I don't want to start political arguments in the Fine Of Fanta Sea Four Teen forums, so I'm just gonna say that disgruntled parents have been trying to enforce overly-strict guidelines for media since forever. Before either of us were born, even.

Considering the game is rated T for Teen, why are you letting your kids watch? Why are you trying to police other people when the game is not rated for your children?
There's cursing already in the dialogue of the game, the "puff puff" scene from Dragon Quest crossover, scantily clad miqo'te dancer NPCs, double entendres aplenty involving levers, masts, and spears being polished, references to STDs, graphic death scenes, arms being chopped off, people getting stabbed, a FATE where you escort a prostitute to her buyer, an entire class's questline revolves around human trafficking, a major villain whose backstory involved being sold to a brothel after being sold to an old man by her adoptive parents, another major NPC's backstory involved getting maimed as a child by his mother, who was sexually assaulted by his father, yet "DIC" being written with markers is where you draw the line?
The whole instance you're talking about involves you murdering your way through the XIVth Garlean legion and assassinating Livia sas Junius and that's perfectly fine for your kids but "DIC" is not?
'' Omg my kid saw DIC ''.
Meanwhile, in FFXIV.

Breaking news:
People on the internet offended by the name CID because it resembles an obscenity when viewed from the opposite side. More at 11.
I can second this.
I was at a friend's birthday party 10 sum years ago and they had the song "Ass like that" playing from an iTunes list and the group of 5 year old children were dancing and shaking their butts to it and the parents were laughing and giggling like they didn't care. I wasn't about to say anything to those parents cause I'm no parent myself but I was very uncomfortable with it. I just decided to accept that everyone saw it as harmless fun.
Joke's on you, my kid can watch the intro videos of ARR and expansions all day if I let him. He's 3 though so most high energy videos with good music really get him pumped. That said, even he walks away when he sees the Stormblood's intro. I think it's too slow for him and the ending sounds like it is leading into something before it ends, lol.
I grew up during the early days of the internet, I remember when we got our hands on it I can't remember our exact age but we were very young.
My friends would just randomly show me gore videos and hardcore fetish porn...
If I was a parent a womans nipple or the word '' dic '' would be my absolute least concern.
I can't imagine worrying about that sort of stuff, it honestly comes across as the height of naivety.
If we want to actually have a bit more of an honest view of this too that isn't so superficial.
I'd be far more worried about my kid watching streamers on Twitch too, because I do think kids are actually genuinely influenced by them and look up to them and so many of them are the most toxic and immature people imaginable.
And a lot of them also specifically have kids as their target demographic.
Same with TikTok and Youtube too, there's so much content that target kids that is legit horrible for kids to consume and does influence their behaviour.
In some cases it's actually dangerous especially when we get into the '' challenges '', they're actual safety hazards.
What's obscene is being put in a party of adult role-players in there with all their lewd macros. Do you find a person that's named Dick offensive? if you do might offend them.
Report it if it's bothering you.

Logs will tell the GMs which player placed the markers.Quote:
"Offensive expression" means an expression in general that inflicts emotional distress by being offensive to another person.
It is prohibited to do this anywhere an expression can be made, such as all chat channels (including PvP Quick Chat, macros, and emotes), markers, comments, or titles. It is also a violation in cases where a player character name involves a term that could be considered offensive in any way.
As others have said, you can also remove them either by binding "Clear Waymarks" to a hotbar or by typing /waymark off
To those defending the placement of obscene phrases in game via markers or other methods - it's a nuisance behavior. Stop enabling social idiocy.
So the entire player base needs to adjust to what your kids can see in your screen?
I honestly thought this is going to be about something more serious, e.g.: you have seen some people talking obscene in chat in some of the runs, or something similar.
But I cannot feel sympathetic for the entitlement that your post carries... It is not the full player base's responsibility what your children see on your screen, it is yours...
If it offends YOU, you can report it.
However, saying "my children might see it" is just a parental fail to me.
So many questions come up. Like:
- Why do you let your kids see a game that is for teens+ audiences?
- If you need to be in the same room with your children and they are that young, why are you playing video games?
- If you don't need to pay attention to them cause there is another person in the house then why are they not with them?
- What do you exactly do when half naked catgirls/bois or bunny girls/bois run around the open areas? Or that is okay?
- What do you do when they start spamming the smexy "ah" noises in open areas? Or this is okay too?
The game is rated Teen. And in Europe it is rated 16+. As far as offensive or upsetting things go, there are far worse things than D1CBA4 markers in the game. And if your kids are in middle school or high school, odds are they are hearing far worse stuff on a daily basis in the hallways and locker rooms.
Ahem my good sir.

When I saw the thread title I thought jokingly, "oh, what, people writing DIC with markers?" but then that was actually what this is about.
I want off this ride.
This is just an age old meme from ARR. If you find it offensive, do what Jojoya said up above and then let it be if it truly is offensive towards you. Or, you can be a responsible person and just clear all the waymarks and be on your way without causing mental stress to people who may or may not just be having fun. If you ask them, perhaps they won't do it anymore. If they do, well...
I mean they're not wrong that it's technically reportable lol. Can't be doing vulgar stuff even if it's extremely minimal
on the other hand if you're actually the type of person to report this kinda stuff instead of just either turning off markers/ignoring it for the 5 seconds you'll see it, idk won't and cant cap but that's pretty sad tbh go water a plant or something
I don't really have a stake in this fight, I don't put up obscene markers unless I'm in a 4/8-stack with only my friends, just as a courtesy to the other people in the instance, but I do think it's kinda funny that both sides of this argument are technically violating ToS.
ya I don't put up markers either tbf, I just know that the times I ran Castrum and people would put it up, no one would say a word about it lmao and just wish for Cid to hurry up. it's so inconsequential that having an issue with people spelling DIC with the markers is just a personal problem at some point
Having served in the navy for 10 years...if someone thinks DIC / DICBAG is obscene...
They would have spontaneously combusted after some of the stuff I've seen and heard...and said.
Took me an unreasonably long amount of time to figure out wtf the second word was supposed to be lmao
And the first one is Cid backwards, and I almost always see it spelled out as Cid first, so I'm betting half the time it's probably not even someone being "obscene" anyway
*reads the rest of the thread*
"lol, just report them"
I said it before and i'll say it again, THANK YOU FOR THE TRUST SYSTEM, DEVS! /bow
My kids already know those words. They have watched all the 80s G and PG movies from when I was their age so they know all the good swear words and penile references. They also had the joy of watching a gremlin explode in a microwave. Stop sheltering. There isn’t a point since, you know, the world exists and isn’t some sanitized fantasyland. If they are old enough to read, they are old enough to learn a few swear words.
I truly hope this is a troll thread because it's beyond the pale to expect other people to be responsible for parenting your children for you.
Look Karen, all you gotta do is ask to speak to the manager. If you want it gone, open a ticket. GMs know who did it and will ban them, and anyone else involved, for a min of 30 days. Repeat offenders get banned for life.
