What a wonderful place. No wonder why I prefer spending my time there >: D

Unless you become an Admin and use your powers for bad & personal gain....I will come in here and "say it's not worth it"
Im not here to ""disparage the queer community,"" or Trans Community/'Non-binary, LGBT+ community (I wish ya'll would decide on one name)
But I will point out the fact that you said that you know ""how much work this would be, and how unreasonable, and how little it's needed"" then continue to say, ""I *know* that it is a lot of work, 10+ years of dialogue, and that the people who need this are a minority""
So if you say all of that and Acknowledge the workload of you're request...why ask for it?
Knowing that its a request that might also take away from other things the game needs that would satisfy a much greater Audience? Getting headgear working on the Viera and Hrothgar for instance, Game Engine Upgrades, and job Balance, just to name a few.
This request for Pronouns would take away from the actual game improvements, in place of satisfying personal wants over improving the the game itself.
Its general forums, what else do you expect?
Also you can’t judge anyone right away if they display a certain disagreement with it which otherwise you or others may interpret as anti oppressive
No game should further cater for one community over the other, just leave it as it is & accept that certain things cannot be altered but just go by your own personal joy & business
Oh, for crying out loud.

I rather see actual improvements into the game than stuff like this.
If there's an addon, well...it's not as if anyone else *will* ever see your preferred pronouns utilised by NPCs, so the problem is pretty much addressed in a manner of speaking already. For RP, the profile message/carrd link can bring PCs up to speed.
Why? can we just play final FANTASY game without having to involve with IRL stuff , i think also there are more important things to fix inside the game than "Add pronouns" , I wouldnt mind , i just dont think it has priority.
Seems easy enough to do! SE doesn't even like easy to do things anymore tho!
So I wouldn't hold my breath. For anything :3
I don't think choice of pronoun across the game is feasible with the scale of development. That said, something innocuous like changing the pronoun of titles would be cool! Even as a woman, Hong Mei rather be called a "Gentleman" rather than "Gentlewoman", and such a thing seems easier to change.
Gods no. Please keep this stuff out of the game.
And this is why the JP devs don't listen to the west. Personally, I don't blame them, lol.
I'd like my pronouns to be Bunions
I'm going to identify as https://gender.fandom.com/wiki/Explorogender and make my pronouns
I̱͙̼̯̦̭̠̜n͇̖̗̱̯̮̹̙f̼̤̦͎̪̳̦̳i̻̮͕̟̮̦͉̦n̫̝̱̣̫͓̜̞i̜̼̯̟͓̭̩̘t͈̰̰̳̭͕̜̦e̳͎̬̪̥͉̣͎
I don't think it's a bad suggestion. We know there must be a trigger set somewhere for dialogue because it will change based on whether you chose male or female at character select. But as anyone who's worked with databases before will know, it may be easy to change a field manually but harder to implement code that exposes that field to changes by users. So that's one difficulty I could see. Another is that if they added anything more than they have, then you run into possible translation issues.
Someone mentioned being able to set appearance and male/female at character select separately. If they are able to do that without too much difficulty, then that may be a happy medium. Unfortunately, I think this would need to be something they could code fairly easily for the risk versus reward on using development time for it to be worth it.
This has been brought up before the answer is no because its a complete waste of resources/time, plus you're only thinking about it from an english standpoint which I understand since americans do always tend to think that them and their problems are the center of everything. I mean we have how many wars going on right now? but this is the thing we're going to get our feelings hurt about I'm sure so since it's slipped some peoples minds, allow me to once more bring it to the forefront-other languages in fact do not work exactly the same as english does. Some languages have 'gendered' tones behind many more things than just 'pronouns'. For example, Japanese and was it French? It was at least 3-4 other languages this game is translated in that they'd have a tricky time trying to navigate this and to put it bluntly it would not be worth it. At all, whatsoever. The other languages-no. and america will never be important enough to 'just do it for english then' because I know thats where one might go next. No, this is a Japanese game. They're not going to give into your personal flag waving ways. Perhaps post a game here that you know already does that so someone seeking this can go and be validated that way.
This is good bait.
No thanks. More important matters out there.
The funny thing about this is it is so easy to do, and someone in the community already did this, but it is not allowed because it would break the tos. Wonderful. I am sure this was the one that really helped the Ultimate raider clear along with chat bubbles.
I honestly real talk enjoy people not knowing my gender. I enjoy going by they. Nothing crazy, but how do the characters know I am either a girl or a boy if I dress androgynous. It was always strange to me, but I understand this is how the way the world works. It would be a simple nice change for me personally, not a super must but nice.
