That's actually funny... the line isn't bad. He's the Carpenter GM, he has an obsession with wood, and they took off with it.
Clearly people don't remember Heavensturn 2014 and Haurchefant wanting to ride the WoL like a horse.
OP made 2 posts here and never came back and has a gif of an undressed Au Ra wearing demon wings...
Not really hard to say this shouldn't be taken seriously but why anyone is doing so is beyond me.
Nah most people are making fun at this point, because this is...well it's something. This game is so riddled with innuendos dating back to ARR that if you haven't seen them or heard of them by now you are either very new, or not prone to wandering about and paying attention.
Dunno how OP feels about StB because I don't care to dig around to find out but, there's also literally a roegadyn in Kugane wearing the solar summer trunks and they matched his skintone to them. To drive the point home, he even says "Feels like I'm wearing nothing at all." and a nearby midlander will say "Stupid sexy roegadyn..." when spoken to.
What you mean you don't like Beatin's wood, Aveyond?? :(
Oh man this was one of the funnier Heavensturns too. Please, take a gander at what 2014's Heavensturn was with Haurchefant wanting the WoL to ride him.
What makes it even better is that was the first time a lot of people had met Haurchefant. I still remember the confusion about his TT card referencing that Heavensturn. I think Haurchefant just really liked things you could mount as he's just as passionate about chocobos.
You all (whomever it applies to) just have really dirty minds, might need therapy with a psychologist.
It's been a really long time since ARR but I remember the woodworking guild master to always be kind of creepy level into wood.
Which i guess makes sense
Oh that is just hilarious. I haven't actually done that quest yet.
"North american translators overstepping their bounds to change stuff and try to be clever/creative instead of doing their jobs" usually grinds my gears but honestly I'm too exhausted to care.
Also I don't really remember those characters being involved on the event. Did I skip something?
Putting aside Beatin and his love of handling wood, there truly are many instances of the EN localization team making some fairly significant changes. Some such instances even go so far as to completely change the message and themes being conveyed.
I mean, it's a suggestive quote, which falls under suggestive themes. Not really an issue there. By itself it is amusing enough I suppose. I do think, however, that the placement and timing was kind of strange, sort of like some random person making a lewd comment in a crowd with many young ears around to hear them. Like, tone it down man.
Well Koji Fox etc. are known for butchering the english version of the game. Or does nobody find it weird that we hear dragons speak like Urianger even tho they use their own language and the echo should translate it normally? Or that Urianger speaks only in english like a guy from england a couple centuries ago. Or that we get so many spoilers in english, for which Koji Fox even got flak. Same as the starboard larboard disaster. Or that the dying Zenos only in english starts to ask you some random bs questions that never get answered instead of telling you that your life was so much better than his and that your life was a wonder. Instead you get a "Was your life good? Was it worthwile? Did you had fun?" <dies>
These stupid raunchy jokes are just the tip of the iceberg, you have no idea how much your experience actually gets butchered by some people mainly Koji Fox rewriting the game after their taste for odd dialects and strange words. Which is probably something you can expect from someone who was used to teach english etc. but we are here to enjoy a cohesive story.
I mean i am grateful that Koji Fox exists don't get me wrong, he is same as Yoshi P. one of the reasons why XIV was such a huge success and why SE is even alive right now. But he has way way too much sway over the translation of the game, way way too much.
Right because there totally aren't any instances of the use of a different Japanese dialect for one of the races or anything else in the other languages that make sense or are jokes for their target audiences. Also Koji hasn't been part of the localization staff since he got moved over to work on XVI. So the new member is just continuing with the personality the character has been given. Your opinion about how people talk in the English version is just that. There are many who like and love the English localization and many who'd agree with you.
As has been explained more than once in this forum the English localization tends to be aimed at the North American audiences so a lot of the jokes and references will be those that they vibe with. Now I've actually lived in two out of the three countries and can say that those two have similar understandings and enjoy the same things even if one uses the metric system and has a Prime Minister.
Heavensturn 2017 was particularly memorable as Year of the Rooster.
Who is in greater need of a therapist:
the person who recognizes word play for what it is, laughs and moves on; or
the person who recognizes word play for what it is, gets seriously offended and obsesses over it so much they need to point it out to everyone to make certain everyone knows what it is
Did you not go through the carpentry questline? Almost everything Beatin says can be misunderstood for innuendo.
That’s the joke.
Oh god, a lewd joke that only makes sense in English? Say it isn't so! They should directly translate the text from Japanese word for word and never consider how dialogue and humor differs between cultures.
Beat out the bad! Beat out the bad! Beat out the bad!
OP apparently didn't read the ESRB rating information for the game.

Basically. You were warned. Not paying attention to it is your own fault. This is a non issue.
So petty...

I'm done ever trying to take you seriously OP...
Grow up.
i think it's pretty tame compared to some other things in this game (arenvald's backstory, satasha being a literal sex dungeon)
Methinks someone hasn't done the Carpenter quests. Master *Beatin* always talks like that. And it's both a wink and a nod and literal. He's weird about wood. He couldn't understand during the Starlight event why the kids weren't excited until they were told his present was blocks instead of the odd way he referred to them.
No pic of the Saint's Wake Miqo from the early ones? I am disappoint...
There's also the whole Puff Puff CS for the DQ crossover which is a running gag for that whole series from the beginning.
Isn't this the same carpenter guy who aways says wild swizz about wood?
