You know I kinda find it funny because they already said they were going to scale down the graphics due to the ps3's lack of capability and it's lower video card. Plus Is it just me or wasn't there issues with the graphics being too much and overloading even the highest end video cards? seriously I'm glad they're lowering the graphics I love a beautiful looking game but I want as many people as possible to play it. Also I don't want to kill my video card even though I have a decent one.
Ignore their complaining and don't let it get to you remember they wouldn't know a good thing if it bit them in the a$$.
Actually the lighting, shadowing and dynamic effects all look better in that screen than they do in those released, but if you want to nit-pick about what the grass looks like then by all means please carry on. If thats what is SUPER important to you as a gamer, to each his own.
Gameplay> Looks nuff said. You can argue about "Graphics all you want" but when it comes down to it, its the content and gameplay that matters.
Most of us complain about FFXIV for a reason, so a little sacrifice ( little downgrade of graphics) has to be made to achieve what were all after. and I don't honestly see a Graphical difference, but then again I'm not a Graphics whore, because I love gameplay over anything else. I love graphics sure.. but if it takes away from the game, then no Thank you.
did someone say... copy/paste?

Better foliage and what not than entire chunks of landscape at a time, but I could be jumping the gun on that, we will have to wait and see what the walkthroughs of the terrain look like before I can say for certainty they havent repeated that mistake. Considering they moved to having zones because that was a major complaint, I would be very suprised if they did that again. I can live with cloned cacti, but no thanks on the cloned canyons and valleys.
From an old interview
http://ffxiv.gamerescape.com/2011/10...-is-out-there/Quote:
Gamer Escape: 2.0 is going to be a new client, new servers, new engine. Is this still a form of Crystal Tools? Is this the Luminous engine? What can you tell us about that? Is there going to be support for Direct X 11?
Yoshida: First of all.. the current engine like Crystal Tools or the Luminous project, are made more for console games where they’re able to show the greatest level of graphics in a passive environment whereas an MMO is an active environment where, while you still want it to look beautiful, you also have many many people coming together in the same world. You have something like MW3 where the graphics are beautiful but what would happen if you had like 3 or 400 people on the screen at once. Would the engine be able to handle that? So what we wanted was something that could handle more of an active gameplay that we’re aiming for but also be able to provide beautiful graphics and landscapes. We found that Crystal Tools and Luminous would not be the optimal solution for this so that’s why we’re going to develop our own.
One of the reasons we had some trouble with the original launch of FFXIV was because we went through Crystal Tools and it was an engine that wasn’t really optimized for an MMO and so we’re currently working with technologists that are working on Luminous to make us a custom, optimal engine that will work for FFXIV.
As for DX 11, the first thing the dev team feels we have to do after the release of 2.0 is have a graphics engine that can accommodate the high-end computers and let those players have the highest quality graphics, smooth playability and a lot of different characters on screen- not the 40 we have now but having lots of characters displayed without having performance lag. But we’re also looking at the users with lower end computers as well and being able to create a system where you don’t have to have a high end PC to play. It also means having a system that will also handle the PS3 hardware as well that you have and just because it’s on the PS3 doesn’t mean it’s going to have lower quality. Maintaining quality for all three platforms- for high-end, low-end and PS3 and having an engine that will support this is what we’re aiming for with 2.0 and once that’s completed, and we hope to have that completed for 2.0, the next step will be to get the game ready for DX 11. So it’s in our schedule but we decided to make sure we had those three things covered by 2.0 and pushed back DX 11 for now. It’s not off the table thought and definitely the next thing we do after this.
I honestly think with the gaming community that there are many who just don't feel complete if they cannot complain about something.
Example:
1. "Ugh the game lags", so we get an update with much better detail but lower quality textures. So people complain OMG my textures ; ;
2. "We want FFXI jobs (BLM,WHM,DRG,WAR,etc)", So we get many of those jobs. So people complain that we don't have THF, Nin, SAM, etc.
I could go on forever on these examples. This is just another example.
My understanding on the complaint with copy and paste was that you would pass and area and run a little ways then pass that same area again but in a different place. That was a reasonable complaint.
However do you actually expect them to make 1000s of individual cacti? seriously?
Just about every game out there reuses land pieces. The trick is that when you go from area to area they are not all placed in the same place but just rotated or something. Also as long as there are variances in the land much of this will not matter.
I was just imagining what that screen would look like if there were a few ants thrown in, and my heart skipped a beat a little lol. The landscape will drastically alter how dynamic the game feels once we see how the mobs look in it. Imagine not seeing a mob because a cactus was in the way, it certainly offers up the chance for more realistic gameplay. If they gotta copy and paste tree's to get this effect, then by all means lol
I dunno, half the saguaro's I see in the vast landscape of the desert look pretty similar to me in real life. Though you do see those occasional few that stand out and are simply awesome. The new Thanalan kinda looks like Arizona or something to me, which is pretty cool. Maybe some of this will get tweaked and moved around when it's not in an alpha/beta phase, but I'm not going to go crazy either way about a couple of cacti. Still, currently happy to see what we can see so far, the forest looks absolutely beautiful; vast and thick, but pretty open, without just...walled paths/mazes.
I can't wait to explore these places and see them in real time.
guys... this is still a pre-alpha.. prolly running on a laptop... and much more we don't know settings...
Let's see more in motion before complaining ok :D ?
I am unkeen to answering or even fully reading threads that follow certain trends because they are aggravating to me. However I do feel the need to point ou that in the thread you refer to, it consisted of exactly one against being obnoxious beyond measurement, which caused dozens upon dozens of responses because nobody can leave a dissenter alone.
