Harsh ballsy Estinien back.
Harsh ballsy Estinien back.
Needless to say, this will contain some spoilers including up to recent EW MSQ:
I feel like I'll be parroting what a lot of people have already said, but basically:
- Someone with a hair color that isn't white/blonde/silver. I get that in anime hair color tropes corresponding to personality traits are a thing, but damn. If anything it speaks to how all of them have very similar personalities as well.
- Someone who shows personal motivations that don't necessarily align with the rest of the cast. Not necessarily to the point of fighting with other characters, but at least offering up alternative viewpoints and disagreeing with some of the takes of the others.
- Someone who actually dies instead of fake-dying if such a scenario ever shows up. Though this would admittedly make them fall into another trope that's become increasingly common; "Only villains and newly introduced characters are allowed to die because the scions and other prominent cast members are too marketable!"
- Someone who's a roe, hrothgar, or other race we've not seen a lot of in the main cast.
Follow-up wish:
I'd be 100% okay if they retconned the "fake disbanding" of the Scions and made it an actual disbanding, letting all of them take a big, humble step back and just stay as background characters for at least an expansion or two while a whole new cast of companions get to join in. I'm tired of the scions now, and no, Alisaie, smugly referencing how you think "heroic sacrifices are silly" does not make it funny or interesting when you follow through and do it right afterward. I felt ZERO tension when the scions started sacrificing themselves because I just know deep in my heart that who survives is a popularity contest, not what makes sense in the story.
Are we talking about a permanent addition?
Gaius Van Baelsar.
I’ve always enjoyed his story since Arr. Dutiful soldier wanting to bring peace and unity among the land. Twisted as it is. Fine line between lawful good and lawful evil.
Karasu from the Ninja questlines. Currently doing them with an alt and I missed how outlandish, silly, yet deadly this character was. xD
A Nymian Scholar or Marine. Since we'll probably be exploring both the New World and Mercydia, we'll like need a highly skilled navigator to cross the oceans and maybe even to get around the whole of the New World in particular. A Nymian navigator would make for a neat addition to our party. While it would more than likely mean more Lalafell in our party (which I wholly welcome for they are the best race!), it would also grant us the opportunity of introducing a new MALE Lalafell to our party. One that could maybe be the charismatic and blunt type that hits on Tataru and Krile, forcing the cowardly Wedge to finally stop being such a pathetic chicken simp and actually ask Tataru on a date already. Off topic, but I'm surprised Biggs and Cid haven't caught onto his crush of Tataru and forced the little dodo bird to finally grow a pair and act on his feelings already! xD
*cough* *cough* Graha *cough* *cough* Ysh'tola *cough*
Out of the currently existing characters, Gaius is probably the one I'd want the most. However, I think that if they were to do that, they should make the SHB weapon trials mandatory. I don't see that as a big ask either seeing as they already did that with CT for Graha.
I have three that I wish
1) gaius. That's it. I want him to join us.
2) a chaotic good character. Hmm maybe like Eugene from Tangled, but a bit more selfish and mercenary-ish
3) someone who's soft spoken, polite, noble, a bit aloof (at first). Strongly prefer if this is a female character with feminine trait (not tomboy like alisae). I guess the closest existing npc I can compare is kan-e-senna.
I agree with this, I want a little bit of crazy crazy, not too much like Sadu or someone who is just stupid like ARR Yda, but just someone who is a little wild to inject some fire into the too-perfectly-considered Scions. Someone who is on the unapologetic wild side (also not just bratty like early Alisae before she grew up).
Honestly, after Alisaie was introduced to the party, I thought she was meant to fill in that archetype, more or less. She still does have some of those characteristics, but it's pretty minor. Not that I don't like what she became, but still.
I would love to see a viera added to the party filling that chaotic-good vibe.
Add a Viera... Give it the Chaotic Waha alignment I put on one of my D&D characters... Yes... the DM put that in the big book of stuff I wasn't allowed to do anymore... It also made him pay more attention to details when reviewing character sheets before starting a new campaign... >.>
In terms of MSQ? Just give me a roegadyn and call it a day. They keep getting shoved in the background (quite literally if you look at some of the marketing artwork).
In fairness I should say they should introduce a Hrothgar into the team but I personally dont like nor care for them, but I know that they're even less represented in the game's narrative so they deserve their spotlight.
Seriously writing team, lets try to cut back the abundance of hyur, miqo'te and au ra characters. Especially the Au Ra, they're so overrated I swear.
Suddenly, A NEW MIQOTE TEAMMATE!
Someone who is equal to the Warrior of Light, and being a Vegeta-archetype except actually his friend/rival.
The WoL really doesn't have anyone equal to him except Zenos (and well Zenos was like a Vegeta, but for different reasons and his story is pretty much over).
WoL is always going for greater heights, but no one can really match him.
I would like a lawful evil. Estinian, which is the closest, is neutral at best. He used to be evil, but now he has evolved and is definitely not. All the others are variations of the good alignment (neutral, chaotic, loyal). Chaotic evil is out of the question for obvious reasons; but loyal evil is a character that can bring a very different view, while remaining RP consistent.
