Unfortunately, while the FF14 team is really great and I think they are doing a fantastic job, Square Enix is an awful company. Look at the products they have put out over the past 10 years... FF13 had two sequels that no one wanted. FF15 was an unfinished disaster with loads of DLC that was required to understand wth was going on in the main story. FF7 remake is 15 hours of gameplay... and then there is the FF7 battle royal...
SE has been putting their focus on cash grabs for years now. I'm sure the FF14 team has no say in the addition of NFT and other micro transactions in the game. It all comes from above.
I guess it's a good thing they've made such a clear statement. Now they can F right Off with that line of thinking. Hopefully the next time anyone gets to put a question to YoshiP they ask him directly about this subject.
y'sthola booba nft soon
I do not have words to express the depths of my contempt and disgust for NFT gaming and its corporate evangelists. Keep this garbage out of our games.
It is sadly nothing surprising.
To this day i am livid how they treated Sleeping Dogs.
But for NFT stuff, again i am not surprised they are in and any moment the whole thing will fall apart. It has done nothing but damaging everything, not just environment or chips shortage.
2022 isn't even 15 hours old and this clown releases this statement. I guess as long as this NFT nonsense stays tf out of XIV, I don't really care. I mean, I was gonna try out XVI since Yoshi-P is involved, but maybe not after all. It's just really hard to stomach how tone-deaf this statement is, especially considering part of the semi-conductor shortage is because of garbage like NFTs.
Yeah. This was the last straw for me. I'm unsubbing.
I have a lot of friends who are artists and NFT basically encourages art theft too.
As long as FF14 is not embracing NFTs, the game is fine.
To continue to support FFXIV while snubbing anything that does go with them is sending a message.
NO NFTS
That's just an excuse for you people's addiction. XIV subs go directly to SE, not even back to XIV itself most of the time. That's what the mogstation is for.
You're not sending any message to SE by continuing to give money to SE.
There are a lot of good games to play, old and new. If people who are anti NFT don't have the spine or decency to actually commit they are just gonna keep being part of the very problem they want to be gone.
Crypto is a blight on the environment, at a time the world can't afford that damage.
It needs to be shunned, not embraced.
NFTs are a scam, anyone who tries to tell you otherwise is part of that scam. The only reason why Crypto is allowed to gain attention is because the government bodies of the world are preparing to create centralized, fully monitored crypto currencies just like China has done. Cash can't be traced very well but the right crypto can. All crypto but centralized crypto will be illegal one day. NFTs are the worst and should hopefully become illegal. They are only used to launder money. Square Enix shouldn't touch it or even consider it. But I guess "free money" speaks volume.
Mogstation is there to support side projects within FF14
The FF14 subscription should at least (40%) be used for the Teams surrounding FF14
The fact that they are considering NFTs is dangerous. SE is one of the last companies I'm happy to throw my money at. But-- I don't want to support it through NFTs. Disgusting.
Does this mean we will have an FFXIV token in the future?

Creepy $1,000 Doll: I sleep
NFT: Real Shit
Not saying NFTs are good either, but THIS is where we are drawing the line?
Square has been cash grabbing for years.
Crypto is a blight upon the world. It so hurtful for the economy.
You sound like someone who doesn't understand economics or basic common sense.
Do you care to expound on that statement? Are you going to explain supply-and-demand curves to me?
Uuugh NFTs.
"I own a digital token certificate that says that this piece of property on the sun is mine!"
With how much Japan as a country is prone to typhoons and storm surges. You would think Square-Enix would be more careful with climate change, at least a commitment that they won't use Proof of Work.
If NFTs bother you this much then just unsubscribe and go back to WoW. Make a statement, don't be all talk. Meanwhile I'll just enjoy the faster queues for this great game from a great company
I can't wait for this garbage bubble to explode and people lose their money.
Thankfully, I have no intention in touching NFTs or anything related to that scam. Want my money? Give me things I can actually use (like a Y'shtola mousepad, idk) or books about the lore/cookbooks, but miss me with that chocobo dung that are NFTs.
Crypto is cool, it is just a new gold rush, why hate on it so much? Leave my profits alone! I was able to pay back my student loans in 3 years with crypto.
I remember someone saying a quote once that went along the lines of this:
"If you truly wanted to live your life without using any product that was harmful to the environment in some way, you would be butt naked in a gutter drinking rain water."
the rampant fraud (which i totally agree with) has NOTHING to do with consuming energy. The fraud comes from venture capitalists and marketers drumming up hype for something they've already given themselves the majority of so they can dump when the hype reaches critical height. Has nothing to do with energy, proof of work, block chain, etc. it is just a flat out scam. 99.9% of it.
SE, has had such a success and strong expansion by Endwalker, was so disappointing to start the New Year reading this letter, seems like is a matter of time before NFT Y'stola become available for purchase, such a disappointment.
I know this. Rampant fraud, theft, Ponzi schemes, and the like, are other problems endemic to crypto in general. The evidence is overwhelming. However, there's no reason to believe that, just because SE would be involved, things would be any different for a crypto scheme operated by SE. Users would still have their wallets stolen, exposed to fraudulent side projects masquerading as relating to SE, and the like. This problem is intrinsic to crypto, and thus completely unavoidable. How is the consumer well served by the addition of crypto to gaming, then?
