or they could you know, do what they used to do and design either tail holes or design the capes so that they either cut off above the tail into a split or off to one side like the shire and serge gambison capes

i loved the name of the sage 70 set as it fit my au ra perfectly. pity the 80 set was the same and without the name.

Or how about since SE is intent on adding tailed races, they actually acknowledge they have them and up their quality control. Remember, it's not like they are even done adding tailed races, as female hrothgar is next up. It is annoying, specifically when large amounts of new expansion gear have capes. The point is that I have to use a glam to avoid the ridiculous clipping.

You already know their stance. They haven't changed it since they chose that stance. What makes you think they'll change it now? They definitely didn't change it for Endwalker.

Have fun trying to get them to change when they've made zero inclination of desiring to and explained why they won't.

My alt has a tail and I've long accepted this and just hunt for glams that accommodate their tail.

If Tanaka was in charge we'd still have big butts and tail fitted armour.
But no this change to basically ignore tailed races was an intentional design change back in the 1.0 transition.

It's one of the biggest changes I disliked but it's all in the name of getting more gear faster.

It sucks if you really pay attention to it and let it get to you, that's fair. This is one of the many trade-offs we've had to deal with after ARR and its streamlined process for gear creation, unlike in 1.0 where they made different models to accommodate tails (and ears to a certain degree). They're unlikely to change it soon if ever, and yeah it sucks, and feel free to voice your opinion but it does you no good to get actually upset by it.

This is a fair request, just don't let it or the fact that people may not agree that it's a big deal get to you.

Wait, you said it shows the tail? When I previewed the new tome glamour as a reaper, it cut my tail off and just showed the cape.

It would be cool if capes split down the middle on Miqo'te/Au ra/Hrothgar to allow a spot for the tail to neatly fit through.

I was just complaining about this with friends regarding several of the new JSE sets, RDM and PLD in particular. The sets look great, but I can't really use them as a miqo'te with a tail clipping all through them constantly as both of them move.

Unfortunately, everything clipping straight through everything else all the time was one of the many concessions they made for the sake of efficiency back when it was first decided to remake the game for 2.0. Capes, cloaks, and robes all clip straight through mounts, sometimes looking like they've been bisected as with the horses. Tons of hairstyles clip awkwardly though a bunch of different headgear, with bangs going through crowns and collars jutting straight up through the back of long/down styles. Sometimes it's even pieces of the same set that are meant to go together, like when the first BLM JSE had the top of the staff going straight through the brim of the hat.

It's unfortunate that the caped gear looks so bad on miqo'te and au ra, but knowing how the game treats this kind of clipping everywhere else and why it was made that way in the first place means understanding that it will never really change or be fixed. It would be nice if they could have a toggle to remove capes like with a lot of headgear and "visors," but if they could make an alternate model without a cape then they could just make one with a split cape for tailed races and now we're back at the start knowing they don't care about clipping at all.

I don't mind tail clipping through capes because at least it means my tail is still there... unlike my freakin' ears. Almost every single new headgear model in Endwalker removes my ears. Yeah, I know some people dislike the ear holes or pockets, but I have no issues with them. If I wanted a smooth round head I would be a hyur. I like wearing hats, it's why I don't play viera.

The real question is why all the capes when they all look gods awful with this game's physics engine. They're all stiff as cardboard and don't act like proper capes in the first place.

My only problem is on the subject of a caped piece of gear.

I'd rather they hide the tail altogether since it doesn't quite move well with the cape piece than deal with the asset resources to address it to fit perfectly.

The bigger issue would be if the cape billowed THROUGH the tail and the fictional hole would move and not properly show. But if you have a Tail, you definitely need a hope to put the Tail through...

They cut off ears, tails, and horns, on the reaper job. They left pieces of hairband in a hair they ported to viera. I am under no illusion that they will ever do it. With SE you, apparently, need to keep your expectations low. I do, however, think that if they aren't going to actually put in the work, then at least hide it, and stop putting so many capes into the game. Like I said in the first post, and subsequent posts, design sets around it, otherwise it just looks terrible, and unprofessional.

Too true. Capes don't even look good in the first place in this game, so I wish SE would stop putting them on so many pieces of gear.

I brought this up in my first post. The quality control is all over the place. The fending, scouting + variants have the tail cut off, and other caped pieces have the tail clipping through. I know some people actually want their tail cut off (for some reason), but I am not one of those people. The tail is a defining feature of the race. If I wanted it cut off, I'd just play a hyur, or elezen, or viera.. but with viera, apparently ear clipping is such an issue, that they won't do headgear for them either.

I had forgotten I had this, but the 'Imperial' or Garlean top(s) have a cape too. You literally can't make this up.

Wouldn't it be the same for Hrotgar? Not sure how bad it is for t hem.
But 3 out of the 8 playable races have a tail. Not sure about Hrogar's popularity, but Au-Ra and Miqo'te are everywhere...

