depending on my class, my reward from saving the townsfolk gets me new skills. Those kind of events can be only seen by people who got to the place for the 1st time. A perfect example of instanced outdoor events is in WoW where you start playing Death Knight.
Another example if I was a crafter like a chef, I get asked to cook up a new plate for the town mayor or fix what ever furniture needed in each house if I was a carpenter. Rewards there will teach me how to repair certain group of items etc.
This method might sound broken but I can continue longer about this if it's considered really.
The achievement is in playing the game and working toward a goal. You are labeling that as levels is the only thing that can satisfy this. Think outside the box and stop living in the past with outdated concepts of reward through repetition like grinding levels.
The evolution of MMOs needs to be more... Just because Yoshi looked to WoW doesn't mean he is giving us WoW, WoW looked to EQ and were those games the same? We look to our past so we can pave a road to our future.
If you only had access to one class/job then yes, the speed to get to Lv50 is too fast. However, keep in mind that you're leveling multiple classes and jobs. Lv50 multiplied by how many classes you will level. It actually evens out. For people who are concerned they won't be able to experience all the lower level content, you can do this while leveling another class.
While I again am uneasy at what was said in the interview, I do agree unfortunately that this is the way it is because the launch did not go well and now they have to keep us hardcore gamers entertained. And I do work towards many different things and do events all the time regularly with endgame stuff. I just wanted to also enjoy the journey of leveling and progressing in other jobs/classes as well, and feel like I put some form of dedication to that job, even if just a little.
Hello,
I'm glad everyone is enjoying the thread, but it seems to have gone a bit off-topic. Don't be alarmed if you see some posts that need to be moderated. We know you enjoy the discussion and we'd like to keep this thread open, but we'd appreciate it if you'd stay more on topic and refrain from any personal attacks. Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.
A final thought on all this nonsense before i go to work
Should level 1-50 be fast? Yeah it should, for a single class.
Lets look at MMOs as a whole in this, over time, leveling gets faster as that specific level gets older and older. All games do this for the most part.
when a level cap raise goes into effect, that cap raise itself usualy takes as long as if not longer then ALL the levels before it.
I highly forsee this being something looked at with us here. Should 1-50 take 40-80 hours? well, looks like 51-60 will take another 80 hours, and so on and so forth.
61-70 copuld takde upwards of 200 hours depending on what things look like then and so on.
1-50 at this point has been around so long, it probly is time for a level cap raise in the future(at 2.0 or within a few months after i would hope) so that we can go beyond what we are at now. and there is a high probability of this happening if people remember what we were told by yoshi about his thoughts on cap raises.
Casual vs hardcore has NOTHING at all to do with it at this point, but after so long, people just getting into the game do need a bit of help playing catchup to those who have been in for years as far as level raising. And this is whats basicaly been happening over time(though it has been alot faster then it should be imo but thats another story)
Moose you kill me lol. Me and Tina had a discussion about this last night in the ls. Care to talk about this in chat along with how doomed humanity is again?
LOL,
They want hardcore play but they take that as sitting in a spot grinding out a bar. How about we get real hardcore people and get world bosses that take combined effort and a four hour battle to kill. That was hardcore in FFXI, not grinding out the mundane levels.
that is about the most full of shit statement I have ever read not the party part but getting from 1-50 in 2 weeks with 2 hours a day during the week on leves.
an average leave takes about 15 minutes solo thats 4 leves an hour that 80 leves in 20 hours it takes more than 80 leves to get from 1-50 especially since you wont have much rested xp since you will be playing every day.
Leveling is not the only long term goal we have. There is other options like rare armor, relics, and various amounts of achievements to unlock. I'm confident there will be a ton of additions in 2.0
That said there is already long term goals in game for us right now. its shocking to see some people going paranoid over one of the easiest thing to archive in an MMO.
This is true, but it creates a number of issues with the current system. See, to maintain that, they need to create enough midgame content to level 3 or 4 classes with. Currently, we hardly have enough for one. The second issue is that, because it's balanced around leveling multiple classes, you end up with several shallow experiences as opposed to one, meaningful one
Again, the actual leveling isn't really the issue here, it's the complete lack in sense of progression. Right now, 1-50 is a meaningless grind before you get to any real content worth doing, and that's poor design. If they fleshed out the leveling experience, filled it with meaningful, exciting content, and THEN you reached endgame, well, that'd be much better than what we have now
says the hardcore player with 1 fifty http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com...cicuid=2402167
I don't know how this turned into a casual vs hardcore thread. As I said in a previous casual vs hardcore thread that got closed, How many hours you put into the game shouldn't define you as casual/hardcore. Your ability to operate in content in the should define you as bad/good/or great. Please dont turn this into a casual versus hardcore thread or it will get locked. The thread is about the concerns of people that feel leveling should mean something versus those that feel leveling is just a stepping stone.
Funny, they deleted the posts (like mine) that actually made some sense and contributed to why faster leveling is bad. So I'll just repeat myself.
I don't understand why people must come to a game and whine that they have to level and they have to spend time doing it. Endgame content is not the only content, so please people get that out of your heads. If I wanted to play an easy leveling game, I'd go play a single player game. THIS is an MMO, which is supposed to last for years, not a couple of weeks like a single player game. All these people that nag about how "long" it takes to level is just ruining the game. That causes the devs to focus all their attention on endgame content.
Sometimes I really hate the people that think they are "entitled" because they "have a life". I'm a full time college student with a part time job and have all classes/jobs to 50 INCLUDING a level 50 crafter. Don't come in here and tell me I have no life.
Ok, now I'm all happy.
Hi Guys,
I know it's only been a brief moment since my post, but going through the thread, and judging by the comments made after my last post, I'm afraid we're going to have to lock this thread. There are some very good opinions and we're very happy so many of you feel so passionately about FFXIV. Unfortunately, some of that passion is spilling over into behavior that is unacceptable on the forums. If you decide to continue this discussion elsewhere, I hope it can remain productive, on topic, and most of all civil.
Thanks for your cooperation and understanding.
