Seems like no one cares about the lag

Square Enix - since Christmas until today 6th Jan. Are you even listening? 8PM Singapore time here. It's unplayable again. I have 10 days left on my subs, if this continues, Imma stop the game for awhile until it's fixed. No point sub more if I can't even play the 4 hours leisure time of my night after work.................what a waste of money.

Same. This starts at 10 PM Eastern and continues until roughly 1 AM every night - like literally we were mid-pull tonight and at 10 PM on the dot everyone started iceskating on my screen.

This is clearly a traffic shaping behavior NTT is engaging in on that node during west coast primetime. Square, you guys have gotta get in touch with them to get it resolved.

Bump. Same issue again tonight. Started around 9pm CST. Same node within NTT's network in San Jose.
The support ticket I have they stated that they have numerous reports of this and they are working on it. Take that as you will.

I come back here everyday, the lag is so bad.

Why are we still here? Just to suffer? Every night, I can feel my lag... And my mouse... even my keyboard... The gcd I've lost... the ogcd I've lost... won't stop hurting... It's like they're all still there. You feel it, too, don't you?

Well as far as updates are concerned.

Seems the ramp up starts 30 minutes after the usual 7:00 pm pst, but they come in very awkward intervals as my ping will return to normal for a good couple minutes and then spike back up. It's not a constant 2-3 hour all around ping spike as it was before.. so it's small marginal progress I suppose.

I had very short spikes but not a consistent one yesterday. For once in a long while, it felt good.

Tonight however... it was back but 20 minutes before the usual 7pm ramp up.

yea it's AWFUL again tonight. like the worst it's ever been

well so far I've disconnected twice from the game tonight and SE doesn't read the tickets my disconnect didn't' happen during a teleport and the email i got back said that they automatically disconnect you after 30 mins.

my complaint said nothing about that,,, so I'm starting to think they only care about the money they made and not their customer base

I am freaking lagging right freaking now, I can't have fun so I am here.

So far today, I have been disconnected 4 times today alone. This wouldn't be an issue so much, except it keeps putting me in the back of the line so I get to wait another 2 hours to get back on. This is no fun. Was doing maps last night and got disconnected right in the middle of them. Took me an hour and a half to get back on. So I listened to my FC on discord doing the treasure maps, while I watched the numbers creep down slowly. Then today, I have been dc'd 4 times today, one time firmly having me take a ticket number in the 2800s. I actually left the house and drove to the store to get some stuff, only to come back and find another server error had again knocked me out of the queue. What is going on Square?? This seems to be getting worse, not better.

same here still lagging tonight, like right now at this moment. I am on mch and i cant even weave during hypercharge. and i cant use wildfire and hypercharge together. Its UPLAYABLE.

Since it's clear that we're not going to get a legitimate response for this, let's brainstorm some workarounds.

As we've discovered in our trace routes, the culprit is a collection of NTT nodes in San Jose. Impact appears to occur under peak load that starts at roughly 9:30P EST through 1:00A EST. Performing a lookup of 204.2.229.107 tells us that NTT isn't just a hop along the way to a destination, but the actual owner of the host we're ultimately connecting to (204.2.229.107). Given this information it appears our only recourse would be to avoid that host completely.

Would we be able to use a VPN to connect to a far away location in hopes the routing takes you elsewhere? Or are we destined to connect to that host regardless of where our connection originates from?

I tried this. Configured my VPN to try routing through Seattle, LA, SF, Denver, and a bunch of other servers in cities between me and San Jose. They ALL route through the NTT nodes in SJ eventually, so they all suffer the lag. And if I try using nodes going the opposite direction, I'm lagging anyway so that's no good.

Lag was the worse it has ever been last night. Good number of times where I was "standing still" with my entire raid team for 15 seconds at a time. I'm seriously considering unsubbing at this point because savage content is the only thing I enjoy and I can't even do that anymore.

Issues always start around 9:00 CST which naturally is our raid time.

This weekend it has just become unplayable for me at random, it has completely ruined my experience in the second Savage fight.
First went fine, but then this weekend when I was planning on clearing the second one I've had a ton of problems.
Just now I again had it and had to leave a group that had clearing potential because it just suddenly decided it didn't want me to play anymore it's infuriating I feel like I've wasted almost 24 hours in total due to lag on this fight.

I am really struggling to find the commonality between us as a subset of the player base. When I talk about these issues within my static or FC (within the same datacenter), only roughly 20% of people have any idea what I am talking about.

Looking back through this thread, there doesn't seem to be anything to key on. ISPs are different, servers are different, datacenters are different, geographical location is different.

From what I know about large scale networks (admittedly not a ton from the network layer), I can only assume that whether or not you get connected to the problematic node is random based on their GLB config. This could explain why not everyone connecting to the destination host would experience it.

