I really enjoyed it, the only few things I didn't like was the overabundance of stealth things in the first half and the hide and go seek sages. Otherwise it felt like an old school FF game. I mean we even unlocked the traditional airship at the end of the game lol. It had a lot of emotional beats in it that I thought were really well done too

I just finished a few minutes ago.
I really liked it, although I do think ShB captured my heart more. I do prefer character driven stories, which is why Elpis was probably my favorite part of the scenario. I only had a few issues, but they did really stick out and make me mega irritated.
1. The second time in Labyrinthos was shameful filler. Far worse than Amh Araeng. I found myself legitimately angry that we were dallying around, even if we had to wait for the adamantite. We could have done The Aitiascope while waiting, and come out to the adamantite arriving and the Urianger scenes.
2. Y'shtola was such a terrible character lmao. I do not think there was a single thing she did to actually help the Scions or the plot along. There was no defining moment for her - more than likely because she is a superfluous character when you have better written characters who do what she does and more (G'raha for the power and Alisaie for the sass). She had no grand speech, she is barely connected to the WoL, and her motivations are weak and unmemorable. I remember being legitimately surprised when she showed up in the Hydaelyn cutscene because I forgot she was even with us.
Even Thancred whose story was all but finished in ShB had better one-liners and emotional beats than she did.
All in all though, it was great and I'm excited to see where the future takes us! -

I have not completed the story so far. I think it is about as good as Shadowbringers.
My biggest complaint would be I feel that every zone over stays it's visit. Even if I have been enjoying the zone I am ready to move on to something else and still have about 2 -3 hours of questing to go.
I also feel like they could have mixed the formula up. The plot is we be chilling with the Scions, then some dark story telling then back to chilling with the scions then more dark story telling.
There is a total of 5 quests you will do in Endwalker as well. Go talk to some one, go to the destination, walk with X to talk to some one, walk with x to the destination, and stealth with most of these being between two hour movies. I actually feel like for most of Endwalker I was leveling from watching a movie more than actually questing. Still enjoyed it. -

I've had conflicting thoughts on the MSQ this time around.
For one, I felt so many characters went underutilized yet at the same time got token screen time. Was it amazing seeing practically *everyone* coming back for some moment or another? Sure. Heck, I squee'ed out loud seeing even little Alka Zolka pop up in the Ala Mhigo throne room before we all set off to Garlemald. Yet on the other hand, so many characters felt like they didn't get their... I don't know, due? As people mentioned, Y'shtola didn't really have any stand out moments. Thancred didn't either. Urianger at least had Bunny-bro moments. To be fair again, they all had tons in Shadowbringers, and it was the twins' turn this time around, but in the big story finale? At least a few minutes for something, other than that one dinner scene.
The pacing at the beginning to me felt very, very off. Very reminiscent of Stormblood with its bouncing back and forth, non-focused narrative. This thankfully picked up once we got to Garlemald and made the push to the Moon, and then post Zodiark with the Final Days triggering.
That though brings me to my biggest sort of... "meh"ness about this expansion. Zodiark was a total bait and switch. Sure, I'm used to this with Final Fantasy. A background evil being brought out in the final moments is par for the course, but it still felt so anti-climactic. This was what we were building up to since ARR? Even a sundered, incomplete Zodiark still should've had some kind of struggle but no, no outside help, we just curb stomp him.
Hydaelyn fight was good, I have no complaints there. The music was great, the theming was great, and generally the whole "vibe" of the fight was perfect.
Meteion was just odd to me as a final villain. I'm alright with the whole Dynamis concept, and as far as a last minute big bad addition they did the character fairly well, but I think part of me was still hoping for that Zodiark v Hydaelyn clash where Zenos and we mantle our respective primal and went at it in a slugfest.
I will say, the slow walk up to that final confrontation, the 'buff' being called Endwalker, the music playing, all the quotes from characters in our past... THAT was perfect. That brought on so many feels. I applaud that one.
I'd grade the story based on my enjoyment a 9/10. To me ShB still holds the 10/10, Heavensward was my 8/10, SB was a 6/10 and ARR the middle road 5/10. I would've preferred some things went different in this expansion but hey, you can't get everything tailored to what exactly you want.
Thought I *really* hope they drop the whole escort and stealth quests going forward. By the Twelve, no more please. No more. -

You've got some good criticisms in here. I generally liked it - I think they have a tendency to undercut emotional moments because I know it's not going to stick. But it's good - certainly some of the best storytelling in any of the MMOs I've played.

As somebody who has been following FFXIV's story since 2.0, I'm extremely disappointed. Things with years of build up being pushed aside, seemingly to make room for some of the writers' OC. What was thought of extremely complex was actually very mundane and had the lamest answers ever.

