Mayhap you're interested in server transfer? :)
I don't really see what makes one server so special that they deserve this treatment. Maybe it's because I have very little attachment to my server currently, but if this happened to Goblin, I'd just spend time on another server/DC.
Everyone knows Balmung is the "Goldshire" of FF14.
It is what it is.
You can always transfer out of that degeneracy cesspool.
Neither is bad outside of specific areas (or at least Moon Guard wasn't as of when I quit playing WoW, who knows now).
It's the whole "if it's RP it must be ERP" attitude that creates the problem.
I saw much worse in public channels on Siren when I was playing an alt there than I've ever seen on Balmung.
I have lots of RP alts on Balmung. I learned the hard way early on to turn on the /busy tag any time I have to wander into Ul'dah. Doesn't matter what the character is, it will get hit on by a thirsty catboy.
Please...please lock Balmung visits. It was bad enough in Shadowbringers, but now... if our server is already congested then why bog it down more? If I didn't have a house on Balmung, I'd even move to a lower pop server...I had no idea what kind of reputation this place had when I joined, and now I'm stuck here...but half the time the server is too full of wanderers/travelers to get much done! All I could think when world visits were announced, was that I hoped against hope that Balmung would be locked against this since it's already so full.
Please please first tell your Balmung playerbase that emoting on each other in the streets isn't that normal and paying billboards to advertise ERP venues isn't that normal either. Or selling ERP in the streets. And so much more. Maybe then your server stops being a absolute freakshow that everyone wants to visit.
Asking for balmung to be locked??? Anyone remeber when Balming players were asking for it too be unlocked
Honestly I enjoy it. Bring everyone over and check it out. I don't mind if I have to wait a bit longer. I'm a big fan of chaos and Balmung is reeking of it.
Wonder if SE should extend cross-travel to cities in expacs (but not the latest one), so Ishgard, Kugane and Crystarium. It might reduce some congestion of players just standing around the Aetherytes in the current starter cities. Would people take advantage of this perhaps, hmm....
LMAO at this. The fact you honestly think that SE would give one server special treatment. Regardless if some of the supposed things that happen on balmung are overblown to a minor degree, it most definitely isn't UNTRUE. You had an ERP FC put up a BILLBOARD. Those are your people that did that on your server to directly coincide with cross data center travel and before they got all the negative blowback, were actively attempting to get Asmongold, Zepla and other MAJOR FFXIV streamers to attend. With all the drama surrounding just THAT, you're gonna have excessive visits to the server. Thank your own people for causing it.
No, when Asmongold showed up, they did not do anything about server congestion for the server he joined other than enforcing the actual rules and banning the people harassing him. They didn't lock the server from travel, they didn't lock the server for anything. The only thing that got those servers locked for new characters was when they reached the population threshold to designate the servers as congested. No server has gotten special treatment.
Maybe it's different for other people, but when I go to log in on Balmung, the wait time is like less than a minute and the queue's got 40 people at most. Only Ul'dah is basically unusable at this point, so if you used it for (E)RP, then yeah, you got kinda screwed by tourists. But everywhere else has been virtually identical, so I really couldn't care less atm.
Maybe if you use uldah for ERP, just migrate somewhere else for a week until the tourists get bored, I guess. Sucks, but it's better than being in uldah as it is now, or waiting on SE to do anything about a single town.
A few idiots also doesn't mean that they will lock down your server to make a handful of players happy either. The RP community as a whole on Balmung made that server famous within the community YEARS ago. If you don't like the server's reputation or the fact that it draws in spectators, $20 can get you a home on another RP type server like Mateaus that's more chill.
No u! But like really smoll Hroth, without hair :D

Also, thank you for entertaining some of my questions I've had ;)
No one can hear you /tell in The Quicksands.... >:3
I joined Balmung via the Fabul server merge back in 1.0, so I didn't really pick a server for RP- but to me having increase bards, people hanging out in towns, etc, it's nice backdrop to my gaming, and as a casual player I don't have issues with DF (I used to do savage in DF long ago, and I found that painful and not a good use of my time lol-- as people had a hard time learning mechanics, but since dropping that my enjoyment of the game increased significantly). I know that is true for many places, but you can see the lower clear rates on the more casual oriented spaces (on the other side we absolutely destroyed the Ishgard restoration lol). Though I know I could use PF if I really wanted to do that content, but I just really dislike / don't enjoy the idea and act of shouting / advertising for content (so I generally don't use PF unless it's like a hunt or an almost full party for something I wanted to do).
Anyway, for me- a non-rp player, I feel Balmung has been quite nice. Gives my world space activity, and for the content I tend to do, and SE's design style, I can do what I want to do.
I feel bad for yall tbh. but it will calm down once this whole billboard mess is over with. the shine will wear off and people will go back home. that billboard thing really screwed yall tho cause people were going to see what the fuss was about. I haven't server visited at all, I'm waiting for it to bust and people to be stuck for a few days like last time on aether lmao.
I doubt they will lock Balmung but if the Billboard thing does happen, considering how much publicity its getting. [Asmon saying he will attend.] SE could use this as an its free real estate "stress test". Good luck.
-This is also fair gain for streamers to monetize as well.
That server has nobody to blame but themselves for this lol
They should put restrictions to some travels... Not sure what restrictions though.
please dont lock i have a party to go to saturday 8pm cst at rain nightclub
Any bets on whether Balmung is the first to get disabled as a destination this Saturday?Quote:
Please note that in order to prevent server outages or issues with the Data Center Travel system itself, depending on the situation we may temporarily suspend the system again for individual Worlds
Remove the 2B Leggings and Dhalmel Shirt, and Balmung ERP will go down statistically. >.>
Looks like their plan to draw the crowd did what it was suppose to do. You can watch it on twitch.
Balmeme is the Florida of the XIV servers.
And I will never not love it.
Omg, Balmung is the Florida of ff14. I love it.
Now we need Balmung Man memes
