According to the Mog Store, the #2 best selling item is the Shadowbringers Story Skip

I purchased story skip because I simply do not care for the story at all. It’s just not for me after I tried listening to ARR. There’s nothing wrong with players who don’t like the story to buy the story skip because after all, that’s why it’s there.

I am currently working through the story on an alt with a friend because he's new and I skipped most of the story until I got to shb and became a story convert. In the mean time my main wants to craft and gather the new areas, but I was waiting for us to get there before doing the content. I decided I couldn't wait, so I bought a Shb skip for my main so I could skip the patch content that I hadn't yet done so I wouldn't see the story before we got there. And then I did the entire EW MSQ skipping cut scenes the entire way. It was painful, but it's not because I want to skip the story, I just want to skip it right now. So not all of us buying skips are doing it because we hate story.

The average player quality in instanced content is pretty much garbage as it is so I'm not worried about it.

As an RPer with altitis. This isn't so strange to see. The RP community is pretty huge and RPers often have alts.

People create new characters on new servers sometimes. Whether it is to join friends on another server or maybe they've become victim to the congestion issue and without the ability to move servers, I would hazard that portion of people who took the hit and made a character on a server where it's not congested at their peak time.

And we have had an influx of WoW players, I don't mean that in a derogative sense but more in that a portion of the fan base is in it for the raids and endgame content like they are in WoW. This is evidenced by another thread where a WoW player was complaining about the lack of content on release versus WoW and there's hours and hours and hours of story to clear, which is content. But the comparisons were more over raids and dungeons. Whereas I argued FFXIV has a more rounded experience, but it shows the attitude is there and fair enough, people get different things out of a game, but may find it lacking if they expect what WoW gave them.


Thinking of multiple contributing factors...it feels highly plausible.
