I've undercut by over a million gil before
As far as I’m concerned if the item is a free drop then I WILL go as low as the npc selling price because whatever it sells for is profit. If I made the item I will undercut to the value of the mats or until it sells.
So if so confident that the price is worth 90k then buy a few at 40k and wait for the price to go up.
You seriously bothered a GM with this... and wait, a GM actually responded to you, for this?
Hell, a shit ton of people on my server have been trying to get a GM's attention for months and we've all been met with canned radio silence. If this is the kind of crap that keeps them from actually doing the things that require GM attention, I'll be undercutting by 50 k just in the hopes I see one of these fabled GM's.
I'll be like Oprah with my 50 k discounts... you get 50k off and YOU get 50k off!
I tend to not undercut too much BUT…If I see your prices updated in a few seconds to minutes from mine, Ill test again and again and if it keeps happening, Ill undercut by an insane amount, have fun earning nothing from your bots ;3
If someone undercuts another person by like 1 gil, I find that petty and buy the normal priced item from someone else.
Sometimes undercutting is needed though. Sassy told me that Pastel Blue was very cheap but on Zalera when I checked a couple months ago there were only 2 on the broker for 200K each. Sometimes when there is no more stock, someone may not know what to charge for something and they could have seen very high prices for other dyes and thought that's what it would be worth. In this situation someone who knows the market better can probably undercut by way more than 50K for that item.
Of course he didn’t. Op is a notorious forum troll who runs several accounts, is into botting and rmt. What you are looking at is one of his most recent characters: created in May, one maxed combat job with only msq mounts and all crafters and gatherers at 90, in a one man fc called “Karen”. Let’s continue to undercut his bots by 50k gils!
When I need gear for my alts and a couple of friends I don’t hesitate to undercut the bots by hundreds of thousands to tank their prices (at non peak hours to minimize chances someone will buy my bait item). It’s always the same retainers that follow you to insanely low prices within minutes. Got a gear piece drop from 498k to 70k last week before pulling out my item and buying what I needed below the selling price of mats. The price was back up at its original level a few hours later after a few other people managed to snap items at a low price. A normal person would have bought out my bait item instead of following me because their things were selling at 498k. If a real person is dumb enough to take the obvious bait, then it’s their loss.
I will post my orders for however much I please tyvm
I understand the OP's frustration. He's right and the "supply and demand" people are right too.
On one hand, he could just NOT undercut the 50k guy by another 1 gil and let that ONE sell and let the market recover. The problem with that is that due to, in part, market bots, we've all desensitized ourselves to the undercutting situation. When bots are involved, one person would undercut by 50k and the the next 3-4 bot-controlled retainers would also match that price (minus 1). At that point, the market HAS dropped on an item like the Kupo coffer that likely doesn't sell often.
We all just assume everyone else is botting and we better sell it before the market drops further due to bots. It is a circular problem.
However, the OP is also right... depending on the item. Most players walk up to the MB not looking for a deal, but looking to buy something. And whatever the price is, they just buy the lowest. All the time. Sure, there are specific items that people probably shop around for... like 10M+ gil mounts. But when it comes to stuff like the new crafted DoW/M gear... whatever sell is what is listed first. Whether it is undercut by 1 gil or 50000 gil. It doesn't matter. And that's when the OP is right.
"It's supply and demand" is true, but also the simple-minded argument. There is a lot more to it. The FFXIV economy is not the real-world economy.
I sold ShB gear for a while and had to drop most of them by large amounts because they would get undercut by 1 gil every 2 hours despite selling about once every two days on average. Just no point fighting a losing battle if the demand isn't there.
Undercut harder!
I don't pay much attention to the undercutters, honestly. I just list my item I want to sell and forget about it until someone buys it XD
I understand your frustrations though, OP. just keep trying --- your items will be sold eventually! what's important is you don't give up.
im going to undercut as much as i want if you are undercutting me by 1 gil every 30 minutes
OP, you dont pay my sub, so.....
yet another pointless thread from someone who thinks the entire game is all about them.
Well if someone posted an item for 10million and it is only worth 2million then I am going to undercut with 7.95millions...
It is not rude, and if your speculation has failed on whatever item, then that is just a part of the game also organized trade cartels and the likes where you are only permitted to do that even though you could sell more items quicker and faster, due to eg, having a much better Chain Supply Line or cutting out the middleman by doing parts of it yourself, just means you are more competetative.
am gonna undercut for 50K or more, if the item is not worth it.. if it is flooding the market, even more.
If someone drops the item to 40k, everyone drops the item to 40k and now the market is forever at 40k. It doesn't go back to 90k.
But if everyone matches you at 90k, it'll forever be at 90k as long as no one undercut massively.
It's absolutely griefing to undercut so much and falls under griefing behavior.
GMs just said they will look into it but the retainer is still active. Guess they didn't do anything but next time they undercut by so much again I'll report again.
The items aren't worth anything though? If something is at 2M then people will buy it at 2M. If something is at 10M then people will buy it at 10M. The only thing that affects the price is whether the material price is lower than the final item price.
If you actually dropped something from 10 million to 2 million I feel sad for you because you lost out on 8 million for absolutely NO reason.
Just be patient and it will sell at 10 million. It's basic logic.
Just buy it and sell for 90k. That way that retainer earn their 40k, you earn 50k and everyone is happy.
This by far is the most karen thread I’ve ever read. Hope the gm actually ends up taking action on you for such a petty report.
I once leveled all my crafters during SB, and did a full meld, just so I can undercut other crafters on MB.
Its not about making money urself, its about to force other players to earn less money.
Ah, another troll post from the Karen who demanded an easy route for an Axolotl. I honestly don’t care if I get undercut. My stuff usually sells. Most of my profit comes from materia selling anyways.
several here hide under the definition of free market not truly knowing what are the repercussions if this isn't handled properly
no wonder we are in such awful inflation here in the US....welp....
time to take an alt on Crystal and undercut to 1g xD
I saw several pieces of crafted Healer gear that undercut all other pricings by almost half for each piece. Granted, Famfrit is not really known for being reasonable in its pricings by any stretch of the imagination, given that the pieces in question were still 235k for the undercut pieces and 450K for the others on the market board, which feels off given it's been almost a month since the patch dropped, so the gear's value has already dropped substantially since week 1 prog is long since over and we have about 3/4 weeks of Tombstone and Raid gear collected at this point.
Honestly, if I wasn't so burnt out on grinding Hunt Trains for tombs making my own gear, I wouldn't mind contributing some gear at a more reasonable price than what the scalpers on Famfrit are trying to pull.
If you undercut me by 1 gil, I will undercut you by 15%. And the more times you undercut me by 1 gil, the further I'm willing to tank the price as a "screw you".
I don't want an item sitting in my retainer's market for months at a time because people keep undercutting by 1. I want my ish sold, regardless of how much.
