Anima was done dirty ):
I was expecting more. She is my fave Aeon from X and every game play through I got her without fail.
I did wipe to her once so I will keep that as a memory with her.

I mean... no? Anima is in the story only very briefly. It's not even a character. It has no story relevance, and its backstory is pretty much non-existent.
FFX spoiler
Anima is Seymour's mom. That's it. It's the mom of the tertiary or even the quaternary villain of the game, who himself is hardly more than a hurdle on the way to Zanarkand.
Anima definitely deserved to be a trial, and I'd say Hermes too, but when you're dealing with Zodiark and Hydaelyn as well and only have two mid-story trials to work with... what can you do?
I do wonder... 6.1 will give us Endsinger EX. What if instead of new story trials in the rest of 6.X, we instead get EX trials for Anima and Hermes?
Like a lot of people have been saying I dont see it fit as a trial solely because all slots were used for big story points.
That said a raid would fit better, but I believe they said EW raids were gonna be unique bosses instead of revisiting older or other game bosses like theyve done before.
Considering the magnitude of the current EW trials, yeah... Anima doesnt even compare sorry...
Barbariccia is also in the Tower of Zot yes? They could have added a narrative to it for the Magus Sisters wanting revenge at some later plot point considering they're her minions/protectors.
trust me, dropping the four fiends as simple dungeon bosses would have had the same (or probably worse) outcry
Primals at the start of ARR: They're an existential threat to the star.....
Primals by the start of Endwalker: "But for me it was Tuesday".
The only primals worthy of a challenge by Endwalker are the 2 eldest of primals: "Challenge Accepted"
what were they supposed to do, they could hardly give out what the trials were at fanfest, that would have been a major spoiler so they just gave us those two instead, they would have been cool trials I guess, but the trials we got were much better and far more plot relevant. It was kinda annoying in earlier expansions where trials fights were just forced into the plot just because there had to be one in there. Lakhsmi in stormblood was probably the worst offender, we had a real detour from the plot to force that primal fight in. Now anima maybe could have worked as a trial while still being worked into the plot but what we got instead was way better. Magus sisters were really not important enough to the plot to be a trial unfortunately, it would have been shoehorned in. I don't see anything wrong with them surprising us, we didn't get what we expected but we go something much better in exchange.
I'm not playing for story.
We are only going to spend a very little time on the story (1/10) and 9/10 at down/farm the boss.
developing a plot in this game is for me wasted development time, and now is a wasted development time AND good boss for make that coherent ...
Like i said new trial is bad.
280 Days played time i wait for FFX trial, have just lost hope, already stoped the game
Thanks to Yoshida for respecting the final fantasy licenses only until the 7 and s**t on other one.
It sounds to me like you play xiv only for some ffx fan service which i hate to tell you is a waste of money. You should never go into a game for the sole purpose of cameos or fan service from other games.
I'm honestly surprised they randomly threw anima in at all.
this is the FF4 themed expansion so I was just 100% expecting the main story primal fights then the four fiends for expansion primals and if they really wanted to treat us a fight against all four of them to simulate the giant of babil encounter
I Actually like this direction they are going with making anima simply passing by, cameo should not be the big part of the game, they make original final boss and it work, i rather they do that instead of relying too much on nostalgia, but thats my opinion
Still upset over this
can't be bothered to go through all the pages.., and it's likely someone had already stated this..,
But we got it like this cause of how the story went down.
It felt poetic to end the first arc of the story in this expac.
so they rushed what could of been an expansion Ala Stormblood<Including the expected Garlean Zones, and thavnair to a degree.> whilst there is faith in their storytelling higher than not.
It's possible they felt that it was either to expected, or didn't have much to it. asides expanding and going deeper into topics.
and then have to make the next expac either have a serious lack of new zones, or reuse old zones or add new zones to the same regions. [expanding on old unaccesable regions of old zones would be nice. but it isn't viable with how they story eventually leads. also defeats the points of us going for the throat/garlemald, rather than how Fan/Zen expected us to take our time in all Zones]
Had they done a "StormbloodII: Ilsabard"
we would probably had an extension and trials with those bosses, but then they'd have to have a large adjustment to the story as they had from the start. and adjustments to when we reach the moon.
A stretched out story with need to fill up the gaps.
or a condensed story down to its base contents/purest elements.
tldr:
Boils down to, do you want a game with a story that has a generally well praised story that doesn't have a need to fill gaps.
or a Fanservice expansion for only those who had a larger enjoyment of various FF games.<when the game itself like all other FFs, take from the past, and altered/changed in order to suit the story of today>
[A FF Theme park to all the Series, but with its own identity. Just like the Grandfather had stated.]
Anima in XIV is what I call a "Fan Disservice". However back with X, I also felt like Anima was specific to Seymour and should have remained exclusive to him. You have to go through quite a bit to acquire Anima as a summon, but I digress. The main point is I feel Anima was done dirty even back then. This summon is one of the most terrifying ones to date in both looks and ability. A horrific creature that embodies pain and suffering.
That last part, FFXIV kind of did right as along with using Varis' body, Anima was born from not necessarily the prayers, but the pain and suffering of the Garlean race over the course of decades, if not hundreds of years iirc. Anima without questions deserved more than being reduced to a dungeon boss. The primal's introduction though by tempering a ridiculous range through the roars and screams was absolutely fantastic, but also just kind of made the eventuality a bit more disappointing
I feel there is still a smidge of hope though, and the dev team could make Anima a surprise EX trial much like they did with Varis.
Anima's appeared in other games, unrelated to Seymour. And she definitely had a lot more visual impact in there than what we got from 14.
This is the best version of Anima imo, her Lv 2 LB from Brave Exvius.

He was the dark-element esper who represented the constellation Ophiunchus the snake-holder. He looks like a little baby snake strapped to an archway and he grows giant wings when he uses his ultimate attack, Final Eclipse. You unlock him in a secret area in the Henne Mines that you can only get to when you have at least 10 espers.
He was also in Tactics as the secret, ultimate Summoner spell that could only be learned by a Summoner was to be hit by it during a secret battle with a man named Elidibus.

Have to keep in mind the entire expansion was rushed. They wanted to cram about 3 expansions worth of story into one so Yoshida could shove it over to the side and get started on his pet idea of "new adventures". We had Zodiark and Hydaelyn, who were hyped up over years, as regular trial bosses.
Quite likely if they didn't rush it we'd have had the chance to explore all of Garlemald as several zones before it was wrecked and Anima would have been the first or second Trial at the least.
Anima should've been the first trial boss but like Stormblood Endwalker felt rushed and like they wanted way too much with not enough time for each zone etc. at all.
We are in sharlayan and all of the sudden in thavnair and then in garlemald and eorzea and on the moon and back to thavnair and into another timeline and then back to garlemald and to the edge of the universe...no time at all to actually care about any of the people we see then dying. And then the so dreaded final days last for like what some days while nothing really happens outside of thavnair, we see no destruction etc. just some people turning into monsters in a secluded area and the rest of the world has just to deal with one blasphemy each.
Like Stormblood, EW should've been two separate expansions. Not the rushed mess that it ended up to be.
