I've been playing MMOs for 2 decades and XIV has a very chill in-game community in general. The fact that I can report rude players and they actually get warned/suspended makes me feel safe compared to other MMOs. I joined XIV in 2019 and only ran into 2 rude players and I'm online daily. Other than that, I completely ignore weird things I'm not interested in (like ERP). The forum is full of whiners and trolls, tho.

Try harder next time!

I can see how some subcultures of the FFXIV community could turn off new players. I left my first datacenter for the much-smaller Dynamis datacenter because I disliked seeing certain subcultures. That helped considerably.

If I had known more about the subcultures prior to joining FFXIV, I would have gone for a different datacenter from the start. I'm not sure whether or not Square would try to outright label any of the servers. Would be cool if they did but I feel a large group join a specific server because of friends or wherever the automatic assignment system throws them (which I believe is still Dynamis but I haven't checked in a minute). I feel that it might encourage people to overpopulate other servers and create a problem there while other servers become abandoned or lessened because of whatever label they have assigned to them. Would be nice but I think honestly if people cared about what servers were popular, what the feel was, etc., that they would have done so from the start since all it takes is a simple search on Google to get that info.

Until it's as bad as XI's it will always be better. XI's new player experience is nonexistent.

I expected this to be about how absolutely boring the gameplay experience is from 1-50 as jobs are pretty boring till 60+ and complaining about the community wasn't even on my radar for new players. I generally thought the community was very accommodating to new players...

It is significantly better than it was in the 75 era, but that isn't saying much when you pretty much need a guide to know about all the things you need to know to advance the story and actually play the game...

Im sorry you had a bad experience. I too was a new player not 2 summers ago. I too have a lifetime of MMO games behind me. Im sorry you have had such a bad experience. Your experiences sounds uniquely bad. Two years later and I still dont have a single person black listed. Maybe try another data center.
