I rolled an alt on Merilith. I want to see how the server comes together and if its a fit for me. If not I will try another one. If none of them work out for me I will move my OCE characters to either Exodus or Phantom (one to each actually). Since I will be paying for the transfers I can afford to be picky.
I chose Marilith. It's small!
I picked it because I am hoping that once the initial rush is past it will be the smallest server. I vastly prefer small servers where I can go off and do my own thing without running in to too many people.
As of earlier the lowbie zones are flooded but that will pass in a day or 2 and it will be much easier to get things done.
FC gotten to level 6 in under 12 hours... Glam and stylist and retainers up.
Saw onions drop from 200,000 to 100,000 in a day, so that's good - considering Universalis is down. (Maduin if your onion prices are too high)
Now working on gathering. Then crafting will come after that.
And I need to start SGE and RPR yet.
Made my alts immediately at launch and leveled them all to 15 to quickly get the All Saint's goodies during the 5 hour window between DC launch and the end of All Saint's :D
2 are now ready to get a house.
I'll be making an alt there to replay the MSQ for the road to 80 buff, but I'll probably wait until the second batch of worlds is released. I hope it fares better than Materia did, I haven't heard good things for it.
Was just on. Dynamis was very much a ghost town. Absolute dead servers outside the NA peak. 2 parties looking for a tank.
I htink its a case of - anyone who creates a character there will be away travelling from the DC a lot of the time. Tumbleweeds were in Limsa already.

PVP wasn't queuing and it was prime time. Going to take a bit for the DC to get on it's feet but I have little doubt these NA servers will fill. I'm about to transfer my alt and perhaps get a FC started to get that timer running.
I moved my 2 from Materia over this morning. I really enjoyed playing on Marilith yesterday and my ping is so good there I made the decision and moved the materia characters. I prefer quiet small servers so I can deal with it being slower.
I plan on moving my alt to Marilith this weekend.
Remember folks, it's a brand new DC and will take time to fill up. Have patience and don't transfer out to an older DC as soon as you can because it's "dead". Just wait until the next big population spike with its attendant gigantic queues on the more populated DCs...
Tbh I thought about it, but...nah lol
Yep, we saw the same thing on Materia. There are long login queues and a wild landgrab for names like "Thancred Waters" "G'raha Tia" and so on during the first day, for the next few weeks a lot of daytime activity still as people get an alt to 30 for the free 1,000,000gil and the once off 15 days free playtime, then it settles right down, and becomes nicer too. All those popular names get bored and head back to their mains in other DCs. Leaving mains and alts who love small server feel (which is awesome for me) and those alts making the most of road-to-80 and get as many classes up as possible.
After the name-grab period ended Materia servers were also 0 limsa for a while, but now 10 months later have built up a population all hours of the day. To the point people de-rez. And yes, materia servers were also 2 parties need a tank in the first few months as I saw on Dynamis, that is now up into the 50s or 60s during peak. Dynamis will get there eventually, a year or 18 months most likely before it starts to feel a bit fuller.
It does take time, all new servers do; Raiden, Alpha and the other 2 in EU have - even spriggan did - but Dynamis has the advantage of DC travel that Materia doesn't yet have. That travel does help make the MB smooth and it lets raiders forced onto the server travel to other places to do their instant copied factory queues that they seem to love so much.
Do we know how long the free transfers to Dynamis are going to be around? Seriously considering giving up a large and going there but want some time to think about it.
Best guess would be much longer-term (all of this year and some/most of next?), certainly not anything close. But it's not been said officially. Yoshida-san did say there was allocated budget for more servers on it before 7.0 so those would be new status even if the existing 4 flip to preferred.
Made a new character on Hali and am surprised at how much bonus there is. Was leveling 3 jobs and am still ahead of the MSQ level with doing nothing but it. Probably going to end up sending an actual alt over so I can have enough gil to buy a house in the first lottery as the servers seem really popular and I have concerns about how many lotteries it will take before they fill up.
That being said, starting a new character has been pretty fun and actually made me want to play again, but we'll see how long I last.