Edit: Also oh god did they check when I passed out during the starter city cutscene when I was seeing the battle of carteneau? Mother Miounne can not be trusted, she is also blind I suppose. She and everyone else also say something along the lines of 'you were so heavy'. I always knew lala's were swoll but my partner got a kick out of this line of dialogue.
I'm not gonna lie. If the increased patch time were to amount to "lol we added neo pronouns to FFXIV" instead of making this game sick, I'd be bothered.
I think more customization is always better, but devs who can't put in new beards without making a whole new head model or what have you definitely will not revamp 10 years of dialogue. It's MSQ AND every single other interaction. Not to mention the can of worms it'd open. Would disrespectful villains use your preferred pronoun or would they misgender you, for example? The outcry would be insane if the latter. Genuine question too, not even trying to be funny.
Non-binary subscribers to this game can only play as characters who are referred to as male or female right now, so adding “they/them” pronoun options would be nice for them and doesn’t harm anyone except bigots.
Before any ignorant people reply to me with beliefs that non-binary people apparently don’t exist, please don’t bother posting even more transphobic nonsense; I’m neither interested in reading nor responding to it.
Sure I'm identifying as a penguin on Tuesdays but on Fridays I want npc's to call me a Hawk. Such an important feature /s
Considering there are potentially an infinite amount, based on people I've talked to and interviews I've watched, where is the line? Someone is being excluded no matter what.
Also this is mostly a western thing. I don't recall too many Japanese people caring about this. And considering the monumental amount of work it would be to do something like this at this point, I don't see it happening.
Neopronouns are the blackface of lgbtq world. Do not co opt the struggle of trans people just to make yourself more unique to your boring self. F all that. Take it to that cesspool of despair known as twitter.
Im fine with they/them. I know non binary is real, but the lgbtq community need to take a stand against neopronouns and xenogender bullshit. Its co opting the struggle just to make boring fake people feel less boring while being safe from the social issues that face actual trans or queer people. Its transphobic in itself.
Needlesstosay I dont want it in the game.
I didnt read the entire thread so if thats not what you are refering too then nevermind but becaide this game is popular on twitter and thats where this crap comes from im weighing in. So many trans people ive meet that are disgusted with this neo pronouns BS.
I mentioned I was a black woman in a thread that asked for ethnic hairstyles and people-got-heated. I was told I was attempting to be ‘sassy’, referred to as ‘obnoxious’ and was told it was odd I’d be proud to be who I was. So it’s not surprising. * shrug *
As for the request. I doubt it’ll come to pass. While not an unreasonable option, It’ll require more voice work and reworking of a vast amount of text. And different countries have different levels of acceptance regarding this.
I would be happy with just the text being changed honestly. They don't need to do the voice work at least in the japanese. Most of the language if I recall is more direct besides things such as honorifics. If I am incorrect I am sorry. I am still learning a bunch with the language, but going off of most things when listening things are more direct where they usually do not say she or he directly. I do not mind being call by ~chan ~san ~kun ~sama those are all fine because besides maybe kun really can be used depending on the characters personality. At least from someone who speaks a different language natively looking onward would see. I could be wrong, but I am learning the japanese sound currently not the kanji, but even still it would be similar. It would only be the localization team or square that would just need to swap the text. It might even just be in the code and they could just add it along with what is already there.
I am also sorry people can be idiots. My partner has been wanting ethnic hairstyles, the one they would have settled for in the current options was one of the Roe hair styles with braids, but you can't have that on lalafell. There is really only one option besides the silly afro, and as amazing as it's physics are just having simple cornrows or dreads tied back is something they want the most. I honestly would mind it either. Just asking for something simple gets people in these moods, I sware. I would be very sad though if my partner stopped being sassy because of some idiot on a forum.
I do think this is a fair thing to ask for, and like you said this would be a lot of work.
I would have several questions however. Would pronoun information be publicly presented like how gender presently is on the lodestone? With the amount of people not on board with it in this thread, I think information like that should be kept private.
Additionally alongside old voiced scenes and 10 years of dialogue differences, a decision like this would have to be carried over to at the very least the German, French, and Japanese languages (China and Korea by extension but I cannot imagine pronoun support in those versions of the game). I do not know enough about the forms of gender expression in those languages for how many options could realistically be supported. For voice acting purposes, I feel 3 takes of a line for pronoun differentiation is probably the most that could be reasonably expected.
I could see custom pronouns for text only, but anything verbal I could see be alienating to anyone falling outside of he/she/they.
Considering that the game has a sizeable trans fanbase I feel like being able to customize your character's in-game pronouns rather than having them be determined by the model you use is a perfectly reasonable request, though like OP mentioned, it would take a lot of work to implement. Altering non-voiced lines would obviously be easier than altering voiced lines.
I too like to play pretend, and demand others support my unhinged ideals for the sake of feeling included.