I think the game looks better, way better. :)
The texture quality is lower *in these screen shots* than the current game, however I think these screens overall look better and seem a lot more organic than the current game. I do also strongly believe that if someone has a high spec system that their game in 2.0 will look much crisper than these screens and will probably have much better AA, hell I can force 32xAA in Nvidia control panel and also higher quality textures so I'm not too worried. But I think these are standard settings on PC and probably what the game will look like on ps3.
You're the second person to say this. I've read more than one thread. And I'm not only on this website. I've seen more than one person complain about the textures/graphics; even in game! Do you honestly think I'd make a new thread because of one person?
That aside, I agree with what the majority of the people have been saying here. People will find something to complain no matter what direction the game goes. So it's best just to ignore them. I had a temporary moment of weakness after knowing all the hard work that YoshiP and his crew have put forth into a game that the majority of gamers consider a "lost cause".
could be worse, could be like runescape
in the end, theres 1 thing to think about
does the game look good? yes
does it matter how its graphiocs compare to other games? no it doesnt
what is the final factor we will all be truely dependant on? grameplay
so yes the game looks pretty, cant wait to feel how the game plays, i mean right now i love how the game plays, and the direction theyve gone in for the most part, curious to see what else theyve done that will really matter
Well the game have traded High Quality texture for High Quality Ambiant atmosphere. the screens are pretty fine to me.
Honestly I think XI on high settings looks better than a lot of MMORPGs to this day.
The reports that I have read from those who actually have seen 2.0 have reported that the visual are beautiful. I personally see no problem, and I bet when we see it live we will be impressed.
I think it's the engine behind it that is the big difference they're telling us. You can use many different engines and achieve the same effect. Knowing SE's past games from all way-back-when, I'm guessing the new graphics engine will be faster, and they'll capitalize on it in some interesting way. Ala-rendered-backgrounds on the PS, and the FX-chip in the SNES.
I think I also read somewhere that it will be made for lower and higher end machines, so people don't have to get a rig that can play the game at 1080p on three monitors, but giving us the option to do so. They're showing us some of the best shots they have at the moment from that engine.
Its just a problem with the pc playerbase in general. If this was a game for strictly the ps3 then everyone would be pissing themselves over how amazing it looks, especially for an mmo. Unfortunately, since its on pc alot of the players care about maxing out their settings, and this is the biggest problem with the pc player base in general, and it has been ever since the fisrt crysis was released. When games come out now on pc its not a question of how good it looks to the average buyer, its all about how good it can look on a 2000 dollar machine with 3 graphics cards linked together and liquid nitrogen cooling (I am exaggerating here, I figured i would point that out since some of you won't get that). The reality of it is it doesnt matter, but for the past few years, no matter what game it is, if it has decent graphics 50% of what the people playing the game care about is how much better they can make it look by pushing their pc to the limit.
I'm sure than in motion, the dynamic lighting will pay off. I'm assuming all of the various leafs and shrubbery sway in the wind, right? And to see the shadows follow suit will give the game quite the atmosphere
Still, I do hope the textures and AA are a bit better on 'max' settings, whatever those happen to be
This Report here
"All the screens we've seen thus far have been from the PC version, said Yoshida. The quality will go up by about 15% from what we're seeing now."
Good enough for me~
You guys realize this is a handful of trolls riling up the entire base, right? I mean, I could litterally take a college ruled piece of paper, write the names of the nay-sayers down, and likely not hit the bottom of the page?
That's how sharp of a minority the complainers are.
Heck, if it wasn't borderline harassment, I'd make that list for all to see.
lol i'am still complaining about the content. Horrible design for doing content for a Multi player game-... MMO come on se.. it's not a XBOX 360 game where you enter a chat room meaning the world of xiv and enter a dungeon with only 8 players total..
this game make me feel like it's a small game inside a huge pointless chatroom.
I know everyone else has stated this but it is the reason video games arent what they used to be. It used to be how well they PLAYED now its all about how good they look. its a stupid travesty that started in the ps2 era. Seemed for a while nintendo didnt care about graphics but looking at the wii u now, either they want to compete with this gen or they too have succumbed to only caring about graphics in their games.
It's not a bad thing to point out grievances.
I'm pretty sure the development team wants feedback.
The reason the wiiU is like that now is because Nintendo went way in debt with the wii, the wii was a diva system and Nintendo should of known that ignoring there core audience was going to bite them in the end. If the wiiU doesn't bring back the core audience that they ignored during the wii than they are going to have to declare bankruptcy.

like i said the wii is a diva system where as xbox 360 is a high hitter and playstaion 3 is a slow roller. Plus Marketing research for the past 3 years in my marketing classes trending all 3 systems for my final thesis statement in class kinda helps my case out to.
There is also litterer thousands of more sources that you can find on your own those are just some of the most recent ones just Google it and you'll find out how horrible a shape Nintendo is in thanks to the Nintendo Wii and the Nintendo 3DS.
You misunderstand me, I want proof that Nintendo is going bankrupt.
I'm aware that they had a loss last year.
I am absolutely THRILLED about the new graphics. Honestly, I didn't even notice the downgrade, but instead the new visual art style. It is crisp and it blends well, rather than juxtaposes itself, which I've noticed with some areas like 1.0 Thanalan. When I further glanced at it, it seems to have this hint of an acrylic style, which I fell in love with. I cannot, CANNOT wait for 2.0 after these screenshots. The game seems to take on a new beauty, one that speaks out to those in a positively aesthetic manner.