Either that, or will be completely forgotten.
The one character that saved everything was Zenos at the end. He was great and showed up at the right time to at least let me finish with a smile. Zenos should've been used way more, he has been around for years, why did we have to deal with that dumb bird's nonsense instead of Zenos? Zenos being bored is an actual better justification than birdie's. -

Personally it's positive, overall.
The whole "not just about Hydaelyn vs Zodiark, but there's -X-" kind of suspicions had been etched in my hunches since I went through post-HW MSQs. The base ShB MSQ further reinforces this from the whole story of Hydaelyn vs Zodiark in ancient times and the explanations to Astral/Umbral aspects. Zodiark themselves has no reason to oppose us, their summoning only had one purpose: forestall the Final Days. The whole Hydaelyn being unable to vanquish Zodiark was more like a farce to me and it makes me believe even more that we NEED Zodiark for a reason. It's been hinted long ago how those two aren't the only sole determining factors. What makes this less desirable was the way it's presented to me; I felt it was slightly rushed. The chores, specifically speaking: the Lopporits actually destroyed my immersion, hard.
Additionally there are few more I'd like to point:- I was hoping that our possessed WoL would do at least some damage or injure few of the scions. Instill that terror and discourse.
- Alphinaud's RP duty. Why wouldn't dev lock Dosis into our default [1] hotkey was an utter annoyance.
- During the party's excursion within the final zone, I wish the Final Days back at Etheirys would progress further. I.e. Old Sharlayan's skies starts to burn, chaos emerging all across the landscape of Aldenard, Othard, Ilsabard, etc.
- The last quest, particularly speaking about our WoL. I was really hoping it would beat hard our WoL. Wound them, physically and/or mentally. Batter, stomp, and break them hard. But still emerge victorious, albeit collapsed right before death's door. Let the Scions and their allies fear for the worst for days; make them work hard for the hero. Let our hero slumbers in peace as they traverse in the dreamworld filled with their memories/flashbacks before waking up to the worried souls. Ironically Zenos finally gets a positive impression from me in this duty.
If ShB instills angst and depression (figuratively good way) in me, EW instills determination and hope. I really cannot rate one is better than another. I do know these two expansions are still going to be on top of my list for now. -

For a big end walker of despair was a huge disappointment was basically cub cakes and unicorns with how little impact it has.

I feel like perhaps my expectations were simply too high, since Shadowbringers was probably the best video game story I've ever experienced and Endwalker looked poised to at least match it if not surpass it. I didn't dislike it, there was a lot I really loved, but I really wanted to like it a lot more than I did, especially since the common sentiment seems to be that it's the best expac ever and tops Shadowbringers easily, meaning the criticisms are gonna be seen as contrarian.
The two biggest issues with the MSQ I feel are:
A: Pacing
Endwalker is so determined to resolve absolutely every established concept and wrap up every lingering thread that it rockets through arcs and set pieces that would normally be slowly and carefully built up and then given time to breathe. The result is that massively important parts of the story are flown through in a matter of hours, which severely weakens their impact. Everything is so hurried that it begins to feel as though a conclusion is being forced by a writer instead of occurring naturally.
Zodiark and Hydaelyn are the biggest victims of this. While they might be considered small fry in the grand scope of Endwalker's story, to us they are the entire setting as we have known it for the past 10 years. To have them dealt with in such brisk, unceremonious fashion felt wrong. Confronting Zodiark should feel MORE epic than fighting Hades, not less. Let alone Hydaelyn!
Not to mention that all the new lore and concepts are introduced and resolved so quickly that there was no time to mentally integrate them into the setting. By the end, I didn't even feel like I was playing FF14 anymore. There was no way I could feel the same way for Meteion, a character introduced mere hours prior, as I did for Emet-Selch and the Ascians, a group that had been slowly built up for years. Again, it's not given time to breathe and really earn the passion of the players.
B: Cheesiness
Endwalker really goes all in on the idea of making this a finale and to that end there's a number of sections which I feel are extremely indulgent with regards to pandering to nostalgia for past expansions/characters and cheap emotional manipulation regarding characters that people love. Stuff like having Emet and Hythlodaeus show up again, both in Elpis and in Ultima Thule to give a big speech about love and hope. Having little memories of your dead friends appear to help you in the Anitiascope. Having all the Scions sacrifice themselves one by one with emotional little speeches even though we know they're going to come back.
Stuff like this feels contrived and hammy and I feel it cheapens the story overall. Compared to the subtle elegance of Shadowbringers, Endwalker is massively over-the-top and in-your-face with its themes and emotional moments, which I personally think makes them weaker. I cried twice during the story, but it was for much simpler character moments instead of anything regarding this big sweeping message of sadness and hope the story is determined to pound into you.
Honorable mention to the Loporrits, who made every part of the story they appeared in an absolute misery. I have nothing against comic relief, but the Loporrits are used excessively and at the most inappropriate times. At no point in any of the past expansion stories have I ever felt outright annoyed by a part of the story and just wished for it to be over, until I reached Bestways Burrows.
Part of me feels bad for even voicing my issues since I think it'll only just make me dislike the story more over time especially as I see more and more people who love it and praise it as perfection, and I really, really do not want to come to resent the story, because it's a great story! I want to love it as much as other people do, or at least treasure the parts I really did enjoy, and maybe over time my view will soften, but it's really hard for me to look past the flaws. -