It will only get fixed when people make enough of a fuss about it.
Understanding why things are the way they are doesn't mean we need to accept the status quo. Nothing is unfixable it is all a matter of priorities, as long as a company (any company) can get away with *not* doing the work, they won't. The only way to bump things up in the priority list is to not accept mediocrity and demand better.

It's why I absolutely loathe the "spaghetti code" argument, it's most of the time used as a cop out, and yes, it may make certain things hard to fix but it still can be, assuming someone puts it at the top of the priority list. Someone created the spaghetti, someone can fix it.

Fwiw, my job, over the years, has become bringing legacy applications (spaghetti code incarnate) up-to-standards. Sometimes it's considered not worth it, but that's because cost > benefit, not because it cannot be done (and really a lot of "impossible" things can suddenly be done very quickly if the incentive is there, oddly enough)

Ugh imagining if this game had proper physics and you could see the cape move as your tail sways back and forth underneath, it would be so cute!

More capes SE? Seriously? We've recently seen the updated numbers, and tailed races are still the most played. I wonder if this new set will cut off our character's tails, or if it's just going to clip through this time? How many more caped pieces of gear are we going to get in Endwalker?

I'm on team tail toggle with capes: turn on to show the tail, turn off to hide. Though I also don't mind the clipping, accommodation for tails and ears would be appreciated as my biggest problem is that I can't even find my tail beneath the cape. They just went in for a tail amp. ;w;

I'll take what I can get, and it's not bothering me enough right now to change what I glamour. I'll just be pretending that the tail is beneath the cape, as it should be.

Could do what wow does and have the cloak floating over and around the tail.

They float outwards and don't touch the tail, but they look like they're held up by magic. Was gonna post a pic but I can't seem to find one. So I took one myself.

They're static for the most part however. They flow outwards a little while running, but not much. the tails don't move at all.

You will never get a toggle. Best get used to it. They could just modify the gear on tailed races and completely remove the cape from them, like how they alter gear between male/female sometimes.

Some of the new astronomy tomestone armors have tail armor that is actually attached to your tail and moves with it, which is a little detail I appreciate given that the armor was designed by a culture with a substantial Au Ra population.

Why do you have holes in your shirts? For your arms. Trails are just extra limbs. So just pretend there's a hole in the cape that you put your tail through.

Problem solved.

Part of me wishes there was just a button to hide tails for outfits with capes or robes. (Like the one for the meteor survivor tattoo)

Probably quite a few. Players have been asking for caped gear for years. SE has decided to provide it finally.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned yet and Im not going to read the entire thread, but:

In 2.0 the dev team was designing gear for tailed races (then only the Miqote) and shortly before the HW expansion announcement, they announced that they would no longer be designing gear for tailed races. I always enjoyed those details. At that time we also received a lot of interesting Hard Mode dungeons with their own side storylines, a job was released in a patch. It was a time that brought a lot of surprises, but I think they realized at the time that it wasn't sustainable for their team. Remember, they just worked on 2.0, a whole new MMO while working on the 1.0 patches and while working on the HW expansion back then.

In 2014, with the size of their team, that was understandable and for the most part the community let is pass with little thought. However, I do feel they do have the resources now to put in the work into the "little things" like they did.

They aren’t taking tails into consideration , they were taking it into consideration previously like 2 years ago, something or someone has changed in the design team and they aren’t doing a good job.

Kind of sick of all the gear we're not allowed to have because of tails.

Au Ra's have it bad you have the horns that clip or look bad on most head gear along with the tails.

So we shorten it in to capelets for the tailed races. Short capes!! Would be cute!

I think its more of a situational thing. For example the EW DRK AF you get at lv 89 actually has tail armor. It took me awhile to notice it at first because the armor is black as is the hair on my tail. Though admittedly the main reason I noticed it was it didn't match the curve exactly causing it to stick up at bit at that point.

Honestly the problem is capes have no physics atm, they're a fixed armor piece that SHOULD be covering the tail but the problem is it sticks right through the cape and it DOES look a little jarring.

Honestly with Mi'quote, Au'Ra and Hrothgar all having tails they should take another look, at least with the armored gear they could just replace the tail with an armored version on certain sets but even I would like them to do some improvements, some of the tailed armor doesnt look right because it's not fitting the tail's form on my own character. It basically is hanging off my tail instead of fitted to it. They should look at fixing this.

I know it's just a non-ideal paliative answer to this situation but I'd love a toggle on the chestpiece named someting like "hide appendages", so we could hide capes, buttflaps pouches and whatnot. At least it would provide something while a more laborious redesign of the 3D physics of the tails are done.

The sole reason I've joined the Viera male bandwagon is because miqo'te tails clipped everywhere not just capes.

Sadly I resolved the issue while going into a completely different one... hats. -_-

I solved that issue by turning into a race without tail, I feel free now.
