How do you guys deal with online drama?

You're paying to play this game, and how you play it is really up to you. If people can't respect that and are rude to you, then they're not worth playing with. There are so many well-mannered, good-humoured people who you can play with instead, and there's so much fun to be had once you get into a friendly LS that accepts you for who you are. A lot do not tolerate rudeness and will be able to keep the airwaves clean :) after all, this is a game, and you want to have a good time. You want to make friends. If someone is bothering you, explain that you're sorry and that it was a misunderstanding. If they continue to be nasty, then politely say you don't want to be spoken to like that, and move on. If they persist and do not apologise, well, yea, blacklist, and continue to enjoy your time in XIV-world. Just don't let it get to you, because there are some really inconsiderate people out there, and you don't deserve to be dragged into their nonsense.

A good rule of thumb is if its an LS member or a friend then you should always assume they are joking, they will make it clear enough if you play along and they are not. At that point is when you decide to ignore them.

While I agree that some people take things too seriously, I believe that if someone signs up to a linkshell that's clearly serious business, then yeah, he better treat it as serious business or not join it at all.

I think using neutral language may help some of the misunderstandings. Not all of them howe'er.

Same phrases and colloquialisms don't mean the same thing even in the same language. And the timing.

On a more innocent level, someone asked me for a "sharpy". I handed him a knife. I thought it was his fun way of saying something sharp, but I didn't know that's what people call markers made by the company Sharpee.

The knife may have slipped into his chest when I was handing it to him. Thirty seven times. On accident of course.

I can giggle about the incident, but while I'm in my tender moment of embarrassment, punishing myself for the shame, if someone were to have a condescending tone with a remark such as (i.e. am I on drugs? Did I finish the fifth grade? Did I drop soap in front of a roegadyn inmate?), I might react more defensively than usual.

Setting the record straight, the answer to all those questions is NO. It wasn't soap, it was Gath's gil.

The second individual you describe sounds more like the type of person that takes offense when you don't do things their way. He's the fun guy at the party that somehow gets everyone into a fun card game. People start playing, having fun, then he whoops out money and wants to raise the stakes. Most of us don't want to play now and he gets offended. Having spent the time to organize the card game and teach us the rules, he feels entitled to our time, our wallets, and subligar. No sir.
