Yeah the whole thing is not really about being rewarded an island, it's about Merwyb, now that there's peace in the world and she can afford the time to take care of it, making those areas usable, and Tataru using you as workforce for it. Tataru is lovely but she's the meanest CEO. She sells you an unpaid job as a vacation.
Anyway the whole peace in the world status didn't happen before the end of EW. Hell, even peace in La Noscea didn't happen till the end of ShB, considering the beast tribes were still tempered and fighting before, and pirates were still kicking. It's not really about receving a reward, but about having the world in such a state were devoting your time to farm some island is not just a waste of time that would be better spent elsewhere.
It's also funny, when there's threads saying how long the msq is, asking for a second access point or a skip to get to endgame faster, everybody says story is all that matters in his game, how it's a journey and not a destination, and how you can just do endgame later and it doesn't matter. Now suddenly some secondary content, which is solo so it literally doesn't matter if you do it now or in a few years, unlike endgame, is more important than story, so much that people not only want it right away but also they want story to be bent/changed to accomodate them getting it asap. What about doing what you preach, and just enjoying the ride and you'll get there when you get there? Or suddenly it doesn't work?
