FF16 stealing even more dev time from FF14

People quickly forget that SHB had ishgard restoration along with diadem rework. SHB relic also had solo instance similar to hildibrand but open world zones. Criterion was a risk they took that failed similar to the original diadem back in HW but on a much smaller scale.

Quality of content includes the rewards that content provides. Criterion is good in terms of content but terrible in terms of rewards which made it terrible overall.

Deep dungeon is content but should have been released at 6.1

We have reached the point where it is ok to take a break from the game especially with easy relic steps. If you dont like the game right now just take a break.

EW was being worked on after ShB was released, and the decision to make it 1 expansion instead of 2 fell on Yoshi-P who made the call because he felt it was time to wrap it up. If you recall, they even delayed the release to do their quality check because Yoshi-P himself micromanaged it to the point where they needed more time for the quality check. That doesn't sound like FFXVI development interfering with the development of FFXIV to me. Wait, ignoring everything else here, have EW's EXs been well received? Brioche Bun and Fire guy sure, but... I haven't heard anything good about EX Trials 1-3 (1 not needing a healer in the party, 2 being solo tankable/solo healeable, and all three just being absolute boring snorefests, for example). Not saying that's fact, just what I've heard so it's interesting to see someone say they've been well received.

If FF16 didn't impact EW then it's arguably worse because this was brought on by poor decisions made by the dev team. At least blaming 16 gives them an annoying yet sorta understandable excuse.

The problem here is for the most part Endwalker and its subsequent patches have been a success for a wider pool of players than this forum lets on. This forum is an echo chamber of the same 15-20 people spewing vitriol, some make good points others do not. I think the only thing in the last year to garner a wider issue would be this second relic step, the buggy release of their new housing lotto solution and I suppose a buggy Ultimate. The forums aren't a big sample of players...most of the people are too busy AFK in Limsa or playing the game in any way they like.

Once again its perspective and opinion..the forum would likely agree with you but I am sure if you brought the majority community into account more would of likely answered their happiness with whats happened. The reddit and discord can't stand the forums for the most part and the forums can't stand them so its like an internal war of which social outlook is the 'majority' when it comes to praising or critiquing the game.

Even the patches themselves could have been planned out to be this way far ahead of their release dates due to them trying to leave wiggle room for any issues with FF16.

I'm using Wikipedia, cause they've got some pretty decent sourcing from what I can tell

Stormblood began full development in October 2016, released in June 2017.
Shadowbringers was in planning/development from May 2017 up until it's release in July 2019.
Endwalker was being actively developed from at least some time in October 2019 and was in full development by 2020, before it's final release in December 2021.

That's 3 expansions (and their post release content) being developed from October 2016 to present.

By contrast, FF16 was in concept planning from 2015 and full active development began shortly after Heavensward patch 3.4 release in September 2016 and is due to release this year


This means that FF16 was and will be in active development from pre-Stormblood up until mid-Endwalker.

Let me rephrase: I've heard this from people in game, not the forums (I never really see anyone talk about the extremes here). I do in fact spend more time in game than on the forums, so I base what I say off of that.

That's just one example. There are probably others. EW doesn't appear to be getting a Eureka/Bozja zone, but it doesn't mean we haven't gotten content. Personally, I think a lot of this mindset is simply one's perception or better yet... a predisposition to look for the negative.

Years Later, people Claim it had the Best Job Balance.
But of Course I can guess its because those people loved the META, especially the Stupid Fish for Balance.

I do miss Royal Road though...but mostly from the Animation & Aesthetic, not because it was good or anything.

Jobs were indeed fun to play. BRD was busier. SMN felt like the embodiment of Carpal Tunnel but it at least had a shred of logic (and was the last time it ever had one).

But the jobs were imbalanced.

DRK notoriously performed below the other two tanks early into the patch, PLD literally only existed to act as a cooldown dispenser for a Warrior Main Tank.
MCH never really saw much improvement.
SAM had that weird wheelchair meme going around, which eventually evolved to represent its weeb fanbase that didn't bother optimize.
RDM existed almost exclusively for comfort. SMN and BLM had to compete on and off for top damage in the game.
I don't even know what the hell WHM was at the time, it completely flew under the radar.
And there was an entire meta defined around Critical hits with Warrior, Dragoon, Bard, Astro and Scholar. If you didn't fit in the mold, you had to be super useful somehow.

Honestly, SB was fine and cool, especially on job design. A lot of what was "wrong" came down to jank and tweaking. Square Enix's solution was a complete wrecking ball instead.
