We haven't had a new long hairstyle in ages. Lately, at best it'll be shoulder length and even then it'll have some nasty caveat like a fivehead or awful bangs or a gross overall shape or a paywall. I'm not trying to treat this like an either/or thing, though. For a game that rakes in money like XIV, it should be possible to just... have hairstyles coming in that appease more than 1 demographic at a time. Instead the people who want waist-length hair have been sad for years. The people who want really short styles have also been disappointed. And the only ones happy have been whoever's into these half assed ponytails and shoulder length haircuts.

This one we just got looks like a barber had a bad day. I'm surprised people are happy with it, but it really shows how subjectivity in art works.

Viera have a medium length hair, great lengths is a medium hair- so two medium hairstyles
Lyse's hair is longish, so there is that- otherwise there aren't much- there are more short hairstyles than there are medium or long


So, we need long hairstyles

Just because it's not my taste doesn't mean this is not a style option that's not sorely needed.

And once more perhaps because I have a high hairline irl and hate bangs, I didn't even notice that anyone would pick out this hairstyle as having a high forehead until you get to the viera where the proportions are slightly off. The forehead looks normal on everyone else. I still think most of the hairs in XIV have the opposite problem where some foreheads are too low and it makes them look ugly, and the constant complaints otherwise baffle me.

XIV doesn't have a lot of center-back to approaching waist-length hair - but it also doesn't have many options for truly short unisex hair (and almost nothing textured, coils, or curls). This is simple with no added braids, accessories, or partialy shaved designs, so it will be versatile for new NPCs and adds a much-needed variety option.

I have very long curly hair irl- it's to my tail bone
I want those types of hairstyles that the NPC's have
Anything shoulder blade length & collar bone length is considered medium length

I can easily say this new hair should be sufficient for masculine short hair requests but I know there aren't many masculine short hairs
I can easily say Viera have enough hairstyles but I know that not to be true.
I'm ranting bc the audacity of people acting like 2-4 medium length hairs is enough, that people should be happy or something- they are flat, boring hairstyles & lack any variety or uniqueness & it's very annoying

I'm not keeping a hairstyle thread up to be told by players "you have long hairs" No. we. do. not.

there are plenty of long hairstyles in the game, its not the games fault if you wanna look for reasons to nitpick and complain, hair doesnt have to go past your ass for it to be long

That's what Duskane meant. We have long hairstyles, we just don't have any that goes past the chest, let alone waist length like Ysayle's, which would be "excessively long", but Samsonian locks and Great lengths are very well within what would be considered long.

That said, that doesn't mean we shouldn't get more of them

I actually liked the idea of this hairstyle, especially for girls becaue it reminds me a lot of Annie Lennox, who I love.

HOWEVER.

Why they had to make the hairline so high?! It gives an unnatural amount of extra forehead to everyone. It ruins the style, and they should fix it by just lowering it a little bit.

Yeah bro, nah.
Some folks may be happy with it but many of us aren't & that's okay- I don't agree with defending "the game" when there are modders who literally fix hairstyles & viera/ hroth problems for free
99% of the hairs we have are flat, lack anything interesting or fit horribly on everyone that isn't lala/elf/hyur

And Gaia & Venat's hair is abit longer than great lengths which is great news- we can have it made for players to use who want it.

Let those of us who see the flaws created by the devs continue to bring up the improvements we want to see
(also, I'm not yelling at you or anything- I know it seems like I'm jumping down peoples throats but I'm not)

I take the stance that I do because if I don't, there's always that chance of "oh, 3-4 of x hair isn't a big deal so we won't make more" because the devs have literally said they were conflicted by what players wanted on Viera & Hrothgar hairstyles & I debate everything & bring it up all of the time so hopefully, being clear will help the devs with their confusion.
One thing I very much care about & want to see improved is the character creator for everyone- it shouldn't be up to modders to fix the issues that the actual game designers are paid to do.
I want to see my sub money & others put to good use & this recent update hasn't shown much of that imo

I agree with you of course & I'll say this- all hairstyles can & should be improved & future hairstyles should be made better to fit each race appropriately

Try playing a male character with a haircut similar to Arthur Morgan without hair in the face and tell me how it goes.

I hope the person that argued with me and swore up and down male Viera were "made differently" than female Viera because they were supposedly made with shared hairstyles in mind so they all looked good on them without a wonky fit in sight is seeing this.

On topic though, we've had a lot of heavily feminine leaning styles since Scanning For Style in 5.5 so I don't mind this, even though it's not for me at all.

The hairstyle actually looks good in that picture to be honest, its got a bit of fluff while maintaining its short length. The latter being almost unique in of itself considering the trend of long hair and ponytails we've seen.

Now the real problem is the angry scrunched up face that looks like he is about to yell in that awful male viera voice that sounds like a sickly karakul being beaten with a club.

It literally looks exactly the same on every other race (that isn't Hrothgar.) So sick of people pretending Viera are the only ones with big forehead syndrome. I've gone and compared countless hairstyles and there's genuinely no visible "extra forehead" difference between Viera and the other races - their natural hairstyles just have extremely low hairlines so the dichotomy is more readily visible.

Man I wish I Could find these long hairstyles everyone keeps saying we have 8 billion of for females because when I open up to change my hair I just see the same hairs we have had since ARR and another hair here or there that I never use because it doesn't look good on my character in any capacity. Looks great on Highlander with the eyebrow facepaint as well, despite what the printed out picture in the LL lead us to believe!

I don't know if there's actually the same amount of visible forehead space on all races down to the millimeter, but I don't think anyone would deny that for whatever reason certain hairstyles just look better on some races than others so it would be nice if they took that into account more.

The features on the individual humanoid faces aren't so drastically different that a single custom fit wouldn't work for all of them, right now you can go from Teresa Giudice to Dooneese Maharelle just switching between hairstyles and it's a bit jarring.

Comparatively of course it will look better on a more grizzled, aged looking race (Highlanders, arguably Hrothgar) and less good on the "anime face" races (Viera, Miqos). That's just the norm of hairstyles - different designs suit different faces. It still has a massive forehead on that male highlander, it just appears more natural because they're designed to look more rugged and the receded hairline thus makes sense. Highlanders tend to look more middle aged than any other race and many middle aged men have this hairline.

As said, a complexity issue - The faces are mostly super smooth without anything like wrinkles or light shading around the brows, eyes and nose for depth. So when you draw attention away from the hair that complements such smooth faces, then you get such results.

Yeah, definitely a complexity issue. Which is arguably not an issue and just differences between the different races in the game. You can see right here that this femroe has the exact same hairline as the Viera to a T while wearing this hairstyle:

I agree that it's weird that people single out Viera like they're the only ones with a problem here, but I don't think "almost everyone else looks bad in it as well" is a great thing when it comes to new hairstyles being released.

Not everything is for everyone but I guess my point is that with a bit more effort I think it could look good on every race, provided you like short hair and this particular style of course, but as it is it looks like a tiny toupée on an egg on everyone but maybe 2 races?

Which is exactly my point, I guess? This is a problem that should be addressed on every applicable race, arguably even the races it looks better on. The hairstyle is poorly fitted and should be edited on everyone, not just Viera. I don't want to pursue the narrative that it's a Viera only problem even as someone who predominantly plays Viera because it absolutely isn't.

I guess it's just more fun for some people to dunk solely on Viera because it plays into the "this is what you asked for, isn't it????" narrative, but who knows. :rolleyes:

I guess the silver lining in it looking bad on the majority is that there's some more noise about it now, I don't like where we're headed when you not only have to wonder if you like the style of a future hairstyle but also if it actually looks right on your particular race.
