Problem: Achievements

Achievements really don't mean anything right now so why do people get so worked up about them? Most of the item rewards are town gear hats and no one can see your achievement points anyway. At best they will be like XBL with people shouting "look how many more useless e-peen points I have!"

There are yew branch and yew log, both needed for provision delivery for each grand company.
And you get achievement points for the provision delivery, too. With a nice ring as finished reward.

Threads like these make me believe that SE no doubt thinks by now that its NA player base is we tod ed.

This is perfectly fine, the issue is with XIV's layout. If it was more XI layout it would make a lot more sense. XIV's areas are too big with very little in it, so going out of the way to a hamlet for example made no sense (prior to defense.)

No worries, no worries! You'll have it all after playing ten hours every day for seven years! Or...not. However, I do see myself actually being employed by that time!

You're not supposed to get ALL the achievements in a month.... You're supposed to play the game, and when you happen to get an achievement after a few years of bashing beastmen and getting their meager coin, its just a bonus. You're not being expected to kill 50 zillion beastmen just for an achievement. Be reasonable yourself.

Actually, I can confirm that people do it, because I do. I want the Luminary tools, so I've been grinding my mining at nodes too low for my level.

Well obviously some people can grind for the achievement, but its not what SE is expecting from people. They want this game to last for years, and wouldn't want to have to make a bunch of easy achievements every month. The ridiculous achievements with no prizes are just meant to be landmarks. You can feel a little proud of yourself after your screen flashes and tells you how much money you've earned over all, etc. That's all its for. For the very fact that they DON'T give prizes is the best reason why people shouldn't be pissed off that they'll take forever to get. Why do people care how long it takes? Its not like they're missing out on anything in the meantime.

yeah some of them are better to work on "naturaly" though at some point like what im getting close to, you gotta grind even those types cuz your running out, but thats a RARE case

i have to point out one obvious flaw in this attempt to make a point. NOTHING CRAFTED NOR GATHERED BEFORE THEY WENT IN GAME COUNTS TOWARDS THE LUMINARY. no crafting nor gathering during the 2010-late 2011 counts towards the achievements at all. i had all 50's in crafting and gathering when they went in game and had absolutely zero credit for them. i did my gathering for my craft grinds, but when the achievements went in game there is 0 progress towards the luminary.

i wasn't saying it was wrong. i was pointing out the complete fallacy they were trying to point out as a fact. they stated if you did it yourself you would have already had them so i pointed out it was false. i've been working towards them myself. i only have 3 tools so far, but i've been slowly working my way towards them.

hmm didnt know someone said all the crafting counted, i know someone said certain leves counted(and they also said oners that didnt count did too) but didnt see the other posts

also i know for gathering alot of people completely skipped certain areas(especialy when you could gather said items in coerthas instead of one of the main 3 zones) so theyd be missing alot there too, but oh well

oh yeah i agree with you completely. i don't mind most of them. the only one i really dislike is the 100,000,000 from killing humanoids and the leve ones.

like i said i just had to correct the post from elexia about people that gathered and crafted from 2010 til now would have already had their tools once they were released. i wasn't saying they were bad just pointing out that gathers and crafts previous to the achievement itself had no progress towards them. just wanted to clarify since we are actually both on the same side on this one :P

No, the real problem here is u need all classes LV 36 Guild quests finished.
But that is broken cause the Leatherworker one is glitched and nobody is bothered to fix it.

I've already completed all the exploration achievments (Pld is incredibly useful for the ones that seem impossible to get solo.) The seals aren't unrealistic (about 35% to a Storm of seals III, and already have the supply and provisioning titles) As been previously mentioned, some of the acheivments are long-term, and not meant to be completed in a month.

Explorer achievements are fine, many of the ridiculous ones as of now will not come with time. Unless they had a new reason to do those things.

Wth the currency ones, we do have the Garlean content coming soon and they are humanoids, so maybe that will help with collecting money from mobs

I made this in concern with the achievements as of now, it seems everyone saying that it is fine say that with high hopes of them adding things into the game that make you want to do it, or help you do the achievements over time. Like with the addition of more humanoids. I concur with that, but as of now, many things are wrong. With that, SE knows things that we do not.

I kind of liked going all over the world to unlock the achievement categories...

It's a terrible carrot to get people to actually explore the world.

We will go to remote towns and nooks of the world if you give us reasons, I don't see why we need a NPC to unlock acheivment catagories. Not that I mind, but it's not really what we need in terms of "Getting players to see the world" as that can be the only reason most of these NPC's litter the hamlets and small camps.

...With Chocobo and very accessible anima availability (for flip's sakes you can gain animas by turning in materials now), I don't see how this is even an issue. This is just laziness to ask to have that removed.

I, for one, do not want to see this removed at all. It's just laziness on players part to just go out and talk to NPC, considering that many of the destinations are also destinations for quests as well.

Yeah, most of us debating are doing so with different time periods in mind. For instance, with some of these being long term goals, as of now, it looks like we'd never get them done. For instance doing the regional levee quest, I have all 50s, there isn't a point. At the same time, in the future, like others point out, there will be a new use for those levee quest thus the achievement will be great.

I'm glad a made this thread, we can kind of get where everyone is coming from.

It'll make more sense in 2.0 when the world is more interesting and we have other incentives to explore.

Also, since achievement progress is tracked even before you unlock the category, people don't have to feel rushed to spend anima unlocking them or whatever. They can just do it the next time they happen to be in the area.

I think u're seeing this in different view.

Me especially really likes explorations, and can't get enuff of it. That's what adventurer does, and big part of RPG games are adventuring. It's really too bad I have already completed all aether gate hunting. :(
If I had the chance, I would help others that have problems reaching advanced gates personally because I love doing adventuring/spelunking. :)

As for other achievements, any kinds, I didn't have much complain because like some says: it's a long-term goal. If u can finished all of it real quick, then what's the point? :p
Not that I didn't have issues with this game, like the crappy drop rate from primals (1 iffy totems in all 3 months). I just have to take this really slow.
And maybe, adding more dungeons content since we only had like 4 (toto, DH, AV, CC) not including the caverns found in each regions.

Also speaking of the "Never met a corpse I couldn't rifle" achievement...
Two words: Claustrum Novum

I also like the exploration achievement, the world is absolutely beautiful. I just wish we had more use for a lot of it.