Hmm, i guess results will vary. Limsa has been pretty full every time I run through.
Now, the queue times have been iffy for me - even as a healer. Had an expert roulette go into the 15 minute range, I tried for a random level 50 dungeon for my alt, and that was a 30+ minute queue (also as a healer..). I imagine that will only improve with time, but for now I've been popping back to the old DC when I want a quick queue. :p
Marilith ususally has a decent ammount of people in Limsa, and Seraph has been having enough to hit the max characters rendered setting the game has for me.
By the standards of other datacenters yeah theres not as many players...but duh thats the point.
Popping back is so good when time is short - but I personally hope that people don't get in the habit of it (not saying you did this, just general thoughts) It's great for when it really needs to be quick run due to time constraints, but I think it's healthier for the new DC if people do try and wait it out when possible. If the queues are as good as possible with a small population then more people will come, and the queues will get better. But if too many people become impatient and just stay on Aether or Crystal for everything, then the servers will be dead and empty.
One thing that did surprise me a lot was road-to-80 carries over to the old datacentres. I'd actually love to see SE remove that, so it's only active on the home datacentre. I think it would help keep people on the DC when they are not short on time.
Dynamis clones ready for action

I haven't been off Jenova in 8 years so it's my first time exposed to the "Road to" buffs and holy moley. I feel like every quest dings me. I've done mostly MSQ and my MRD quests, with a handful of side quests early to get the gear to get past that one MSQ quest where you need level 5 in all slots plus get a bit of gil for teleports. But I'm 24 just leaving the first city and have only done MSQ since like level 8, lol.
As expected on a new DC, Onions are unusual right now, hehe.... Hint - check all 4 MBs before feeding your choco! Unless you like throwing gil to the wind
Maduin: 95,000
Halicarnassus: 144,997
Seraph: 170,000
Marilith: 209,997
It's very fast, for sure. All the buffs like FC XP and rest XP also counts for a lot when stacked with it.
Biggest mistake I ever made going to Seraph. It's like clown college, all the miscreants from other servers came here. HELP! Now I'm stuck for 3 months on this shitty world.
I can queu for Raids etc doing this? If so, thank you very much. I hate this DC. I hate the fact that I feel like I am being held against my will by these so called programmers. It's just not right.
yes you can queue for anything and can also join PF for things. you can also join cross world linkshells (but can only use them on the data center you’re visiting) as well as freely use MB. you can’t join FCs or retainers as said above though.
i hope things settle down and you can eventually enjoy it, if not, then DC travel is your temporary solution.
OCE DC 2, Electric Boogaloo!
It's not gonna be as bad as OCE, come on now. We're in a dead period between patches so the only ones still around are housing fanatics, roleplayers and some raiders doing old content. I expect Dynamis to grow when the next patch launches and people come back from their breaks.
Surprisingly, a lot of people actually is in Seraph. Imo it's like the next Balmung. It's still lively even after I checked today, as lively as any world in Crystal imo. It's just a bit slower in terms of having more sprouts to run content since most players are still in ARR or HW while the rest are Lv 90 transfers. Dunno about the other worlds though.
Oh these NA worlds will populate very well. There is no comparing the situations between Materia and Dynamis. Seraph is already having issues with people unable to make characters during the day. North American servers have been way to populated and thinning them out is a smart move by SE.
OCE on the other hand needs help and DC travel would help them immensely in my view. They will either need to offer them that or merge OCE with another DC if things don't improves drastically in my view. I still think it's not too late to move a couple fully populated Japanese servers to OCE and make a couple new ones in Japan. Bottom line is I don't see SE letting OCE languish for too much longer if things aren't going to improve.
They will be forced to take action.
What exactly is wrong with Seraph? I spend time there in Limsa and the crowds are amazing. I don't see them or the action much different than other DC's I have characters on. The only issue at the moment is Duty Finder and that will take time to fill out but as was suggested you have the opportunity to DC travel to get content done that doesn't want to pop on the new DC.
