For me even if I remove the lens of fun nostalgia nods I love 6.0 i think it’s a lot of fun and the post ew msq makes sense since yshtola wants to learn travel between the shards. Starting with the void makes a ton of sense to me since they’ve been getting to the source longer than anybody.

Not really dismissing the story, but it just feels very barebones, almost as if it was meant as trial storyline, and not MSQ. I was thinking that there is more to it if you know the story of FFIV, but alas, according to your words, references are just fun side remarks, not something that adds context to FFXIV's story. In that case, I would just have to conclude that this story is simply nowhere near the standards I would expect this game to have.

Ironically, the Four Fiends and Golbez have more plot importance in FFXIV than they ever did in FFIV. The Fiends were basically an afterthought since complex storytelling wasn't really a thing back when FFIV released. All of that says a lot considering none of them have much significance here either. It very much feels like a slightly beefier trial storyline. Which is more or less why so many people dub 6.1 onward as the "anime filler arc". I wager we won't here a single word about any of this come Dawntrail nor will Zero be around.

This is honestly pretty likely, we might get a nice nod back to it in some sidequest they come up with (like the Tataru storyline)

I will admit this msq/raid series post endwalker is a little mmmnn forced? But i feel like they decided “hey we arent sure we want to start a brand new story arc, so lets just do a self contained story.” … “okay what about?” Uhh well we’re doing a lot of ff4 stuff so why not just do a golbez/zeromus arc and save the 13th?

Which to be fair we’ve had hints about restoring or attempting to restore the 13th for forever so it’s just a plot line that needs to be wrapped up which is what this is. So Dawntrail can start fresh.

I'm disappointed as well. I have played FFIV, but I still would have preferred a cat mount instead.

Honestly I don't think I've seen many people who HAVE played 4 say that they would have preferred a cat mount. Glad to see not everyone is just riding off nostalgia and saying the mount is good because of it.

I can say I wasn’t shocked to find Amano’s Bahamut was the final ex mount, and ultimately it is what it is. By all means give devs your feedback. Politely preferably.

For me it’s a cool nod as a lifelong player of the franchise. But i do see how if you dont know or didnt play ff4 it’s disappointing for you. But it is in line and within reasonable expectation and it is very related to the game that very heavily influenced Endwalker and the game that is referred to in endwalker.. constantly. Beyond the msq and trials series.

"It wAS LoVe LeTTer", screw that. ShB was love letter to ff8 (and ff9 too) but the final mount we get still match trial mounts.

Frankly this just show how much the devs doesn't care anymore to me.

By focusing on nostalgia bait instead of doing logical thing.

They could make bahamut mount a reward for something else and keep the final mount to be a cat, but it’s too much for small indie company i guess