I just hope now that this first arc chapter whatever is done, the WoL can become less WoL and more just adventurer. Maybe with some dark conversation options and reaction from party members sometimes?

Overall I think there was more good than bad. But the bad that there was was enough to drag my enjoyment of it down.
My criticisms are mostly to do with the frenetic pacing of the plot, plot holes and contrivances that came up, and being too heavy handed in trying to evoke certain tones. It seemed like they spent more time trying to elicit certain reactions from the player rather than focus on making the story more coherent and well paced.
The execution of the story into game mechanics would often end up dragging on far longer than they really needed to, to the point where I would end up being bored and irritated, just wanting to move on with the story so I could find out what would happen next because the plot had practically stopped in its tracks for a detour. The second half of Thavnair, A large portion of the return to Labyrinthos, the whole sequence of having to chase Meteion down, etc. There were too many times where I felt like the story had suddenly come to a standstill for no other reason than to try to pad out the game and waste my time. Those parts could have been condensed into much shorter portions that got the point across just as well without wasting my time.
There were also sections I just felt were bad story telling. I personally really disliked the detour of the WoL having their body temporarily stolen, it felt like a cheap trick by the writers that added nothing to the actual plot and only served to upset the player. And yeah I was upset by it, at the writers for making it happen, not at the villains like they probably hoped for. The fight at the end with Zenos was... just awful. I was expecting, hoping, for Zenos be told off yet again that he wouldn't get the satisfaction of the fight he'd been hounding us for. Nothing would have been more satisfying for me than to have Zenos break down in realization that he will never get what he wants and actually decide to do something productive with himself. Instead we're forced into a fight by the writers choosing for us what 'our' character decides to do, culminating in a fight that was bad anime levels of cringe. And he's probably not even dead so they can just trot him out again later to bother us, with zero actual resolution coming from all that nonsense.
That said, the MSQ was okay, and I enjoyed it more than I didn't. But that wasn't what I was expecting or hoping for, so I guess that's a 'yes' for being disappointed. The story felt aggressively mediocre tor me because there were just too many flaws for me to look past, which is a let down after seeing what they're capable of from Shadowbringers when it comes to storytelling. -

As far as the story overall goes, I loved it, though there were definitely some slow parts (The Mare Lamentorum portion especially). It kind of felt like the devs were trying to give us a breather between the emotionally heavy portions. -

The story started ok but as if we are not after 4.5 but before 4.4 but then was ok if fillery. Why at this point we do small chores and act like an adventurer I don't get. My issue is the supposedly end of the world only hit two zones, one of which is so desolate and hostile it probably didn't make a difference.
I quite thought that, once we boarded the ship, the sky of Old Sharlayan would turn red. But nothing, not even in other zones. The only casualties were Thavnair, which hit the hardest, and Garlemald, where I wonder if there even was much to hit.
I also was a bit disappointed, that the problem has been given once again a face. Been quite intrigued about, how they were going to wrap it up, that the world by itself is dying. With dynamis mentioned, I began to wonder if we were addressing now the population of the world directly for them to affect the degeneration. But no, here's another baddy. As someone being the initial cause, no problem, but stopping that person would be also the solution was poor. Having to combat fear itself was something I was looking forward to, not another Dr. Evil.
And the last zone: Seeing the old dragon world was great and I was wondering what else I was going to see of it. However it was only that small section reserved for the dragons. But wth was that 2nd zone. I almost fell asleep during that, and the omega-section wasn't that far from it.
Else: Everything was great! It's a pitty how the all-mighty Zodiark, the god of evil, has been chewed out that early, but I don't see how else it could've been handled.
Everything until that encounter I had the greatest fun and so glad SE went with a very dark atmosphere with that, which also reflects in the music. Soken once again outdid himself. After that, I believe Elpis gave me the biggest nerdgasm while I was giggling alongside Emet-Selch who was annoyed being spoken to every time - great fun!
