Viera For The Win~ 27.3%

Eh - why do we need a new race? Nobody needs it and its too much work for the devs.
If they implement female Viera, they have to implement male too.

More variety with the races we have would be perfect for me.

Like I've said before, In a fantasy world I don't want to be a human or a "human with a tail/distinguishing physical feature." I want to be something completely different. I spend enough time playing a human in real life.

Nope. If you read the forums from way back in the day, I requested new races and asked for Viera to be a contender. Played Final Fantasy Tactics and always had them in my parties because of the jobs that were available to them. I just said all that mumbo jumbo to troll.

Sorry, that isn't quite how things work ;) I just wanted to point out that you can't say "a majority of players feel like Viera/mammalian beastmen should be added'. Because they don't.

They did receive the most votes though, so now the devs knows that much. Like Yoshi said about jobs...it will be interesting to see what new races they add. (notice the non commitment)

Lol I know. Was just trolling you. It would suck for them to ask this question and not even implement one in time for 2.0. You know how many people will want to change again when they release it since they are basically announcing a new race?

As far as classes go, we need more than just summoner added. I hope that they will add more at the release of 2.0 and continue with the two that are already in game. I'm looking at you Muskateer and Archanist

Well how about letting people know what you really think intsead of posting "mumbo jumbo." It might not be as entertaining but you would be understood a lot better. People shouldn't have to look "way back in the day" to figure this out.

Some people might actually want to have an intelligent discussion, shocking as it may sound.

With the way these forums run half the time, that seems impossible lol like how people are calling Viera lovers "morons" and "unimaginative" when the polls specifically stated vote for which you prefer.

Well you know I posted why a Viera type race could fit into Eorzea a bit ago that everyone is ignoring, they will fit into the black shroud very well, and with their xenophobic nature they can also add a different beastmen clan.

Viera could hear the forest, and they could make a lot of lore based on what we have now, and not to mention a hidden Viera home in the black shroud, that we cannot see nor access until SE choses otherwise.

Manly -M. Roegadyn, Highlander
Beastly - Roegadyn, Keepers of Moon
Cute - F. Keepers of the Sun, Lalafell
Mischievous - Lalafell, Miqote
Stylish - M. Miqote, M. Elezen, F. Hyur
Even tempered - Midland Hyur.
Stoic - F. Roegadyn, Elezen

I think what we need is:

Mysterious - "Viera"-type (although, the Padjal might fight this category as well)

Indeed I would not mind something similar to the Viera as a new beastmen(beastwomen?) race. Being an NPC only race, the devs could spend less than 1/8 of the time making a few character models and a few clothes models for them, instead of having to go the full distance and redesign all the player gear that exists to fit their proportions. They could also keep them female-only with few complaints.

Actually, all gear 99% is the same, it is just deformed for each race. To add a new humanoid race just requires setting up the deformations and all the gear will automatically be adjusted.

If the devs tried to add something that wasn't specifically humanoid in shape (ie. Bangaa, Ivalice Moogle, Nu Mou, etc), then yes, it would require rebuilding all gear.

If they do decide for a Viera beastmen race it would work very well, just a little bit of lore I can come up with off the top of my head "The Viera are a race who have lived in the twelveswood for as long as anyone can remember, it is said they have become so attuned with the forest they can even hear what it is trying to say. They also believe the city states seek to destroy the forest and because of this they have become enemies of Gridania also any Viera who seek to join the main city states are seen as outcasts and if they return to *insert Viera town name* they will be executed as traitors."

Thats off the top of my head, SE can come up with alot more but it shows the Viera's love of the forest, there xenophobia and how much they despise others. If I can come up with that SE can make solid Viera lore.

Don't get me wrong. I don't "hate" the viera. I do however, hate people taking this poll out of context. The poll choice was not "Viera", it was simply an example.

My objection to the Viera is mainly on the basis of two things:

- that we already have one female sex symbol race. Do we really need another one? I don't see anyone linking any pictures of a male Viera, which tells my why many people want one and voted for it. I do however respect them as a type of race that isn't heavily overused in fantasy (e.g. compared to cat people).

- that people voted for this over more human-like races. As i've said multiple times in the past, I'd rather have races that are less human. Not necessarily animalistic, but not a race with a standard human flesh color, standard human face and limbs, and just some extra feature like a tail or weird ears or a big nose.

Granted, as I said before- Viera was just an example and this poll doecen't necessarily mean they're putting them in the game (or putting anything in particular in the game for that matter)- But I think name dropping viera corrupted the poll where if it wasn't mentioned, that choice wouldn't have gotten as many votes.

I guess you would like Ronso? That would be a nice addition to FFXIV as well, but the blue Taint should switch to something more "dark'ish".. like some brown'ish-red.

That's not entirely accurate. It's more true than it was in FFXI, but some gear models just dont work on certain races without some modifications. Nearly every headpiece, body and leg armor model for the galka was a distinct model not a deformation because of the way the character model was designed (In particular, the Galka were the only race where the arms were seperate from the torso, which together with the tails, forced differences in the body armor models). Mithra body armors tended to have significantly different models as well. Tarutaru and elvaan had significantly different feet models because of their height and size.

Hmm, I'll look for the deformations then. Regardless, emotes and character customization options need to be considered too , it's a decent amount more work.

Do you really have a problem with more options?

It's not that Viera is going to be the ONLY added race... it's just the one the dev team will most likely implement first. I honestly don't want just Viera but all of the options added eventually. I think the dev team decided to poll to see which they would release first.

Viera is an FF race, much like the other options out there. I don't care about the actual race name, just the general traits/features/style. I think Yoshi learned the dangers of name dropping, and will probably rethink the wording of future poll questions.

See this is the problem: People get so anal about someone suggesting good FFXI features or aspects (cuz its the OTHER FF MMO that SE developed) and will say "want FFXI play FFXI" yet somehow it's perfectly acceptable to suggest/request Ivalice races and story elements..which not only makes a lot of the community hypocritical, it also proves most people are just biased. I mean, Ivalice spans Final Fantasy Tactics/Final Fantasy Tactics Advance and Vagrant Story...does Ivalice races really need to expand into Eorzea?

Yes it was an example, however I am saying how it could tie into the lore which you are completly ignoring especially if SE decide for beastmen over a playable race, or if they have a playable race and beastmen which could also work because of a Viera's xenophobic nature.

That's not bad, I could get on board with something like that. One of my favorite races SE has created (beyond the Yukes) isn't from a FF game. There's these giant fish-like guys in The Last Remnant that I thought were really fun. I don't have it installed right now so I don't have a pic handy though. But if you've played the game at some point, you probably know what I'm talking about.

We should get a race of hulking bear-like creatures.

You can say what you would like.... but I said "I honestly don't want just Viera but all of the options added eventually." Not that we WILL be getting them. I would expect at least 2 races though, even if they aren't playable.

Truth is, the world of Eorzea knows nothing about the outside regions. This opens up the world for any race that SE wants to add. Even Magitek Chainsaw Bears.
