Oh this thread from 2021: https://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/...03#post5773503
Seems like their other thread was saying people were harassing them for being a new tank. And now it's people harassing them for being a new healer. But it also seems like they refused to rez and participate, if the quote above is anything to go by. Hmmm, it appears that context does matter.
Yes, well done you have managed to illustrate a very basic concept of what would be considered a semantic. Now allow me to elaborate for you...
Semantics is the study concerned with deriving meaning in language, how words, phrases, and sentences convey meaning, now, if this implication is lost on you -- The original poster is making a request for advice on how to report people and not a factual claim. Now, you have been playing with semantics here as your sole argument to their post is they were making a claim (Which involves making a 'factual' statement or opinion and not one seeking advice on how to report someone) - Which they were not. It would be playing with semantics to say there were trying to assert a claim.
If you struggle to comprehend that "Players are harassing new healers" - Is not a claim in the literal sense then the onus is on your reading comprehension more than anything.
So yes, you were playing with semantics, and this is on the basis that you seem to struggle to make the distinction between a claim and a request for advice. You were using their language/post in a dishonest and deliberate way in a thinly veiled attempt to win argument.
Well, since OP is gone (character not showing anymore), I guess we'll never know if they successfully sent in a report or not.
Ok but, you are still wrong. You said I’m doubling down on semantics. I said it’s not semantics. Semantics is not saying the opposite of something is true. Right is not left. Wet is not dry. Making a claim is not claiming nothing. Again, you are simply wrong. Save some face
Good job using copy and paste from google.
This just seems silly. "Players are harassing new healers" is, in fact, a literal claim. It does not matter that they were asking how to go about reporting. That's irrelevant to the point you are trying to push. The fact that them saying they want to report people for harassing new healers is them making a claim that someone is harassing healers for being new. What would be semantics is whether they mean harassing healers for simply being new or harassing new healers who don't fully understand their role.
But to say that someone didn't make a claim when they did is not semantics. I'm not sure how that's so hard to understand, but then again, people always surprise me with the amount of mental gynamstics they manage to pull.
No, it is just a coherently written definition, but hey, you do you with this one.
Well done in highlighting the point, however... Your quote "Players are harassing new healers" - Is not equivalent nor the same as the post made by the original author.
It's ironic that people are lumping on context matters whilst subsequently stripping context from the OP for asking for advice on how to report. The only one doing mental gymnastics here is you.
Offering more info than needed? They put the subject of why they want to report so they can be told the right option to select. Makes complete sense to me.
You could just you know, not assume the worst of people. Kinda makes ya look like a dick. I don't know you and I'm not saying you are. But it sure makes ya look like one.
We can all do better.
Oh yeah?
Seems to me like they say they want to report players for harassing new healers. And what was my quote? That they claimed players are harassing new healers? I changed "for" to "are". That's actual semantics.
What you're attempting to do is a perfect example of gas lighting.
Yes, they gave a reason as to wish they feel like they would require reporting someone. Depending on the game, there can be and are several different routes for reporting depending on the behavior, said poster may not have been entirely cognizant of this and felt it prudent to give the reason for reporting, e.g., reporting for harassment could have a different area to report, when compared to, say, report for cheating or botting. Their post was perfectly reasonable and logical.
That being said, I don't see why you or anyone else in this thread feels they should be entitled to further backstory. They asked for advice on how to report harassment on new healers, and people seem more inclined to ask for context whilst subsequently strutting around with the "I bet they were just told they were playing incorrectly" mentality. Based on what, precisely?
I don't see how you being cognizant of the fact changes absolutely anything barring giving an avenue to proclaim the same nonsense of an overly sensitive community, that is immune to feedback.
It's obvious to us since we know what the report options are. To someone who never saw it thought, possibly not.
I never did insult you? Just told ya how it looks from my point of view. I even went as far as to say I'm not calling you that. Either way, I'm not gonna keep going further. Have a good day.
Never change, forums, making an argument out of nothing lol
You mean to say that they did give a reason, which would in turn mean they were making a claim? Isn't that exactly what you were arguing with the other poster about?
I don't care about the validity of the claim or getting more information. I never said any of that. What I said was in regards to you stating false information. That was all. And now you just admitted you were wrong. Have a good day.
ThE cLaIm! We must think of the claim being made!
Jokes aside English is not my native tongue but aren't claim and reason closely related and don't many see them the same cause in a reason is the cause, but a claim is a claim, but at the core the claim is still the reason for the report? As per the OP the reason or claim for the report can be new healer harassment. Without the OP saying we cannot know for certain which form they meant it as, it could be used as the reason or claim in this context or at the very least that is how I see it.
Cause in ESL even our teacher treated them as two different concepts,
So in terms of everyday speech from the laymen isn't this a battle of semantics depending on how you view the OP's title of harassment towards new healers?
Waiting for the next years thread "Quitting because of harrasment for new dps". Please look forward.
I don't see why people harrass healers. We always need more healers out there since most players don't want to heal.
If a healer can't keep up with me as a tank then I just... slow down. The run will finish just fine.
What's the best is playing a healer and getting harassed by the tank because they keep dying. You check their gear to see they are wearing caster gear and no tank gear.
I got reported for not using kardia once, so I demanded context. And even then I don’t trust it. Probably warped to make the person be the root of all evil
While we all play the speculating / "I bet" game, let me join by saying that I bet people who say they are being reported only because of they're 'trying to help' is in actuality trying to cover up that they're acting like arseholes towards the people they're 'trying to help'.
See, we can play the whole thing this way too.
\[+]/ praise the fun. Amen brother.

I wont be replying to the other people as obviously the OP doesn’t have to reply but I was curious what she deemed harassment. People wield the ToS like a sword and shield at every little thing so we might have been able to steer then away from fale reporting in the future.
Don't bother with report, nothing happens.
Go to social > contacts, there you have a list of recent people you've played with. Right click and select "Add to blacklist".
You will never hear from them again.
Accidentally not using it right? Because if you go in a group and purposely choose not to use Kardia that is technically gameplay sabotage if the group is struggling (for a lack of a better term, being gameplay sabotage), especially if you meme'd it and said something like "Don't need it" (not saying you did).