I would see an Ao'ra, from the steppes, who shakes up the logic of the group by bringing a very pragmatic and uncompromising point of view on the situation, inherited from his cultural differences. It would also allow for a more nuanced narrative, introducing the idea that good intentions sometimes lead to catastrophic results. By losing sight of the main objective, which the Scions tend to do by wanting to help everyone, we sometimes forget that one or two sacrifices can prevent millions of deaths.
Like everyone else, I would like a different hair colour; and especially not someone who worships WOL.
They should add another elezen with white hair just to mess with us.
A monster or non-humanoid of some description to join the team.
Zero's a part of the way there, but come on. Where's the Red XIII/Nanaki, or Umaro, or Quina, or Construct 8 (not the same 8 but you know what I mean)?
Hell, I'd even accept just a party member that filled in with the rest of the humanoid band if they were weird and out-there in some fashion, like Gau or Relm.
Fuck, we have canon ones already. Feo Ul has literally been begging for a chance to wreck face. Stop trying to make me a god damn tsundere and let me call on the fairy. She can be a dual-purpose White Mage / WHM-themed Magic DPS.
edit: removed Fusoya, forgot Lunarians were effectively just moon-people.
Yeah but didn't Fusoya just kinda deflate like a balloon to look like a puddle when he was KO'ed in battle instead of falling down like normal people?
How about another female Au'ra or Miqo'te except they used to be a Male Roe or Hrothgar and ended up that way very recently due to a mishap during an experiment? :P lol
someone who second guesses you at every step of the way nothing ever gets done xD
I'd like a Garlean engineer to join us. Maybe one of Cid's employees or the big man himself, or an Imperial engineer looking to make amends for all the tragedies the Empire had caused and so would like to do so by joining the WoL on their adventures.
If we go to Ilsabard in 7.x, I wouldn't mind seeing Gaius and/or Jullus as more prominent characters.
If they really wanted to think outside of the box, making one of the less human races play a more persistent role could also be interesting. Soroban and Matsya were about the most exposure any of the tribes got in the MSQ.
A new dragonoid race.. maybe?
The Gria from FFTA2? They'd be smallish probably about the size of a female au'ra with I think a slightly thicker tail, horns in a more typical location on the upper part of their head and dragon-like wings they can actually fly with. I believe they were described as cute but viscous due to a naturally fierce and competitive demeanor.
Back in ARR I was hoping Cid would stay as part of the band. Sadly it was not meant to be. I'm good with zero so far but I'm concerned she's already showing signs of turning idealistic too quick
Id have also liked Tataru as someone sweet but vicious and highly competent but alas she's now stuck with sidequests
-Odd as it sounds, I really hope Vrtra sticks around after this whole escapade in the void. Humble and driven by a simple but important goal.
-Like what others said, get someone like Gaius or pre EW Estinien in the group personality/goals wise
-merlwyb was fantastic when we had her and we need someone like her in the group. Ruthless good and acts instead of gawping.
-Someone like Moenbryda whose lively but serious when the chips are down. Driven not by ideology but by a desire to see their task through.
-A character that's stoic but warms up. Fran from ff12 or lulu from ff10. Zero started out promising but she's thawing into an idealist too fast.
ysthola being the mascot already covers the smarmy nerd side of things and is idealistic enough to balance the others
The scions main problems were too many idealists and too little variety in personality. I often wondered during the msq what the point of the twins and thancred were. Estinien was blackmailed into helping us poor bastard but at least he still had elements of the "good is not soft" approach even as EW slowly pigeonholed him into idealism.
Graha quite simply replaced thancred and alphinauds roles in a single stroke. His personality at his most idealisitc is the most insufferable of the lot but he really shines when he goes into exarch mode.
In terms of design
-No more white hair, elezen or miqote damn it
-Max 2 per race (ignoring the player)
-Gear and hairstyles that are worn is stuff obtainable by the player. Seeing hrothgar npcs with hair/face combos the players cant is annoying. Less stuff in the cash shop the better
-A viera would be nice, either gender is good.
-A roe or hrothgar, preferably female.
-If vrtra ISNT sticking around, get another au ra or two in, gender doesnt matter.
-Hyur, or lalafell male, just make sure they aren't the tank.
Mix the party in terms of height. Some big some small. Wol again can be anything (except a tall female au ra sadly without mods)
and personality while simultaniously providing foils to the scions and themselves. Have the character development more than just becoming idealistic. People get hardened by their trips too. Not everyone needs the same level of character development. Auron from FFX is a fantastic example. He goes through barely any in game but you still see how he changed in the backstory.
I had a vision, and it was Fordola becoming a Dark Knight. As for why she'd join the WoL on their adventures at this point though, I don't really have a good answer.
Sidurgu has about as much (or little, rather) reason to join the WoL as Fordola does. Strangely attached to a place and a people that ruined his life, that one... But realistically they're probably going to introduce entirely new companions rather than elevate old characters (like Estinien) to the status.
Oh we need older man too. I'm tired of teen protagonist syndrome.
Yes I know thancred is 32 and our WoL can be as old as possible, but canon-wise I want an older, mature, wiser mentor type.