This really is infuriating and sucks every conceivable bit of fun out of the game. Their lack of monitoring, resolution, and communication is embarrassing and SE should be ashamed.

I tried Mudfish’s vpn free trial and that seemed to help me overall. Wasn’t 100% perfect, still a brief freeze up here/there but it was manageable (vs not being able to play at all). I had it set to auto because I don’t know a ton about technology, but it looked like it was routing me around the problem node.

Well, I can be *slightly* hopeful. But tonight was actually a normal night. Nothing of the usual spikes, but I hope it can maintain at least this week... and hopefully the following after.

I am in Sweden so I don't think I should be going through that node?

I dunno what it is but it has made me quit the game for periods of time multiple times, it just comes back all of the sudden and makes the game totally unplayable until I essentially ragequit and unsub.
No other issues in other games and when it works in FFXIV it works fine everything is very responsive.
But then the game just out of nowhere decides that it doesn't want me to play anymore...

I'm having a similar issue with EU servers I tried connecting to different servers but they all go the same route which I believe has a faulty node, I would really appreciate it if someone can pass it to technical support.

I'm having roughly the same experience. Mudfish makes things good enough. Nothing changed on my end and I've been harrassing my ISP about this, and they say they can't find a problem. So... I guess I'm stuck paying for mudfish for the foreseeable future unless Square figures out what is going on with their networking.

I live in Missouri, in the St Louis region and my ISP is Charter Spectrum. I don't know if that helps.

Affected me since 6.0.5. Not sure what they did there but I'm sure as hell am gonna stop subscribing until there's a word about it. They didn't even bother to acknowledge it in the announcement. And what's even worse is that having a free VPN software fixes your connection problem in a jiffy (TunnelBear to the rescue!). EVEN IF your IP originates from the same country. If I have to subscribe to a VPN service, I think I'd pass.

I had no lag last night either and most of tonight, but it just started now again...

And of course, the ping spike returns.. 30 minute after the usual again. We'll see how it lasts @_@;;


Edit: So today the spike happened around 7:30 pm pst.. and lasted until roughly 9:15 pm with mild jumps in between while returning to normal. Just continuing to hope that something can be done with this. Luckily, I'm able to find some leeway with it on off-raid days but during raid days becomes a little challenging at best..

Terrible lag on Lamia after 10:30PM EST or so, every night.

I have been having this issue since around the 6.01 patch both lag that lasts 10 seconds and the sudden disconnects. This phenomenon changed over the few weeks since that patch and the current one (6.05). During the first few weeks, there was a lot of lag happening more than sudden disconnects (the 90006). I used my command prompt to ping the connection on the internet and it seemed that from every random "Time out" that would appear, even if it was just only one in the span of 10 min or more, it would make the game lag drastically. I have played other online games (and mmorpgs) and I did not have any issues with having any type of lag. Then a week before 6.05 it seemed that the lag and disconnects suddenly became very rare with only having a little bit of lag once or twice in the span of 5 hours of gameplay.
But last week after the patch this problem became even worse, there is not one or over an hour without either constant lagging or sudden disconnects, I was barely able to do any savage content only grouping twice to practice the first savage raid which I ended up having numerous lags and one disconnect in one of them. In the past few days, it became so bad that I just had to stop playing because the constant disconnects which are more frequent and lagging kept happening every 30 or so minutes. This was both in instanced areas and in the overall world and cities. I have tried resetting my internet modem and checking my ethernet cable just in case, but still the same. As I mentioned that I do not have any issues with other online games.

Like other people have mentioned it seems odd that only a specific small group of people have this issue while the rest do not, even in my FC nobody mentioned this problem.

I'm getting a lot of lag spikes during the battles. Seems to happen more often during duties.

Steps i have taken.

1. Curse my new ISP, it changed around the time 6.01 was released so not sure if it's the cause
2. Flush, clear, clean all of my network data
3. Atm trying mudfish to see if issue persist incase it's some crappy node somewhere

On one hand, I'm glad im not alone in this. On the other, it sucks that there hasn't been any mention of it as a problem.
I've been getting these absolutely horrific lag spikes since 6.05, sometimes it doesn't even kick me off with a 90006 (or whatever that kick-to-start-screen code is), no it just leaves me hanging unable to do anything for upwards of 30seconds to a minute.

Its very easy to trigger the lag too- instanced content. If I go into any roulette, dungeon, trial or party finder, guaranteed I will be murdering my party though inability to heal.
I had very little issue since 6.0 came out but these last couple of weeks have been rough.

I've also for the first time ever, had the slew of dx11 error/Cannot patch files errors in the last few week aswell.
2 full re-installs of the game and firewall allowances made, it seems very 50/50 if 1) I'll manage to get into the launcher or 2) Complete any content without someone getting mad at me and making a report that I'm griefing or something because i can't respond to them getting stepped on by mobs.
